Undervolting is awesome.
It took my 4 x Sapphire 280x’s from 1250w at the wall down to 1100w, no loss of speed and each card running 5-10 degrees cooler.
I wasn’t brave enough to go below 1.075v per card, I’ve hard of guys going lower but I was happy with that…
brave enough? there’s nothing to damage, if you undervolt too much the cgminer will crash, you reboot the computer and raise the voltage a bit until you find the lowest stable voltage the card will work on.
i’m running my cards 1.03 to 1.08 (powercolors), 1.125 (sapphire dualx), Gigabyte is the best one with .
I actually have one cgminer instance for every GPU, since if one instance crashes I only have downtime on that instance. Also, I use separate workers on all of them so I can pinpoint issues via pool statistics (ie which card is not working). You can’t have different pools/workers on one cgminer instance.
but even with that, you need to list all per-gpu settings separated by commas, or the next cgminer instance you are starting assumes that the settings from it’s cgminer.conf apply to all the GPUs.
As opposed to mining more profitable altcoin, and then just trade it to FTC?
The profitability gap is quite wide, I expected it to narrow down due to people mining other altcoin and trading it for LTC, but it is still unreasonably wide.

I used a bitly link for the picture - thought you would all like to see the stats for which country people clicked from.
Quite an international community !

If anyone finds this creepy - I will remove the picture.

The $/khash is too high for this, and resale value is very low once it’s outdated… its worth it only if you got expensive electricity. 2nd gen will probably be much better, if the algos might be changed to fight that…
disregard this post, I mistakenly quoted my previous post instead of editing numbers
with undervolting to 1.03 to 1.07 i got 180-200W (edit: this is wrong, do the math from my 4 GPU rig numbers)
these are my figures, measured at AC output, so actual DC figures are at least 8% less, or more on cheaper PSUs.
4 GPU rig 1000-1050W on AC side, seasonic 1250W
3 GPU rig - I forgot, but I run it on Enermax 860W. Find my post where I listed it on this forum
2 GPU rig - 450-500W corsair CX750
mobo+cpu+ram+disk with no GPUs - around 80W.
Undervolting saves a lot of power, and heat, Full voltage at default value wears GPU fans, clogs them with dust faster. Undervolting is absolutely a must, and it’s unreasonable to run the cards at full voltage. It took me a few restarts /gpu crashes to get the optimum voltage, so it’s pretty easy. The difference in temperatures is huge too. I think mine would run at 95*C and throttling haven’t I changed the thermal paste to Gelid GC extreme and undervolted. It’s a whole different world now.

So how long will it take to mine feather coin meaning when will i start seing some profitable in them??

Current scrypt mining ROI is about 3 months for new rigs. Not taking into account difficulty increase. If you go in it for the long term it’s a gamble with big risks and huge potential gains. For more info Google it or provide some input parameters.

GIGA R9-280x @ 1050MHz at 1.05v~1.075v w/710~720kh/s
4 GPU = 1050w AC on seasonic 1250w
It was 1400w AC at stock volt - 1.2v.
So almost the same numbers. I got one of those gigabyte 280x and I got best results with 1065MHz GPU clock.
I’m thinking about adding a 4th GPU to the rig powered by 1050W seasonic, should be enough, and it’s got 7 year warranty.
Powercolor 280x 1030-1065MHz/1500 @ 1.03-1.065V (undervolted to a “sweet spot” regarding GPU frequency). Getting 700-730khash.
Gigabyte B75 something mobo D3V if I remember correctly
Mobo+CPU+RAM+3.5"Disk 80W AC (estimation 70W DC)
2 GPU Rig 450-500W on AC side - Corsair cx750 PSU.
3 GPU Rig 750-780W AC - Enermax 860PSU
4 GPU Rig 1000-1050W AC - Seasonic [s]1200W[/s]1250W
Measured on AC side, so actuall DC consuption is 10-15% less than these numbers, meaning the PSUs might be less powerful/expensive than the most figures I found online, it’s 180-210W per GPU.
This is sad, people in this forum are very very nice, trusting and trustworthy, very sad to read something like this. I recently switched jobs and country, so I cant participate actively, but this is a really nice community I once hope to be a part of.
This sad, I don’t think any threats, violence or illegall stuff is the right approach here. The money, or risk, or your conscience is not worth it. If it was me, I’d try to organise people, choose a “leader” or two to pursue the matter, give them a cut of your debt, and give them time and means to pursue it with such pressure that the pressure and bad reputation will overtake possible gains. For 40k$ (that is what I read the total sum is) I don’t think someone will risk being labeled as a fraud his entire life, and if that is not the intention, maybe you can come with an agreement how to reimburse the debt, in installments if necessary. Insults, threats, etc, will not get this matter to a good territory.
Also, I’m no sure why some of you parted with couple of k$ to somebody you don’t know, no written contracts, no identity validation… the investment could be done incrementally, with receipts, and pics of hardware, maybe a chosen forum hero could have visited the premises… If it was me offering cloud hashing, I’d do all that’s necessary to provide validity to the project. Miners are usually not rich, and invest their hard earned cash, that is to be respected.

i have now compiled a post with all the information i have - ready to post it when i get the go ahead from a hero member. Its pretty compelling
very sad to hear, still hope there’s a decent explanation. It is quite more challenging to build a large mining operation in comparison to just a rig or two, higher expenses and maintenance, heating and electrical issues, he did post a lot of info int he forum. Maybe he just got “scared” of taking the responsibility of fulfilling the contracts. I had a similar idea but taking the uptime responsibility is not to be taken lightly.
Also, whatever your intentions are - FYI I think it is illegal to publish private information online.
Powercolor 280x, 13.11, win7 ultimate 64bit, cgminer 3.72, one cgminer instance per GPU (because I want per card hashrate monitoring from the pool side)
In all my multi gpu rigs, one card is always couple of percent slower, i.e. all cards are 720khash/s, except of one which is 670-90khash/s
one cgminer instance per gpu. Exactly the same cgminer.conf with all gpus, and all gpu’s are identical.
There’s a list/spreadsheet where all modified bioses are listed.

the thread is lengthy… can you post a link to that sheet, if you know what page it is in…
Similar issue, let me try to revive this thread

edit: will start another thread… no need to reply here…
I used to run them 4% underclocked, 10% undervolted to get around 30% less power used, stability, less fan noise, less heat, lesser PSUs. Huge difference.
Also I highly recommend to change the termal paste, I got significantly lower temps and fan revs when I put Gelid GC extreme. One tube is just sufficient for 15 GPUs if careful. Easier to apply while GPU is still warm.
what hash rate are you getting from the 280x and what are your settings? voltage? gpu clock?
been out a while, it’s been crazy time to set this all up. Couple of bad mobos, kid, wife, daily job, setting this up remotely… aargh, I just recently moved to another country, barely had time to settle and relax, and I then (of course my wife says) found another hobby.
anyway, powercolor cards are decent, can be undervolted with trixx, giving about 680khash/s on default settings in guiminer. Consuming around 220W @ 1ghz, 1.2V, maybe 10W less when undervolted to 1.04V
I haven’t had time to optimize it in anyway. I promised wife to cash in everything at least until we get 50% ROI.
I found a problem in this alt coin expansion, it’s the switching pools amassing huge hashing power, which can totally kill smaller new coins, difficulty and exchange rate wise, and is very tempting for new miners in this gold rush… but let’s not continue about this in this thread… I’ll make a new topic in appropriate section.

I was thinking about one rig, then I considered two is better. When I saw the discount price for the cards in booked 15pc immediately, to give me time to think . I was at the shop 2 hours later and took them all. They were below market price.
