RE: Feathercoin Map
Well big thing this week is delisting from btc-e. Which is pretty bad. But there are still plenty good things happening and to catch up on. Check out the work lizhi has been doing. Its amazing. :)
Oh well, BTC-e is highly overrated today. There is so many better options out there.
Hey svennand. Welcome back
Hey, and im not back really. Just floating about, steering clear of crypto atm.

RE: Feathercoin Map
Im quite fine thank you:)
Just checking in to see whats happening with FTC. ;D

Oh, didnt see that one.
Been pretty occupied lately (except from the occationally forum whine)

RE: A Project Manager
Regarding your point about having the idea ages ago: you don’t need to wait for permission you just set up the trello like Calem did. We did try it out before on do.com but not many people took part and I was spread too thin to be chasing people up.
To your point on me and devs not getting on: I only agreed to this because other people pushed me forward, I am more than happy to leave this for others to take on as my time is quite limited anyway.
Vizay and Calem have volunteered I don’t think anyone would object to you being part of it you have worked extremely hard for Feathercoin in the past.
Yeah, its alot better if more than one can go together and make something happen, rather than just someone running with it in an one man show.
At that point in time i didnt get any traction on it. And i didnt like Do.dom, Guess not many else did either.
Like i said, it was nothing personal. And you kinda underline my points.
Your allready spread thin as is. Which makes it an good enough reason to just say no once in a while :)
What im really curios about ATM is just what kinda resources we actually have here.
Like i said, i know Java (to some degree), but thats about it. That wont take us far.
Theres no point in coming up with ideas, creating scrums, teaming up and creating donation threads if theres actually no one that is able to do the task itself. Which seems to be the headbanging wall around here atm, alot of ideas, very few to actually be able to get it done.
And if it is done, its done by ONE person (choff bush), which then again make it take forever when one guy has to tacle an large “team” project.
-
RE: A Project Manager
svennand, can I add you to the list of resources (the team list been worked on). What can we use you for.
Kris, did you want to change your title… I’ve put you down as Merchant Development but if you can code maybe we put you down as General Development?
This team page is the first step in what I will try do. Give me a shot, and I’ll get a run down of everyone on the team, and ill put something together which will help with workload balance etc.
Im basiclly this guy:

So if you have an available position as emperor/overlord/dictator or whatever im ALL IN ;D

RE: \[Note\] Discuss : Sale 3 million FTC for Official Crowdfunding
I liked better my idea of integrating an payout to dev for each X blocks one block with an set sum is dedicated to dev adress. make it a total of 1% over the whole period.
That would leave more than enough headroom to develop the coin further.
Its also less volatile vs just forking the chain with an false million value block, which would be seen as propper manipulation.
My idea is more of an overall blockchain “fee”, where each time an payout comes, the comunity can be an part of deciding what the funds are supposed to support of project, and 100% transparancy regarding showing that those funds actually goes to those things.
If this was implemented from the getgo, no one would raise an eyebrow, but given that its an “small sum” each X block your not looking at an instadump thing. but i see it could create an small storm on chats either way.
But at least that will blow some freaking wind in the sails and let feathercoins be on peoples mouths again!
Lets make some waves in the ocean !!!

RE: A Project Manager
Im more interessted in knowing exactly what resources Feathercoin has atm.
What skillset do people have, how much can they contribute?
An burndown chart might be as professional as possible, it still doesnt help if theres no teams behind it actually putting in the hours with it.
Just look at the feathercoin market for example, that on took FOREVER, and one of the main reasons for this is that bush had to do it all himself.
Quite an large task for one man, and by the end of it he was probably so feed up he felt feathercoin scratching his tonsils

RE: A Project Manager
Wow OK this is getting pretty heavy. I agree some kind of long term strategy and direction is needed. But be careful not to overdo the processes and rules. A primary agile principal is self organising teams with the authorisation to make decisions as required.
This is not a job for most people so where people have interests and ideas that’s most likely the best thing to actually work on. If people are interested in it it will get done more quickly and more time will be spent on it.
However saying that we do need so me kind of starting point to make sure a project is properly resourced and key features are prioritised. Again agile practices can allow us to get the %80 most important features done while only doing 20% of the work. (As the last few more complex features can be less important and likely more time consuming)
Short sprints releasing functionality at regular intervals. But this has to be from the guys actually working on the stuff. This may require a product owner rather than a project manager.
A representative that knows what they require of the end product and can make decisions rather than someone managing our time. Were not children.I’d be happy to help out as this is what i do for a day job. (Developer not product owner)
Im not suggesting that it should be an papermill skyhigh for everything people wants to have done.
Im simple stating that getting an small “system” together to make it an more direct attack approach/structure both in time spent on each task, AND keeping it at an schedual would be pretty good and not to mention productive, this will also catch failing projects etc if someone gets bored or have their head under water. Then someone can scoop in an take over. This is much easier if you have an project segmented in sprints (scrum) if one branch failes/stops it doesnt slow down the whole production
Theres allready a bunch of awesome worktechnics invented out there (scrum, kanban and some others), check em out on youtube.

RE: A Project Manager
I tried to express this issue way back (right after JABOT) (check skype log, search for scrum kanban etc…), not a freaking soul would listen.
Theese kinda things is what pisses me off.
Not a single fuck was given that day i tried to get this hammered through, now all of a sudden it is now done, and we have put our “PR” guy to do the job? When and by who was this decision made.
Im sure we have someone not that occupied and that might have more management experience to get onboard on this?
Previously experience shows that Chris and Devs not necessary get along…
Btw this is nothing personal against Chris, the only reason he ends up in the crosshair every time we discuss something is cause he seems to allways be the failover guy
when stuff needs doing. Which then again makes it halfass cause you can only juggle so many balls.

RE: Myriad coin pumped 100% after releasing SMS wallet
The biggest issue as i see it is that theres alot of good ideas, but very few to actually do something about them.
If we did an raise of hand as to what skills people actually had it would look pretty bleak at some of the important departments i think (programming, graphics etc).
This kinda leave alot of the programming work in bush´s hands (and Ghostlander whom is no longer on the feathercoin team but are heading phoenixcoin). (would be nice with paid hours, suggestion 1.)
The graphics stuff is as far as i know mainly done by iawgom, he must start to get tired of all that free work (suggestion 1 :P )
As for the “cool 3D” video stuff i guess those that did the previouse ones left the ship during the JABOT time.
I for one know for the most part Java (im no expert!), but it leaves me with an understanding of buildup/functions and able to read most code with an certain degree of understanding (php,C#,Javascript,HTML and so on). I do however know very little about C+ and other native languages, which is necessary to actually understand the core “cryptocoin” code/work on it.
Dont get me wrong, some cut and paste to create an own coin i could do, after all the source is out there.
But lets be honest, without proper knowledge about handling functions and variables to avoid buffer overflow and other nasties, im better to leave it alone!
So conclusion, we get an bunch of great ideas, but some of them are pretty big projects, and without enough manpower/“skillset” their not gonna happen unless someone find som money somewhere.
Especially given the resent value of feathercoin on the exchange. You need alot of feathercoins to be invested in it enough to spend that amount of hours here.
This might as well be some of the reason why the exchange value has plummeted the last one/two weeks, people giving up?
I know a good couple of guys that have allready started to look elsewhere.
Which is one of the reasons why this whole thread took me so freakishly off topice
and i sound like an bitter | |

RE: Myriad coin pumped 100% after releasing SMS wallet
I agree with that. There’s the ‘firefox factor’, where because geeks know a product is better they push it upon their parents/friends. I don’t think we are at that stage yet. I think that sort of user-friendliness won’t come from feathercoin directly, it will come from from 3rd Party service providers once the is a market for it.
That said, there are two sides to this coin, the tech and the human (community) sides. I’d like to see more than just a technical experiment. How can we ‘the community’ best apply Feathercoin. How can the Community best organise itself. How can the Community offer a democratic process, can we do something new using the blockchain?
I think we need to bring it back to simple questions like, “how does the community make a decision” and “can that decision making process scale with the size of the community”
Thats the thing. If you have 100 people finding out what to do. its gonna be an mess to actually get something done.
Previously when something should have been done it has been an eternity of back/forth discussion. Kinda makes nothing happen and waste alot of time
Just look at previouse threads regarding ACP/Diff target/ and so on. I do agree that before fully implenting there should be an quick walkthrough/testing to make sure
that you havent completely fucked it up (like Darkcoin/microcoin and many different others did (node trouble forking all over etc))
Leave the Core stuff to the proper devs with enough insight to discuss and implement it in an professional matter.
Then let the comunity help support it by talking about it, being an third party supplier of something (games/exchanges/whateverkindofapp).
And if theres some functionally that we want developed that should be free (that the creator shouldnt take money for), maybe have a way to actually pay him (my first suggestion for example).
Also if you leave out the geek factor you can kiss byebye to the news media actually picking some of it up and enlightening new people. I have read several things about different coins in Norwegian media (both IT news, and general living magasin stuff).
Never heard anything about Feathercoin there though…

RE: Myriad coin pumped 100% after releasing SMS wallet
Dude i think you have completely gotten me wrong.
Not sure what you meant with that first sentence? :)
With the first sentence i refered to when development were to be handed to the comunity with freeforall and teams all over the wazo, the forum had like 50 different topics, everything was an mess and everone where everywhere working on different things, nothing got completed,
and those thise that got completeted got drown by the jabot/unocs scandale, not to mention the wear/tear on people to keep giving and giving (donations, spend their hours for free ++)
The problem as i see it today is that when someone get an idea, the idea and teaming happens in feathercoin, then when completion it gets announced on feathercoin with the following discussing that comes along with it.
Kinda pointless, by feathercoin for feathercoin if you get what i mean.
This is EXACTLY why myriadcoin said; we are the first to have SMS service!.
Unless they were on the feathercoin forum its really hard to miss that one post somewhere else about the feature (weekly newsletter, which everyone except feathercoiners ignore). And this is one of the things i think myriadcoin
does a better job on. Everything there happens on the bitcointalk thread/s Except from core development that isnt public for anyone. Which hence creates speculation and excitement, and helps to intrigue investors/create an focus on em.
About evolution of the coin, I honestly don’t think that a new technology of some sorts, baked into the coin, will do the trick. We see new algos each day, we see new technical stuff and protections being implemented in every new coin that pops up out there. How to differentiate from that?
And i did not talk about ALGO being the savior in shiny armor, quite the opposite. I do believe an new ALGO will do jack shit for the currency.
Im talking about actually do something different, as of now (except from the hated ACP) we are an complete clone, sprinkled with some neat accessories.
We once started up with beeing an comunity coin and all that brought with it. However i will say that the comunity aint as strong as it once was (JABOT!, UUUUNOCS).
Why not be first at something, i know no other coins that have any of those two suggestions i wrote.
Be the first coin to offer more than a cool technical thing that only miners care about. The first coin to step out of the technical shoes and turn towards a wider crowd (ease of use, availability, security) will be the new star in the biz.
Well, join the 433 other coins (33 just the last month!)
Appart from blocksize/algo/target algo/number of coins/blocktime/premine/POS,POW theres not much difference from there is there.
Easy put, Merchants and my mom doesn’t give a flying f*ck about what algo is being used or how many coins a block generate. They will however be interested if we can offer a coin that make their life easier :)
Pr today the geeks are the ones that brings this stuff to their mothers and merchants. Without them your left with the “Oxford Blue pub” and as many as ChrisJ can manage to pursvey.
Have an good coin, with good rep/development, and people will adopt it. PR will do itself, through others.

RE: Myriad coin pumped 100% after releasing SMS wallet
The philosophy of zero leader anarchy is lost without the tools of democracy. We need to lead the way with a clever way of coming about a consensus and ‘practice what we preach’ about blockchain technology.
Damnit! no philosophy!
‘practice what we preach’ about blockchain technology.
You refering to me not knowing enough about blockchain technology?
I made an suggestion, thats all. Im not saying its possible nor plausible. But its ideas i think would be real positive, if they could be done.

RE: Myriad coin pumped 100% after releasing SMS wallet
Of course there’s always a need for prioritizing tasks in the right way, if you’ve followed the discussions on the board lately you’d know that it’s being formalized how to solve this problem as we speak.
FTC have a great lot of good things around like innovation and enthusiasm. However we’re lacking the instrument to “steer the ship” at the moment.
In my experience small projects that start as a hobby for people usually end up that way. People get a great idea, start working on it and then loose interest in finishing it (or lack time), simply because it’s hard and takes time to finish something. Happy cheers from the sideline can only get a person to go so far, in the end we need to work as a team to get the important things done.
It seems like a new structure, where people take more responsibility, is actually growing at last. Let’s utilize that to it’s fullest extent and see where that takes us :)
Hmm, i seem to recall this feature in the previouse forum. Didnt go that well actually, and the whole thing got bloated.
What im trying to say is that a couple of core elements of the coin needs to be adjusted/implemented to make us stand out of from the herd, theres nothing wrong with small projects here and there
But they are not gonna make much impact on the popularity/value of the coin. Neither gonna help to get new members either.
Feathercoin needs to be brought back to the golden days when it was blooming on the chat boxes, on alt forums etc. both in positive and negative feedback.
This constant, lets not make any ripple in the water to upset the sharks is killing the coin slowly.
Im not saying people should head out and start provoking other coins/trolling on chats. But lets do something that is noticable and that other coins havent done. (for example my suggestions above)

RE: Myriad coin pumped 100% after releasing SMS wallet
Link only stores magnet links, nothing more and there is no bloat.
Good theres no bloat.
Storing Magnet links however aint that good, look at ThePiratebay in sweden.
They only stored the links. Still they in the end got convicted and had to face an 400k fine and prison time after a LONG court trial. Even though they only “hosted an gateway”.
Storing links within the blockchain would certainly make it an potentiall victim.
It also takes the control out of hands of the comunity, what if theres some magnet link to child pornography there?. Would not say that was positive for feathercoin…
