FTC on eBay

Was just looking around at best ways to buy FTC in usd.
Think there’s anything wrong with buying feather coin off eBay using PayPal?
Risks seem minimal If you buy from an eBay user with 100% positive feedback?
I was jw what everyone thought?
Yeah its fairly safe but very over priced! I just saw £100 for 100 ftc, no thanks! :P

I’ve sold a fair amount that way from an early buy I made through btce when it was around .09-.11 each. The seller is always at risk. I have $400 sitting in PayPals review process currently due to a questionable buyer. I even called PayPal first before sending the buyer any coins.
I agree with the others, buy/sell through the marketplace.

This happens ALL THE TIME. No, 100% feedback doesn’t mean anything, Verified Paypal user doesn’t mean anything… there’s NO way to protect yourself with Paypal. You will get your money yanked back from you sooner or later.
Use an exchange. They don’t have a history of ripping people off. Paypal does.
Doing crypto through paypal is super dangerous because of chargebacks. Even though you’re the one buying, it’s probably best to not encourage people to continue the process. What you could do which is just about foolproof is for you to list cash with a tracking number or a money order on the feathercoin marketplace.
That way the feathercoin goes into an escrow and you can get confirmation that the money was claimed in order to release the escrow into your wallet.
+1 rep, Using the marketplace is leaps and bounds better for the community and the buyer/seller than Paypal/Ebay. -
I think a lot of eBay sellers employ damage limitation - limiting how many people can purchase, and at what frequency. You gotta assume the majority of people who buy cryptos off eBay/ with paypal are legit. I sold a few BTC a while ago and lost a bit on chargeback, but the greatly inflated prices means you can usualy make a profit. Although you are asking for a buyers point of view, so yeah the marketplace is good, also trading from other exchanges. Depends if you’re looking to make decent profit or not, or just use as a currency.

I personally prefer to gamble all my ftc away until theres nothing left ::)
-
I just want to point out that the eBay sellers of FTC are the only reason I was able to obtain FTC in USA with paypal . . . and, though I understand the risk to sellers of charge back, they are getting 2-4x exchange rates for these coins and the majority of people are honest and will not charge back.
I was able to encourage 7 people to: download the client, create a wallet, encrypt the wallet, receive 2ftc from me, send 1 ftc back to me, and backup the wallet to a USB drive with just 10ftc coins, purchased on eBay! Everything has two sides, choosing the right side is what is important!peace,
How is this a good answer? the OP asked about BUYING FTC off eBay and got a string of answers about selling. They are not the same thing. Here’s a good answer:
It’s usually OK to buy FTC of eBay since PayPal will always rule in your favour in any dispute, the only downside is the premium you pay. -
I don’t buy this logic. A buyer asked a question about buying. Crypto sellers who sell on ebay are well aware of the associated risks and choose to sell anyway. Actually ANY seller of any item on ebay takes a similar risk since PayPal finds in favour of the buyer in basically any circumstance. Wouldn’t it be better for the long run if those ebay sellers who decide to take the risk keep selling while lobbying paypal to change its rules to accept crypto and the blockchain as proof of exchange. Then PayPal might realize it too can take a cut of crypto money instead of fighting against it. But regardless, maybe people should just answer the OPs question rather than proselytize, surely it’s not our job to play nanny to ebay sellers. Additionally, buyers are using ebay because it is a quick and easy way to buy crypto with fiat, if an alternative existed people would be using it instead.

I don’t buy this logic.
And some people think the universe was created in 7 days, or that reptilians run our governments, that North Dakota exists or that it’s erotic to sit on a cake and fart on it.
You don’t have to buy it and I’m not selling you either direction on it. If you’re contributing to a system that’s dangerous for half the people involved you’re creating demand and possibly sucking in people other than the veterans who charge more to mitigate risk.
Paypal and eBay aren’t the end all, be all. They’re a business. Most importantly, they’re a business threatened by this method of exchange. Paypal getting it’s cut is BIG MONEY and crypto jeopardizes that. They know it, they’re not going to bend to it, there’s no sense in assuming the position begging them to do something that challenges their long term goals.
Eff 'em.
If eBay had an escrow, you’d have an argument. They don’t and won’t. So instead of jumping all over everybody because, as it’s pretty apparent now, we’re jeopardizing how you’re making money at an abnormally high percentage by simply laying the options out there and parroting the wisdom of anyone burnt by an eBay transaction in the past year–
nah I got nothin’. Continue your way.

Buyer protection is a GREAT feature of Paypal, as it protects the consumer, and I for one don’t want it changed. I sleep very soundly knowing that my online purchases through Paypay are protected against fraud, and if the seller rips me off I can get my money back. The blockchain isn’t proof of exchange EVER, it’s simply proof of transaction. Addresses cannot be irrevocably linked to people. You can demonstrate that a transaction was made, but can you then prove that I control the private key?
If paypal were to change it’s policy on this, fraud would become even more rampant, because as a seller, I’d just send the coins to myself, and use that transaction as proof. As a buyer, I can still insist that I don’t have the coins, and there’s nothing you can do to prove otherwise. You’ve solved nothing with this suggestion, and potentially opened up more holes.
No. This is a non-solution. Paypal is inherently insecure, and no monkey patching of policies will change that fact.
Plenty of alternatives exist, and don’t carry the same risk as Paypal. Coinbase.com. crypto-trade.com. btc-e.com. bittylicious.com. Virwox.com. Localbitcoins.com. cryptsy.com. bter.com. People do use it, and we endorse it because it’s a viable alternative to the incredibly stupid risk that Paypal entails.
I’m sorry you don’t understand to the logic in encouraging people to NOT perpetuate a broken system that rips people off all the time, and encouraging them to use systems which have established reputations. Perhaps you have an ulterior motive?

And some people think the universe was created in 7 days,
Well, I suppose if you take a lot of liberties with the definition of the word “Day” to mean something other than a single rotation of the Earth around the Sun…

Have you ever seen a more vile creature than a politician? You’d be insulting reptiles.
that North Dakota exists
Umm… ok you got me scratching my head on that one. I never did well in geography class, but Wikipedia assures me it is the 19th largest state.

or that it’s erotic to sit on a cake and fart on it.
I… I don’t even…
Nope. I can’t do this with your right now.
…
Wait, you know what? Actually I can. Cake farting? Is that really a thing? I mean I understand Rule 34 and all, but I figured it was a bit of a joke, right? No one would actually…
No I changed my mind. I can’t do this after all. Forget I said anything.

You are going to far beyond anything to do with the OPs post. He asked is it OK to buy from eBay. The answer is YES. Selling is the seller’s business. When you buy a burger from McDonalds do you phone up Ronald to make sure he is getting a good deal or do you make sure you are the one getting a good deal? Trying to expect a buyer to base his decisions on a seller’s position is contrary to the entire concept of trade, and trying to control the medium of trade is protectionism which is contrary to the entire concept of crypto. Both parties are adult and sentient, there is no issue here, if they want to engage in this transaction and if one of them get’s burned it’s their lookout.
Sure it sucks the way paypal treats sellers, I’ve been on the wrong end of it myself. So Sellers: don’t sell on eBay if you have any sense and want to keep your Paypal account. But buyers go right ahead, buy to your hearts content.

I doubt it’s the ‘worst idea ever’ but fine. It really wasn’t a well thought out solution it took all of 2 milliseconds to think of it, probably if I sat down for 5 mins I could come up with a better one. The point is paypal and its like will have to adapt or die and they have a ton of money to throw at adapting. There will be some shift towards crypto from the mainstream in one form or another, the old establishment won’t just ‘go away’.
Plenty of alternatives exist, and don’t carry the same risk as Paypal. Coinbase.com. crypto-trade.com. btc-e.com. bittylicious.com. Virwox.com. Localbitcoins.com. cryptsy.com. bter.com. You are clearly struggling with the idea that the OP is a buyer and not a seller. Paypal entails very little risk to a buyer. The alternatives you give are not alternatives to Paypal and are far riskier for the buyer, half of them are shady offshore setups and we all know it. btc-e.com lol, yeah I’m sure the BUYER here is going to blown away by BTCe’s handling of fiat compared with paypal, Lulz
I’m sorry you don’t understand to the logic in encouraging people to NOT perpetuate a broken system that rips people off all the time, and encouraging them to use systems which have established reputations.
Dude seriously, you are questioning my grip on reality? In what way do the exchanges you listed have established reputations versus PayPal, most of them have only operated a few years at best, and PayPal doesn’t rip people off all the time, sure it’s establishment and a pain for the seller but it’s far more trustworthy than any crypto exchange like it or loathe it.
Perhaps you have an ulterior motive?
This is where you seriously backflip over the shark. But um yeh sure dude you got me, I worked for paypal this whole time, what a charlatan eh. I replied to this topic specifically to encourage the entire FTC community to ditch FTC and start using Paypal. Oh wait…I bet 80 per cent of them use paypal already eh including yourself. Gee what a waste of good industrial espionage money.
I can see you are daddy big potatoes around here and don’t like anyone disagreeing with you and stuff, so yeh, i’ll bow out of this thread and let you have the last word. You have pressure. I have pressure.I give. I give to you boss.

Wow lots of different opinions I see!
Thanks for the help and suggestions.
I think FTC is one of the better cryptos, and the support on the forum shows.
I have been “shopping” for which crypto to buy in on (only considering scrypt) and FTC is the clear winner.
My miner build is coming soon! I Thanks again!Ps please no E-thugs we all have opinions…

I thought I would let you know how’t went,
it was a little iffy at first but after the ice was broken
went very well, asked for his telephone number and address, wasn’t really necessary, because of the 500 positive feedbacks/sales.
My experience with eBay and all the other trading sites, has also been excellent, dealing with
them for years, bought and sold 100’s of items if not thousand’s at one stage sending money through the post,
stopped that after two registered letters weren’t received.
Basically, when your are trading person to person respect is of the upmost importance and be patient,
be very polite (if you lose it you just might) and keep it together, persevere
A trade on eBay can take up to 14 days (someone is sick, goes on holiday etc) you are dealing with people.
So for me the coin audience might be a little different (mostly young, intelligent, male) the same values apply.
