I think every country needs to add a team member, I intend to add some new members in China.
Sign me up for Japan!
Even if I think I am the only one, so: does it make sense to you guys?
BTW, already spreading the word here…

I love the ATM, I’m jealous tbh :D
But is there any way you can add a credit card reader and net access?
You know, so when you combine one of those in a town centre with https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/7206-dev-introducing-featherpay-point-of-sales-device/
I think that is the idea… but I’m not sure what UM is up to… he is quite silet lately so I’m sure he has a “bomb” hidden and he’s waiting the right timing to throw it! :)
Would there be any reason for a business not to seriously consider taking FTC as a method of payment?
The more I think about this issue the more I believe that:
price volatilty is a big deterrent when you still buy your things in fiat
innovation is not that easy to be digested by the average (typically conservative) small shop owner.
IMHO the first still remains the biggest deterrent… but I’m going OT…
Just checking that we didn’t miss any points now there is a tested version of Feathercoin 0.8.6.1 available for PublicBeta testing.
Hey wrapper,
do you still need the hashing power on the testnet?
Wow, look at that shiny box! It’s awesome!
And your devotion is incredible.
It seems like a very sensible and well documented option.
To be precise I really appreciate sentences like “realm of the regular user”; as you pointed out only the big money industries will be left mining when prices get prohibitive and that’s not good for the decentralization.
Just keep in mind that FTC is still a CPU mineable currency and it would be great if it could remain like that after the algo change. I know it utopy but…
Hi guys!
I have some spare time and decided to use it to group some old GPUs I have mining around in one small open rig with an old CPU/MoBo/RAM etc. I only have a 500 W PSU which is not going to be enough to power all the three cards, so I have two choices:
-dual PSU
-buy a bigger one
The cards are: 5870, 6850 and 7870 and together they’re going to need around 600 W more or less. I know I can make it with a 1000 W PSU but those cost a lot and I have 2x 500 lying around unused!
I found this video on youtube but there are some comments with guys reporting burning the MoBo etc.
I understand that the second PSU should only be linked to the 12 V plugs of the additional GPUs and all the MoBo related connections (risers included) should go to the first one.
But still these three are not exactly “crappy cards” I can sacrifice and would like to hear some first hand experience from people I trust.
Any advice?
Svennand, first of all let me thank you for this very detailed and informative post.
I read you “adventures” with mobo frying here on the forums so I know you have lots of first hand info and that makes this thread even more valuable.
Let’s see if I got it right. The most important thing is: if you have more than two cards, you have to use powered risers or you will fry your mobo for sure. An the reason is the power overhead sucked up from the PCIe bus. If you have the powered risers the additional power is taken from them (the molex or whatever is connected).
Am I on the right track?
Ok. So, keeping in mind that I decided to switch the 7870 for a 6970, I made some calculations:
Card – Power ----> Overhead
Gpu0 (HIS 6970) – 250 W ----> +25 W (8+6)
Gpu1 (Sapphire 6850) – 200 W ----> -25 W (8+6)
Gpu2 (Asus 5870) – 188 W ----> -37 W (8+6)
These are figures for Scrypt mining according to this page. I verified that those numbers are quite spot on.
So, looking at these calculations I should be good to go, am I right? The mobo should be capable of handling the overhead if I put the 6970 on a 16x slot. Even without the powered risers. Am I right?
If that’s not true, the card itself should burn the mobo even if used alone in the rig. BTW I will have to buy risers anyway so I will have no problem at all I think.
As for the second PSU, I just connect it and I’m ready to go. Good news!
Another thing. I am thinking of an “anti-dust” layout where the pc is “upside-down” to avoid becoming a dust ball in a week. Something like this (poor) sketch is representing. Is there any risk in this kind of arrangement (that I’ve never seen around…)?? Everything would be obviously nailed down with nuts and bolts and on the MoBo, only the CPU fan and the ram are present. I don’t see any side effect in doing this but I may be wrong.
I would like to add Merchant Map to the 0.9.3-QT
If you can do that, I think you may proceed. Just a couple of conditions: link the official Feathercoin map git repo in the sources (i.e. my git repo) and also ask to Uncle Muddy before proceeding. He was working to include this project into his environment and I think that should have the precedence. I created this with that in mind after all…
Wrapper,
thx for pointing out this issue. I’m in the middle of an intercontinental relocation (big stuff :'( !) so I’m not able to dig deeper in the vulnerability. It seems however that the stuff is only bash-related so it should not affect the Feathercoinmap which is a script that runs on bash. So I tested me remote installation of the map here (http://voingiappone.altervista.org/feathercoinmap/) and it says it is fine. The installation you tested runs therefore on a vulnerable server and you should try to update the bash binary.
And, Calem, thx for the support! Very late response though…
Yes, I had commit my position. Map had refresh :)
http://map.ftc-c.com/ have 9 point .
google maps not go into China
Wow! So I see you localized the files in chinese.
I will probably ask you for those files to merge them in the main repo so that we can have a fully localized map!
I just don’t have the time for writing the code now. Will get back to you when I’ll be free!
Thx for the effort!
This is my website http://map.ftc-c.com/
**@wrapper, **how to add a my position ? where is map-database ?
Lizhi, sorry for not relpying faster. I was out (holidays in japan) but I’m back to work from today.
To add yourself you just need to follow the tutorial I added in the updated version. In you map link, in the bottom’left panel there is a “Want to add yours?” blue link. Click there and follow the tutorial!
And meanwhile tell me if you find something awful or something I can improve. This is still beta… even if I think the animations work well and the tutorial is easy enough to follow.
Of course you can also set up your own FeathercoinMap installation! As wrapper correctly pointed out, the database relies on an external service (OSM) and therefore the map will always be up to date if you regularly run an update script for your local database. (Scripting info for a linux-based server automated update are stored in the Readme on github). You only have to clone the git repo on your server, manually run the update or have it automated with a cron job. That’s as easy as it gets!
Thank you for the interest in this project. May I ask you why in China you cannot access google maps?
I think the “F” is a really difficult character to turn into a symbol…
What about those in this page?
Of course I’m not suggesting to steal the font from there… but there are some nice styles I think. And I think they may serve as a good inspiration.
Woa… this is something I would like to show to a couple of “friends”… let’s see how do they argument.
Thx for sharing mirrax!
You maybe pleasantly surprised ;) it was designed to fit a friend of mine who refers to himself as a plus sized gentleman! So I’m sure if your over here in the UK we can sort something out for you ;)
Ohhh! That would be great! I’m a plus sized gentlemen to… so maybe I could fit or not. Dunno…
Drifting back in time was not the aim of the game, as going back and reliving the past few week would be hell
Same thing for me here… would be nice to see the future though…
Photo from a run out we did in December in it… this should clear up any confusion about my nickname for you :D
Speechless :o
Wow!!!
That’s a heck of a toy!!! ;D Wish I could try a ride once… but I seriously doubt I could even fit inside.
PS: another 8 MPH and you could drift back in time… but you surely know that, right??!
i have had a quick look, i can use a 24 CPU server for mining over night and using a calculator is looks like i would earn about $0.04 a day? that right? not heard of this coin before?
Are you talking abaout GRS?? Well, that’s a damn good coin to mine with your CPU! I was mining that some time ago. And the hashrates of GPUs are through the roof to! While keeping your card under very very low stress. Unfortunately the price has dropped and the profitability is more or less gone. They also decided not to implement the POS so I don’t know how that coin will end. I think it’s a good algo so I’m keeping my GRS!
I also have a small mining rig and I’m actually mining on wafflepool and then convert the BTC to whatever crypto in my portfolio I want to increase. I know MP are the evilest evil among the all the evil… but when you live in the country with the highest electricity costs in the world you have to ditch your sense of moderation ;D
Unfortunately CoinKing is not an option here in japan… I get tons of reject shares because of the laggy asian server.
Hope this helped!
I thought I only had 6 merchants on before, so I checked my chron job to refresh the list - which looks fine. I haven’t tested your help on the chron job yet, tho’. Bit busy, so just I’ll have to see if it finds the next Merchant, OK.
Thx for checking it out! Of course my cron job instructions are for those who cannot figure it out by themselves… but you don’t have this problem right? So you don’t need it.
My plan for this was to have it for bricks and mortar merchants, where you could go and spend your coins, the other map was to stay on the forum for members to be able to see others in their location etc…
I think this map may fit both functions. As it is written now it can only accept the FTC tag on the OSM but we could always add a new entry in the overpass field to look for the users. Somnething like FTC-user=yes. Then you’ll see the map with the ability to choose between what you want to see visualized and what you don’t need. Or we just could have two separated installations for the two different tasks! Just an idea…
I’ll try and get pen to paper with my plans over the weekend so everyone can see where I was planning on going, but RL is being a real pain in the backside at the moment :(
Don’t worry. It seems like you’re in those periods where even the 100% of your time is not enough to get the things done. We also have a lot of projects going on with FTC right now, so we may also delay this a bit, no?
Take it easy ;D
