Moving forwards after UNOCS

It is a shame about UNOCS, but it is what it is…
What dosn’t break us only makes us stronger I am still mining feathercoins, I still have faith in the community to push forward to a bright future for feathercoin, strength in numbers and we have many.
Thanks so much, I had to tweet that out. Also the quote in your footer is one of my favourites of all time.
Failure is the norm especially in this space. But it’s how we choose to respond to that that really counts. I have now taken over from Justabit and my promise to all of you is that we will not make any announcements about anything until it is actually done and ready to deliver.
There is enough uncertainty in this space as it is.
-
It’s great to see people like you invest time in Feathercoin for free. Keep it up. Personally I’m too busy to spend a lot of time on FTC but will try to help any way I can.
P.S. Disappointing justabitoftime is no longer around here.
-
I never understood in the first place why we partnered with PXC and WDC.
-
Well said ChrisJ, let’s move forward and build on what we have achieved without mourning what did not work.
Thanks for being as transparent as you could, I feel a new purpose coming from the Dev team.
-
I always assumed PXC and WDC partnered with us!.
I still think reaching out to other members of the Crypto Currency community is a good idea. Don’t beat yourselves up too much…
-
Excellent decision. Now lets put this chapter behind us.
I had said earlier that this will end up killing WDC which bothered me a bit because they looked like a good community. Anyways, can not worry about others.
Now that UNOCS is dead, can we make a similar project on our own?
-
Thanks for all the support guys. I’m sure if we all pull together we’ll emerge much stronger! ;)

A step in the right direction.
In the interest of honesty: my confidence in FTC as a currency and as a software project has been incredibly shaky for the last month or two. After how bright things were looking initially, that’s something that’s disappointed me immensely, and a big reason why I basically withdrew myself from the community. I’m glad to see more transparency and openness has come about, and am incredibly thankful to chrisj for helping to facilitate this. Time will tell if things start moving in the right direction again. I am hopeful that they will.
I’ve taken lots of flak in the past for my criticisms, and I’ve given plenty of it when I’ve felt people were not being straightforward about situations or the direction of FTC, especially with regard to UNOCS. I will not apologize for that, because I have always done my best to try and push FTC and this community toward what I believe is best. We all have disagreements; there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, it’s been said that “Agitation is the atmosphere of the brains.” Although I know some people don’t trust me and likely think I’m an asshole (the latter is probably deserved, though I don’t apologize for that either :P), I hope we can move forward and turn FTC into what so many of us have hoped: a viable, strong, secure, decentralized currency unbeholden to any man.

Great, I feel much better now :)
Lets move on, we are unstoppable now! -
So whats the plan on moving forward?
Personally I am focused on the next difficulty patch to encourage more loyal miners. We are hitting 41.4% difficulty swing in one go which is too much for a lot of miners to stick around and work through. The next patch will make our adjust more fine grained still and try to prevent the effects from time warp and abuse through hash rate. I have linked in the discussion on this patch from where groll posts his latest simulations.

Tomorrow I have one of our new development members Maria coming over to my house to spend the day looking at the market site. I believe that it requires a lot of work and there are some key design solutions to be made. I will get Maria up to speed on the site code so that we can work together on it.
Maria has focus on merchant development and is working on a Feathercoin shop at the computer shop where she currently works. She will be releasing the tools she develops to the public for others to use.
I also intend to spend some more time on the website as a while as the site is not very welcoming to people who are not already fully versed in crypto currencies.
These are just the things that I am working on currently.
Phenixcoin were stealing everything Feathercoin format wise and heading on with their own ideas, even at one point having Feathercoin based domains point to their own things. Justabitoftime thought it would be a better option to engage with them and not be at odds when it wasn’t necessary.
I have no idea whathappened. I’m still waiting for my break. but far too much going on to do anythng anymore. but the email made me come back for a gander.
interesting times.

UNOCS?? what is UNOCS??
Indeed I never understood the reason for it here.
It has been said that it was a way to “pool resources”. But the problem with that statement is what if there are ongoing network attacks (including the master node for ACP), which coin do you protect?
And in a last ditch effort to save some face I can see that would have been another pitfall in this “partnership” down the road.
I sure hope this would be the LAST difficulty change. Making things more fine grained in terms adjustments/time gives a benefit to the early miners as there were more coins to be mined in a longer period of difficulty adjustment than if the adjustment was made each and every block.
This is the unspoken repercussions of making, yet another, difficulty adjustment changes.
It was YACoin actually. To be correct, one of the YACoin active supporters back in time. The whole their community wasn’t hostile to us. They are having hard times currently due to lack of development and marketing, but they’re good guys.
The decision was taken without getting the community asked in the first place, and the community’s reaction wasn’t positive in general. It was supposed to take advantage of joint projects, but those have never appeared.

Yay no more scam coin affiliation

So have to throw this out there…
“Hey… you want to buy a bridge?”
“nah… Go sell it to someone else.”

interesting story - we always need to learn.
and it was kinda strange that you make partnershit with new coins without getting some benefit from that - just made WDC and PXC accepted by more newbies and FTC got nothin.
Anyway i stick with FTC but i started to like WDC also… so at the end maybe it was not so bad.
8)thx for report and good luck with new progress - i am not so good so i will try to maintain at least some pool and promote FTC in Czech and Slovak republic.
;)
