Shock and awe campaign

People who now know I’m into Bitcoin, now ask me for my opinion on the subject when they read/see it in the press. It’s scary how misinformed people are and it’s nice to see their opinion change when presented with an alternative view on the subject. We all must do this. It’s like firefox’s adoption years ago, I know my Dad still uses Firefox to this day and that’s only because I used it back then.

I agree, its funny how you end up being the person everyone talks to about crypto as soon as they know your mining or won some.
Essentially every time anything is in the press about BTC or Mt Gox or whatever family / work colleagues ask me if ive lost all my money yet (lol) as thats how its painted by some newspapers.
I think its important to set the record straight and be a source of accurate information and generally to be an advocate for the cause.
Im only one person so maybe not a true representation of the community as a whole but I have got more out than I have put in and I don’t just mean financially.
I mean morally, socially , intellectually and yes financially but its not just about that.
I’m doing my very small part every day as I’m sure you all are (most much more than me), and really this is how information spreads now, its local ,its viral and maybe we don’t need the news to be accurate as long as the subject is in the public eye we have an opportunity to start a discussion.

I’ve been working on something that might help. I’ll talk more about it when I’m done, for now I’ll just say it’s something to bring incentive…
I do have some other ideas as well after reading: https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/6609-suggestions/
As for getting FTC more accepted internationally, what about branding Feathercoin in the native language. It’s one of the few coins that works translating. (in retrospect, maybe I should of chosen a different username, it’s actually feathercoin in Norwegian)
Now, I don’t know if it sounds “right†in other languages. Can people confirm this?
An app that people can easily use to start mining is a good idea, but as mentioned in the thread I guess there’s a reason why it’s not included with the wallet.
A step by step foolproof guide to mining might be an idea. However I’m not too sure how much time or money people in general are willing to spend on something they’re uncertain about.
So what about copying a page off Ripple’s playbook? https://www.computingforgood.org/
There are many projects that work with the Boinc client, see the list.
Or folding@home (which I think is the biggest and most popular). We could create a feathercoin team (link). So for xx amount of points/work generated, xx FTC will be handed out. (I’m not too familiar with it, maybe someone else here is)
There needs to be a limit on how much FTC each team member can receive though, 'cos unlike Ripple we’d have to chip in so there’s something to hand out.
It would be an alternative give-away for those who can’t get in to mining etc. Which is better than randomly giving it away. This way people show some interest and they also contribute to something good.
Whether people like Ripple or not, we have to accept their contention (did you see the New York hearings!?). Not too many seem to be aware that Google Ventures is invested, Google who are one of the top lobbyists https://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/top.php?showYear=2013&indexType=s
http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/22/5336154/ten-tech-companies-spend-61-million-lobbying-in-2013
I’m sidetracking here, but the day will come when the debate over digital currencies is a more serious topic to the Senate.
Imagine how those hearings would go when they can claim that Ripples have been handed out to those who contributed to AIDS and Cancer research (two of the main projects on WCG). Voting against Ripple would be voting against research of two of the most sympathizing diseases out there.
Well played Ripple, well played…
Or maybe I’ve just been binging too much House of Cards lately.

The point of ftc is that we are all leaders.
“Be the change you want see” is probably a good moto.
Chris is somewhat the face of the community, but everyone else who drives their own project, is an equal leader.
If I can loosely quote chris who accurately quotes someone very old, “the only legitimate king, is one who creates more kings.”
This is our currency. Let’s make it what we have been deprived of.
If your active on the forum. You are the committee.
Thanks for a great response. By the way, our weekly newsletter, should be put that on the front page of the website to give the site a sense of freshness?

I already started to move as I know a bunch of people here who are interested in cryptos and already convinced 4 of them to mine FTCs. I even sold them some!!
Hey that’s awesome!
Your doing plenty of great thing’s, if you you want to focus on showing friends and family, that’s all ready a huge impact.
Keep it up man!

I’ve been using firefox for years now. I love it… but yeah, it’s crazy to see how misinformed people are about crypto’s. The same happens for me at work. All my work colleague’s come to me whenever they hear something about crypto’s. Sometimes they simply ask about what they think is a major flaw, but I then explain to them how that aspect actually works and generally they are left in awe or become somewhat understanding but dumbfounded.

Maybe the website should have a weekly changing area for the current newsletters quote of the week.
What I said in my previous post was just random thoughts. I probably even missed quoted chrisj!
But yeah.
Be the Change.

Some excellent feedback coming in. Lets keep the momentum up guys.

Regarding Technical Development, has adaptive N factor been looked into or considered as a replacement for ACP like what Vertcoin has done?
-
I think this info will fit well in this post so I just write it down!
Few posts above I mentioned my intention to spread FTC here in Jp. In a mail conversation where I was pushing the coin, the other guy replied me this:Regarding Feathercoin I asked about it when I met chris and he said it was more or less a dead currency?? something to do with pre-mining, I didn’t get the details.
Well, judging from what you guys are doing here, this is ALL but a dead currency. Just my 2 cents… but I think: is this the image that FTC has when seen from “the outside”? If that’s the case, this campaign is quite timely and we probably should accelerate before all the pople start to think about FTC that way.

Getting that here also and dito on firefox.

I totally agree kris, it seems to me that the banks and the big boys are supporting a lot of the negative media attention crypto has, but word of mouth is much stronger and if everyone that uses cryptos does there small part, they can never stop us.

Hey all,
Regarding media exposure. I’m a 3D Generalist (I’ve introduced myself previously on other posts). I’d like to be part of any movement but there is a small problem when saying “I’m willing to offer my skill set” and then being told “Just do something you think would be good for the community”.
There needs to be direction for people like myself to be of any real use. Without any kind of plan for content creation anything I do or anyone else for that matter may resort in an overlap with something that has been already been done. The “Calling 3D Animators” was an example of this. In addition, myself or anyone else just making stuff up may not be an effective utilization of our time, maybe our output ends up not being used or is not actually required. You see where I’m going with this :)
Someone needs to dictate (marketing team) solid, well thought out marketing material. A set of requirements, a concrete concept and clear direction as to what is wanted and how it is wanted. Then for example I can go off and make it, send it back for feedback, make alterations and by the end we end up with rock solid, relevant, new and required material that can actually be rolled out and used. Not a mismatched or random spur of the moment jumble of art work that may or may not be used atall. 3D is anything but quick. Designing, Modelling, Texturing, Rigging, Animating and Rendering can be HUGELY time consuming and thus misuse of time and no direction can lead to a complete failure with not just a few hours or a day but instead weeks worth of hard work down the toilet.
Basically someone needs to take charge and lead. Then a post can be made once a plan has been made listing exactly what is needed and when it is needed by. From there progress for FTC media exposure will really begin to start moving but without solid plans and milestones none of these great ideas will come to light, totally undermining the great talent pool and friendly community we have…IMHO.
In my job someone comes to me and says “I need this by then”, I make it happen and alot of people in my field are the same. A concept is created, a director and concept artist/s work out what they want then it gets passed on to be “physically built”. Some people can do all of the above but it is a rare thing for someone to handle both concept work and implementation and get it right… especially if you have no idea what it will be used for.
All the best! I like this thread, as it has already been said lets build up some momentum again! :D

A very valid point. I’ve mentioned this previously, that a project ‘roadmap’ would be really helpful for people who have skills but don’t know where they can get involved.

Agreed, whilst decentralised currencies are a wonderful concept, decentralised leadership is wishy washy…
