Just wanted to send out a big thank you to the FTC community… I started this process back in late November, after a lot of research on BTC and LTC, I shifted my attention to FTC. I started ordering parts in early December and although I have about 25 years experience as a video editor, my computer tech knowledge is pretty limited. The forum guides have been great, and responses from fellow miners have been spot on to make this a reality. The rig is up and running in a spare bedroom (my son is away at college) and the system has been stable with pool mining for about 36 hours now, churning away and depositing 5 FTC consistently to the wallet. I tried to explain all this to my wife, starting with the concept of BTC… but after about 10 minutes her eyes just kind of glazed over. Her main response was “how much is this costing us?” and “is this legal?” These first couple of days, I am constantly heading back there to make sure everything is still alive, temps are ok, etc., and she has now started to make fun of me as I go to check on my “babies.”

The glazing over of the eyes happens to anyone I try to explain cryptocurrency to haha lots of big words they don’t understand ::) good thing I don’t have a wife! :D

so if got catalyst 13.12 then SDK download not needed? Does it matter what version of cgminer to use?

The difference between building a solution in-house and having a solution worked on by Coinbase, likely [i]gratis[/i] in exchange for all those delicious, delicious transaction fees.

Rep for posting that with super good link. and even if CEO Patrick Byrne doesn’t own any bitcoins he will soon enough. I think this is the beginning of a hugh change. I posted a link to amgi metals who accept bitcoins now for gold and silver at super fair premiums on single coin sales. The post is titled “Who is John Galt?”

I agree but have seen some crazy stuff when a PSU is working towards its max limits. I also like to have cleaner power since the higher end UPS units have filters, not that my power is “dirty” by any means but the less stress I put on the PSU, the better since its the heart of the system. To each their own in the end.

Local wallet is relatively safe. If you often synchronized blocks, it will not take more time. When you reap the benefits, there will always pay some of the cost. feathcoin wallet is a good partner.

As for a separate monitor:
When I was running prime(number)-searching software on various PCs I would initially use an old small monitor to get things running, then install TeamViewer for remote access (even from my iPad).
As the GPU usage will probably be making screen refreshing crawl when mining, I suspect you will need to stop the miner, make any changes, then restart the miner to allow for prompt responses to mouse clicks etc.
TeamViewer is very simple to install and use but I did find it kept locking me out of a Ubuntu box.

FTC implemented ACP Which prevents us from being 51’d.

Basically a 51% attack is when some has more than 51% of the hash power of the entire network. They can then send coins out of their wallets, restore a copy of the wallet/block chain that doesn’t have that transaction and then as they have 51% of the network, other wallets start listening to the attackers ‘forked’ blockchain. They could also mine a bunch of blocks in isolation the broadcast them all at the same time therefor orphaning everyone else’s blocks.

Bottom line is, your safe with FTC. ;)

Mind if I ask why the 6950 is so low hash wise? My current rig uses a few stock 6870s netting 320Kh/s average. My 6950 was netting 430Kh/s before it was bartered to a friend that wanted to stretch his upgrade path, unlocking the card and crossfiring it with his 6990. We share the opinion it’s generally a good idea to skip generations, so he’s waiting for Vesuvius to launch. Either way, bone stock shouldn’t both the 6950 and the 6990 have higher hash rates?
