Feathercoin game idea

I really like this idea. Making some sort of MMO that has the potential to be popular that uses Feathercoin as its currency would be great. Problem is it takes a long time and a good amount of funding to create a good, balanced and stable game which keeps people coming back. Although if we could somehow get a well established game or game company to take up this idea…hmm.
Implementing a mining system in the game to mine coins might be nice, but also give an option for people to deposit coins instead of mining. Have some sort of subscription (in Feathercoins) per month to play the full game.

Making a MMORPG is a huge task, and there is a very good chance that it will flop.
On the other hand, we can look into the existing games and services and see if we can integrate feathercoin in there. The problem of course is why would they bother with FTCs. So we have to see what incentive we can provide. One major selling point is that the coins you can earn in-game can not only allow you to buy armours, upgrades etc but you can also go elsewhere to buy other stuff.
We should start with the small, struggling games who are finding it tough to compete with the big boys. In that way the ability for their players to spend coins outside will be an incentive to draw gamers to them.

Sounds like an excellent idea, although yeah it would take a very long time to establish and get popular, that is if it ends up being a success. However trying to get an already established game to accept feathercoin may be a much easier task.

These guys had made Minecraft which used LTC as in-game currency. Now they are making another game which uses their own coins.

Maybe some game like this is the way to go if we can get some tie-in in with developers (not the above mentioned, as they are obviously into their own coin).

great concept!
also would be cool if the game would have only feather related items or special feather related items linked to feathercoins. For instance mining is great–all coins need mining, how about hunting–hunt anything that gives feathers=feathercoins. a new skill could be feather gatherer (featherist) who could turn in for feathercoins. a feathersmith-one who would use the hunters inventory and featherists inventory to make unique feather items or converts into feathercoins.just a few more ideas to throw in :)

However, instead of tapping into the greed of the gambler I was thinking of tapping into the psyche of the average gamer.

I haven’t had much time to dedicate to this unfortunately. I did sign up at the forums and read up as much as I could. For the past few months I’ve been testing for Sega and the game was finally released, but then I decided to go ahead and release a mod I’d put on the shelf for the old THQ version of the same game. So soon I will have time to start looking into this a bit deeper, grab a copy and dive in to see what you’re describing.
The community (as you said) appears to be a lot like Feathercoins, so it would be great if the two could be brought together and may prove mutually beneficial.

Minetest has now matured and is an open source community game. I am setting up a server for a Feathercoin world. I’ll announce the IP when it’s up. Initially as a test
PM if you want to be an admin or have some “worlds”.
