[/quote]It’s not so much that the ability to do it exists that has people up in arms, it’s that there’s people representing the Bitcoin Foundation advocating it and keeping themselves arms length away from the user base and patronizing them saying they know best.

That’s unlikely to happen on a currently smaller coin since it’s continued success does hinge on user perception.

Regardless, CoinValidation is essentially a garbage service like Yelp!. It’ll eventually be discredited through the normal course of business. Just refuse to do business with anyone that advocates it regardless if you potentially have “dirty” money or not. The problem will take care of itself.

Think you had to have a credit card and if you tried the paypal option it wouldn’t take the coupon code, but his mileage may vary.

That said, some quick calculations will show that mining on DigitalOcean with that $5 server will essentially convert that $5 of credit into $0.30 worth of FTC. Which is a solid [i]meh[/i] for what I see.

Only do it if you’re just wanting to learn to know how to do it. It’s value is only going to be in the knowledge of then knowing how to do a remote, command line install.

It would be possible to put a ftc ticker in the header for the .com here? Maybe top right? Could it be set up so each user is able to set it to their own local currency?

I think that would be neat. I know its all ready on the chatbox page, but I just thought It would be kewl to have it in the header and have it customisable for registered users.

10 cents seems like a good stable position for feathercoin at the moment,
and has been around that value for quite a while this will benefit merchants who would prefer a consistent price.

IMO in near term alts will decrease, once bitcoin stabilizes alts will increase.

In the end only 1 or 2 alts will remain, right now that is LTC and IMO FTC. What I like about FTC right now is is a tremendous value, at pennies and the community appears to be alive, LTC in my opinion seems abandanoned.

If FTC community grows bigger and BTC ultimately grows a second coin can grow it new users realizing the can not achieve a full bitcoin, as long as their is a community and value it’s worth something.

Now I believe FTC has great value to gain USD in the future but right now it’s a gamble.

@Kevlar and I were talking about this the other day, I think Feathercoin is well placed to become coin number 2. Is it a gamble? Of course it is. But you can derisk your investment by taking control of the odds and being part of the process. I think the problem other coins has is that their community is basically a bunch of traders wanting to buy in cheap to sell to someone for more later. And it’s that Greater Fool thinking that I think is damaging to all alts. I don’t mind a bit of speculation but sooner or later you have to pick up a spade and do what’s right.

This is really about getting financial services out to the billions of unbanked people in the world, it’s about giving everyone control over their wealth; not about getting rich quick.

Well said, Chris. The future cannot be built on market speculations alone. Cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin are still unfamiliar to most people. There is no surprise many altcoins will not survive these hard times if their developers and supporters are weak. I hope FTC will do well and I’ll try to do as much as I can for PXC. After all, I like them both, have put and keep putting much effort into them both even though my resources are limited. FTC is very much what I want PXC to be, though every coin must have a way of its own.

But before it’s encrypted the key is stored in plain text no? Meaning there is window of opportunity. Also when it is encrypted I don’t think the original data is wiped with multi pass so it’s still on your machine somewhere.
