Just a note, you can always use an (additional) separate power supply for the GPU card. Cross 13 / 14 to keep it on.

Using a “GPU external power”, means a low specification board and PSU can be used for a mining PC.

A low power “used” PSU, just to power the GPU. I extracted a few from some old PCs from Freecycle… Neoscrypt can not drain the GPU melting currents of high Intensity possible with Scrypt, because of the memory requirement, so even a old 350 Watt worked fine.

Use a power plug / hall effect clamp (from power company), to accurately assess how much the PC and GPU power are taking.

Your earning seemed OK for the time mining, you loose stratum changing pools though.

I had trouble with failing back (on one of my miners), it may be a bug / incompatibility to the particular driver.

… which is why I went to my own local p2pool, which is a buffer to connection issues. Local p2pool has been rock stable, no failovers since.

The p2pool nodes are operated by different forum members. They all build one virtual pool that works on the same block and shares the payouts. You can setup one pool node as primary and another one as secondary, and if yoir moner needs to switch, you keep your payouts

You have to decide that for yourself. Ive been considering building more rigs once the new AMD GPU comes out but I have not decided for sure yet.
This is all a gamble and the best advice I can give is only gamble with money you can afford to lose.

More than one thing affects hashrate, as you may know. Hate to preface with this, but —OS and version/distro of the OS (particularly Windows 7/8/10 due to WDDM slowdowns, 10 being the worst), miner fork, bitness (32bit versions usually slightly outperform 64bit), dependencies (such as CUDA 6.5/7/7.5/8), and card brand (e.g. clock/mem base and boost etc.) all play parts in success or mediocrity.

nsgminer is good, sometimes it’s best to leave out the tuning flags and let it choose the best on its own. Try other miners too, like djm43’s fork of ccminer (https://github.com/djm34/ccminer-sp-neoscrypt/releases) and make sure you have the corresponding CUDA installed where necessary (some miners have static libs so the CUDA toolkit install isn’t necessary).

I’d think the titanX is capable of something like 800-900KH based on 980ti’s having the same GM200 architecture.

@wrapper 1000 cores @ 0.7W while at ~1.78GHz is very cool, though it may be a challenge to supply all of them with enough memory bandwidth.

HD 6950 - 80 kHash/s
HD 7950 - 380 kHash/s

I’d estimate HD 7870 at around 200k, but I could be completely wrong. I was considering buying one myself just to find out.

Interesting to read how you get on, neoscrypt was developed to “allow” more distributed mining (by using consumer scale components).

Although it’s still a complex job setting up mining, it’s quite satisfying when you get it all running. Don’t do what I did and get “cocky”, turn up the intensity too much and end up bricking your gpu! :)

I see Ghostlander did an update to NSGminer, making it more efficient.

I noticed an increase of orphans last night (europe9), too.
Orphans are part of the protocol and p2pool create orphans as part of the work distribution, as orphan shares are counted also. Orphan shares do not mean oprhan blocks.

I think the percentage of orphan shares increase, when larger changes in the p2pool clout happen, e.g new pool nodes join the cloud or two clouds merge together.
So we should wait several hours and see, if the orphan rate goes back to normal.

Also if one cloud node has many miners connected and therefore has a high hash rate, the number of orphans increase on low hash rate p2pool nodes, as these nodes can’t produce shares fast enough to get them accepted by the p2pool cloud.

The last reason for orphans is a large network delay for one p2pool node.

The 1000W PSU was the most expensive part but you gotta power on the beast right? Now I have a question about power supply, how would you measure the amount of power you need for all your components, I’m pretty sure with the 5 gpus I already bought a 1000W power supply is probably not enough? Should I look for the power consumption in all my components specs and add them up?

I also followed bluebox advice and bought Arctic thermal paste. I can’t wait to put everything together!
