Friends, I bring you this update to let you know about the activities taking place at Feathercoin as the last few days has seen a hive of activity. Here is what people on the forum are up to with linky goodness in case you want to get involved:
Website Redesign
@Severino has put forward some great designs which you can see here. Please PM me your Gmail account if you want to leave comments or go join the thread in Tech Development.
I cried real tears when I saw this designEarlier today I had long conversation with a friend of mine in London Pete Blatchford because I reached out to him to help with the redesign before Sev got involved. He said he would be happy to offer advice but didn’t want to get in the way of the progress we were already making as he felt Sev was on the right path but he is willing to help us with overall UX and usability with his expertise in all the latest research.
This is your chance to get involved, don’t miss it.
The plan with the site is to feature work done here by you front and centre of the website for the world to see. That includes the hardware that Lizhi is working on and Netnerd’s physical feathercoins. You could too.
Technical Development
Having spoken on the phone to @Wrapper0Feather this afternoon for quite a while after he expressed concern on the initial thread it seems that before we can go ahead and innovate there is some housekeeping that needs to be done to help attract other developers on board. These issues are not Feathercoin specific they also relate to Bitcoin and Litecoin and one of the things we are trying to achieve with Feathercoin is to build a community of activists who get involved. That’s not easy to do when the wallet is so difficult to compile. So in response to the thread @Kevlar has said that he is taking a look at the codebase. His aim is to organise it along with the development process to establishing formal practices and procedures moving forward with the development cycle. This will help us make ourselves valuable to the rest of the crypto community; will make us more appealing to other developers; and pay a technical debt all round which should help boost our popularity on the forums and the dreaded Trollbox.
While we are doing this I will help to raise awareness by doing more interviews with MadBitcoins etc which so far seem to have gone down well.
This we hope will then pave the way for the new innovation and help build the confidence we need in the market.
Growing Feathercoin’s Awareness
A few newcomers have joined us on the forum in the last few days, I mentioned some in the Newsletter however there is another person here @Remonius who has brought with him a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He has started a thread to organise the crowdfunding of a Feathercoin Awareness Campaign. He begins his thread:After my tiny emotional breakdown in the “Feathercoin Price” topic I decided that instead of whining and talking about problems I can’t fix (the whales, BTC-e being jerks, etc.) I should dedicate my time to something that I can actually do.
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you thank-you. (I typed that out, no copy paste)
This is what it’s about. Checkout EDIT 4 at the bottom of his first post lol.

That frontend is altar worthy. FANTASTIC.
It is great, isn’t it? ChrisJ and I spent an hour going over how to maximize it’s potential, and we’re pretty excited about it.
Regarding development: First priority of order is getting the code base in a place where it can be compiled by anyone. Right now all the dependencies are scattered to the winds, and getting it compiling using GCC on windows is an experience and a half. It’s no wonder people are reluctant to get into the code base: It’s HARD to do! So I’m working on a Visual Studio Solution that will address all of this. It won’t do much for linux and mac users, but at the very least building on the most common platform will be supported out of the git-box.
Beyond that, there’s much more to come. But first things first. Anyone who has any experience building a QT wallet in VS, please PM me. :)

That looks amazing!
+1 to Kevlar too for helping out with the codebase, not an easy job at all. Shame my coding pretty much stops at Bash and Arduino, else I’d help out.
-
can’t-wait-to-see, great and +1 to both of you kevlar and chris if you weren’t there will have to invent you… and i forgot sev +1

Everytime I visit this forum, which is lots, something new is happening. I just love it so much :-*, I only wish I could code like @Kevlar ;) Before getting involved with Feathercoin I only ever used forums as a source of information to help me with what ever I was tinkering about with at the time, I never posted anything before, this place puts you at ease, you guys are great. I cannot offer much in terms of coding or website redesign all I can do is keep producing my Physical coins, offer encouragement and fight FTC corner on the troll box…
Love you Guys ;D+1 Kevlar, +1 Chrisj, +1 Sev :)

Wowsers… looks amazing :) Thanks Sev for the work you are putting into this.
+1 Kevlar :) and Chris :)
@netnerd, its nice to hear that you can find a home at Feathercoin :)
-
So there’s a technical newsletter as well, yay! It’s a good summary of the main aspects happening the last days.

Yeah, that front end is really, really smooth.
I love the photography capturing that rig in the photo, too.

Great work. Could we walk through taking Feathercoin 0.8.5 up to 0.8.6 version first? Anyone can compile the Linux version in a virtualbox. I thought, we can compile the windows version at the last minute, once its done?
I assume you can Diff from the Litecoin fork point and produce a patch of Feathercoin changes? or what…

I’ll add anyone as a contributor, who wants. Any good changes can be passed to Bushstar for QA apporval.

Excellent stuff Chris. Thanks in a big way also to Kevlar and Severino’s hard work - as an investor I truly appreciate it.
Yes in a good way :P its nice to see that in just a few years of flat design by Microsoft, everything starts to flatten itself…
Android, iOS, even websites

Nice looking redesign, I had seen other graphics in the old thread and this is much more preferable and professional looking! I’d only suggest not to lock it in to much to any other particular sites/services, e.g. “Buy Feathercoins” versus the Bittylicous direct linkage so we can plan on expansion and even offer up partnership more.
Thanks!
