Shock and awe campaign
-
Hi everybody,
I have been thinking about getting FTC more exposure and getting more people to mine it. I believe that more and more people need to take notice of it and take it more seriously.
I have been working on a strategy for this and I will need all your help to make this a success. I will of course need people to volunteer for this and commit themselves to this.
Battle plans:
Stage 1: Media Exposure
We need a dedicated media team. This team needs to be comprised of individuals that either have contacts with newspapers or are in a position to spread the word themselves.
The way this will work is to first start a social media campaign. We need a few people who have a good presence in social media to spread the word about FTC. They need to stick to the core principles and ideologies of FTC. The second thing that needs to be done is we need more exposure in mainstream media. Bitcoin is getting a lot of attention in mainstream media and whether it is good or bad is irrelevant. FTC needs to get the attention it needs. The third and final thing is starting a YouTube podcast style event. This can take place once a week or once a month. The basic idea behind this is to interview people who are doing some amazing things for FTC such as netnerd making those coins or uncle_muddy working on the ATM. We need to show the community that we are not sitting idle and are constantly working at improving FTC. On a quick note I am currently on Reddit and monitoring the FTC forum there but I do need help from people who are more into Reddit and have a good presence there. Reddit is a very powerful community and they have some amazing people on there who are very skilled in software, hardware and other areas that could potentially benefit us.
End Goal: Change the current perception of FTC from a dump coin to a potential market contender.
Stage 2: Technical Development
We need a group of individual who are skilled in software and hardware or either. These individuals need to start work on the backlog of software development we have. This is key to our success as we need some innovative ideas to set us apart from other Cryptos. Currently we are presented with a few opportunities that may benefit us such as coinos and Uncle_muddys ATM but what they need is help to get the word out, some sort of backing to show that their ideas are worth the time for the community. The second thing that we are going to be working on is streamlining the development process, We cannot just rely on a few individuals to develop for us, we need to incentivize people to develop for us. I know a lot of you don’t like the idea of handing out bounties but the fact of the matter is that it gets shit done. The final thing is ACP, I have heard a lot of people claim ACP does not decentralize FTC but rather centralizes it, it is one of the most trending topics on twitter right now, if an alternative idea exists we need to give it some thought and attention otherwise we need to change peoples perception about FTC.
End goal: Have innovative ideas for software and a team to develop them and use this opportunity in collaboration with the media team to incentivize potential new miners and traders.
Stage 3: Damage control team
A team needs to be setup that can mange and address any issues that may come up. This could be for instance, we get hacked again and rather than resorting to mob mentality we can have a team that can effectively calms the community and pushes out a tweet or a small article addressing the situation. This is key to our success because we have had a few fiasco’s and fauxpas and we have not handled them that well. We cannot let the community jump to conclusions and it is in our best interest to be in contact with them and provide them any sort of information they require. More importantly this will show other communities that we are in control of the situation and are more than capable of handling such events. It sends out a good message and we may gain a few more members.
Stage 4: Developing a plan
Right now we are completely scattered on all fronts. Hardware, software, the markets and what not. We need to better organize current projects and future projects so that they are completed in a timely manner. I propose we have a calendar of sorts that plans out the month for us and guides us. This will be helpful because 1) we can manage projects easily, 2) since most of the work will be on volunteer basis, it will help in people managing their time more effectively. We also need to consolidate whatever information we have. For example, we need to create a list of exchanges that take FTC and put them in the exchanges category, then we need to have another category for open source software developed by people from communities different than ours and put that in one category. The purpose of doing this is to ensure that we are not competing with software that is already out there. This will ensure that rather than redeveloping an already existent software we can work on promoting that software.
Stage 4: Charity
A charity foundation of sorts. This is something I am still working on and I would appreciate all the feedback I can on this. I think that FTC should setup a charity foundation where people can donate some FTC and then at the end of he month we can either have a poll or just select a charity and donate them some FTC. Now I know most charities will not immediately accept FTC but as time goes by and more and more people notice our works this may work to our advantage. Like I said this is a rough idea but something that should be taken into consideration.
Stage 5: Coinfest June
A new Coinfest is being planned for June. Kevlar has expressed interest in having one in LA and Chris has talked about it but has not yet confirmed if this is a go or not. Regardless I feel that Coinfest is an excellent opportunity to both represent FTC and other cryptos. The turnout at the Coinfest I was at was impressive and the auction was an amazing event too. Someone in the London area needs to get in touch with all the groups out there and work on a plan for having Coinfest in London. People from other areas are welcome to have a Coinfest of their own but you will need to get in touch with me as I have been made the international Coordinator for Coinfest.
This is what I have planned for now. I am open to feedback and suggestions but if they are bordering on this is too hard to do or nobody will do this then I have neither the time nor the patience to deal with you, remember where there is a will there is a way. I am in contact with developers and people who are literally the future of crypto and it has been really hard for me to get them to notice FTC but I am doing all I can from my end. Some of the best Crypto start-ups and groups are within a stones throw from where I live. Half of them live in the same block I do or go to the same university I do. Right now LTC is the subject of conversation for many of these start ups as that seems to be the next big thing. They have yet to act on this and are hesitant as Bitcoin offers them a little more in terms of a community then any of the other coins out there. This is changing slowly as our presence at Coinfest was surprising to them and the last thing they expected was us to be there. i.e a coin officially presenting itself rather than someone unofficially doing it.
With all that being said, I would appreciate it if we could start work on some things and organize ourselves a bit better, it will reduce the workload and make us more efficient.

Brilliant post Motherlode.
I’m not sure where to start so I’ll just go from the top.
1. Media Exposure.
I’m working on this personally on a couple of different fronts. I have an interview for chrisj and kevlar in the works. I’m attempting to organise promotional material like the 3 video’s that are in discussion. I have a youtube channel so anything feathercoin, I repost and get my partner and brother to publicize the posts via their facebook. We are beginning to have more of presence on youtube with the excellent stuff done by Madbitcoins and also Bits Be Trippin’. I’m going to start getting musicians together for a multi-genre album. Once I have myself somewhat together, I’ll put my hand up to help maintain the Feathercoin Youtube account if that helps.
2. Technical Development
Not really my area but I’m hoping the new exposure will help weed out some talent. Talk of finding a replacement for ACP has been in the works for a bit and seems to be coming along from what I understand.
3: Damage control team
I’m attempting to do my part playing the role Dr Phil whenever I see anything arise. There’s a few others who are also doing a great job with this. Maybe a good way to get the message out when we need to send out reasurance to the wider community, we can ask Madbitcoins to assist.
4: Charity
Not my thing, so I’ll politely bow out of this one. I have a lot of trust in the team here so I feel as though I shouldn’t spread myself to thin. I am in support of it though, provided it’s done right.
4: Developing a plan (2 stage 4’s? :D)
Bushstar has seemed to cover this quite well. A calendar would be an excellent idea.
5: Coinfest June
Well outside my abilities with the exception of publisising it via my youtube account. If it’s going to happen, I’ll head up some promo video’s for our attendance of the event.
By making this post, you are doing the best possible thing for the staff to help organise themselves. I think by discussing and planning direction / projects behind the scenes within the Team Discussion section is the best way to go. Once things seem semi ready to go, they should then be announced in the appropriate section of the public side of the forum.
+1 motherlode1!

Count me in for anything in LA. My acoustic and Dalmatian are sure to bring the crowds!

that’s settled now. so I have to jump through hoops.

Great post. Anything I can do here in Dublin just let me know.

so long as you’re dressed the Feathercoin chikun you’ll be alright ;)

Bumping for more interest on this. Lets keep the momentum up on this post.

Who is our leader? Do we have one?
If we don’t, is there a committee that drives the direction of FTC?
-
The point of ftc is that we are all leaders.
“Be the change you want see” is probably a good moto.
Chris is somewhat the face of the community, but everyone else who drives their own project, is an equal leader.
If I can loosely quote chris who accurately quotes someone very old, “the only legitimate king, is one who creates more kings.”
This is our currency. Let’s make it what we have been deprived of.
If your active on the forum. You are the committee.

I’ll be glad to help out in terms of the technical aspect…

Wow! Well put Calem! Think you’re onto something here…
As for my humble part in this, I would really like to contribute to the Stage 1.
I’ll try to spread FTC in Japan as I already said elsewhere. Here they just discovered BTC thanks to the MtGox TV interview: one month ago nobody of the guys around me knew about it. As for now, Googling in Jp for FTC returns almost no result.
I already started to move as I know a bunch of people here who are interested in cryptos and already convinced 4 of them to mine FTCs. I even sold them some!!I think I cannot do more than this but hope it helps!
-
People who now know I’m into Bitcoin, now ask me for my opinion on the subject when they read/see it in the press. It’s scary how misinformed people are and it’s nice to see their opinion change when presented with an alternative view on the subject. We all must do this. It’s like firefox’s adoption years ago, I know my Dad still uses Firefox to this day and that’s only because I used it back then.
-
I agree, its funny how you end up being the person everyone talks to about crypto as soon as they know your mining or won some.
Essentially every time anything is in the press about BTC or Mt Gox or whatever family / work colleagues ask me if ive lost all my money yet (lol) as thats how its painted by some newspapers.
I think its important to set the record straight and be a source of accurate information and generally to be an advocate for the cause.
Im only one person so maybe not a true representation of the community as a whole but I have got more out than I have put in and I don’t just mean financially.
I mean morally, socially , intellectually and yes financially but its not just about that.
I’m doing my very small part every day as I’m sure you all are (most much more than me), and really this is how information spreads now, its local ,its viral and maybe we don’t need the news to be accurate as long as the subject is in the public eye we have an opportunity to start a discussion.
-
I’ve been working on something that might help. I’ll talk more about it when I’m done, for now I’ll just say it’s something to bring incentive…
I do have some other ideas as well after reading: https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/6609-suggestions/
As for getting FTC more accepted internationally, what about branding Feathercoin in the native language. It’s one of the few coins that works translating. (in retrospect, maybe I should of chosen a different username, it’s actually feathercoin in Norwegian)
Now, I don’t know if it sounds “right†in other languages. Can people confirm this?
An app that people can easily use to start mining is a good idea, but as mentioned in the thread I guess there’s a reason why it’s not included with the wallet.
A step by step foolproof guide to mining might be an idea. However I’m not too sure how much time or money people in general are willing to spend on something they’re uncertain about.
So what about copying a page off Ripple’s playbook? https://www.computingforgood.org/
There are many projects that work with the Boinc client, see the list.
Or folding@home (which I think is the biggest and most popular). We could create a feathercoin team (link). So for xx amount of points/work generated, xx FTC will be handed out. (I’m not too familiar with it, maybe someone else here is)
There needs to be a limit on how much FTC each team member can receive though, 'cos unlike Ripple we’d have to chip in so there’s something to hand out.
It would be an alternative give-away for those who can’t get in to mining etc. Which is better than randomly giving it away. This way people show some interest and they also contribute to something good.
Whether people like Ripple or not, we have to accept their contention (did you see the New York hearings!?). Not too many seem to be aware that Google Ventures is invested, Google who are one of the top lobbyists https://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/top.php?showYear=2013&indexType=s
http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/22/5336154/ten-tech-companies-spend-61-million-lobbying-in-2013
I’m sidetracking here, but the day will come when the debate over digital currencies is a more serious topic to the Senate.
Imagine how those hearings would go when they can claim that Ripples have been handed out to those who contributed to AIDS and Cancer research (two of the main projects on WCG). Voting against Ripple would be voting against research of two of the most sympathizing diseases out there.
Well played Ripple, well played…
Or maybe I’ve just been binging too much House of Cards lately.

Thanks for a great response. By the way, our weekly newsletter, should be put that on the front page of the website to give the site a sense of freshness?

Hey that’s awesome!
Your doing plenty of great thing’s, if you you want to focus on showing friends and family, that’s all ready a huge impact.
Keep it up man!

I’ve been using firefox for years now. I love it… but yeah, it’s crazy to see how misinformed people are about crypto’s. The same happens for me at work. All my work colleague’s come to me whenever they hear something about crypto’s. Sometimes they simply ask about what they think is a major flaw, but I then explain to them how that aspect actually works and generally they are left in awe or become somewhat understanding but dumbfounded.
Thanks for a great response. By the way, our weekly newsletter, should be put that on the front page of the website to give the site a sense of freshness?
Maybe the website should have a weekly changing area for the current newsletters quote of the week.
What I said in my previous post was just random thoughts. I probably even missed quoted chrisj!
But yeah.
Be the Change.

Some excellent feedback coming in. Lets keep the momentum up guys.
-
Regarding Technical Development, has adaptive N factor been looked into or considered as a replacement for ACP like what Vertcoin has done?
-
I think this info will fit well in this post so I just write it down!
Few posts above I mentioned my intention to spread FTC here in Jp. In a mail conversation where I was pushing the coin, the other guy replied me this:Regarding Feathercoin I asked about it when I met chris and he said it was more or less a dead currency?? something to do with pre-mining, I didn’t get the details.
Well, judging from what you guys are doing here, this is ALL but a dead currency. Just my 2 cents… but I think: is this the image that FTC has when seen from “the outside”? If that’s the case, this campaign is quite timely and we probably should accelerate before all the pople start to think about FTC that way.

Getting that here also and dito on firefox.

I totally agree kris, it seems to me that the banks and the big boys are supporting a lot of the negative media attention crypto has, but word of mouth is much stronger and if everyone that uses cryptos does there small part, they can never stop us.
