Also I was thinking of starting an e-shop that sells feathercoin t-shirts, bumper stickers, mugs, flags and other promotional things.
Let me know what you guys think :)

Your second idea fits much more into the alternate currency philosophy. The Satoshi Bitcoin protocol is a self aligning system with an early adopter bonus already built in.
What is starting to happen next is, goods and services to be paid in Feathercoins. A wider acceptance will vastly increase the value above what short term pump and dumps can do Because the more people who want it, the more scarce the coin.
There is no point attracting too many non technical people before we can properly handle it. That is a common cause of enterprise failure.
As the network is created the early adopter bonus is reduced. Then transaction fees (by group concensus of miners) will pay for the network.

I get that. But what would be the difference of placing a feathercoin stick on your car bumper and changing your fb profile pic to the ftc logo?
It is a very nice symbol and if people see it on facebook and like it then they might buy some of my feathercoin merchandise which can only be purchased with feathercoin. Thats one way to look at it, then another type of person might buy feathercoin and use it to buy mining equipment or other such things :)
