Methinks that, given that BTCChina serves,well, the Chinese market, they are going to need Chinese citizens to start demanding CNY/FTC exchange for this to get any attention.

Just thinking, maybe we could do something big with the influencers, like getting together a 10,000FTC pool to be given away by Max Keiser (who’s been pumping the hell out of BTC, saying it’s going to USD350, etc) in some kind of competition? The publicity the coin would get would make it worth IMO. Not sure of the details, but thought if I put this idea out there, someone might improve upon it. 8)

I’m flat out atm, and I’m offline for a month trekking in Nepal from late November, but come January I got a bit of time spare. So perhaps if you’ve got a list of potential merchants you think might be interested, I could make contact (not that I’m a great salesman or anything!) with them and explain the benefits of getting in early as a merchant for ftc. Having said that, I think it would be necessary to plug each new merchant as they come on board. I’m thinking the package includes free plug via the FTC forum, twitter, any other social media (we could possibly include them in future videos like the one done at the Oxford Blue???) plus addition to the “Feathercoin Merchants Hall of Fame” for the first 1000 merchants to accept FTC (basically a flashy web directory/page with all the early adopters on it) - or perhaps the first 100 in each category.
In any case, no point just asking them to accept FTC in theory, we need to get them some custom if they’re to continue accepting FTC payments.
Nah, scratch that. It’s a dumb idea, even if it worked. Yeah, it would lead to faster adoption of feathercoin in the short to medium term, but probably doesn’t offer much long-term value.
And perhaps, more to the point, its not up to us “feathercoin insiders” as Hazard likes to describe us. We’ll know that feathercoin is on a path to sustainable adoption when businesses and customers (of whatever shade of legitimacy) start using feathercoin without being assisted or prompted to do so.
Ok, I know based on previous discussion of a related matter that this suggestion is highly contentious and some will love the idea and others will hate it. But if it worked, it would see increased adoption of FTC for sure. (Not sure how to make it work though.)

Now IF Sheep Marketplace or BlackMarket Reloaded, or any other new Tor market were to accept feathercoin, it’s a sure thing more people would be buying into feathercoin. And given that the death of Silk Road seems to have not hurt Bitcoin terribly much, it seems fair to say that this strategy may work.
I’ve no idea how to make this happen, but perhaps one way would be to ask the site managers? I think a persuasive argument could be made as to why this would be a profitable option for them. Is it worth a try??? ???
You’re wrong Radacoin. FTC is only 6 months old. How much did you know about BitCoin circa January 2010? Not much I bet. If you want to compare FTC to BTC, then at least compare them at their same age.
More importantly, you’re getting upset today because FTC price is down. Will you be elated tomorrow when the price goes up? Don’t be. It’s important not to get tossed about on the waves of fluxuating price levels (and that’s true for any cryptocurrency you may own) but to see the big picture. Seeing the big picture means also seeing what’s happening both within the cryptocurrency community, including feathercoin, but also the wider world. eg: IF the US defaults on it’s debt in the next couple of weeks, there’ll be trillions worth of value looking for a new home, and I’d be willing to bet that IF that happens, a modest portion of it will find its way into cryptos, including feathercoin (and no, I’m not betting the farm on it, but my point is this could happen). And a modest portion of a trillion dollars is quite a bit of value - for now at least! ;) This may or may not happen, but it’s a short term thing anyway. What matters is the long term value of cryptos like feathercoin.
I’m sticking with feathercoin because it represents long-term value. The devs understand that feathercoin is in its early stages and success is not guaranteed. As a result they know they need to innovate, and they know feathercoin needs to reach out to merchants and everyday people to get increased adoption. That hunger for success over the long-term coupled with a knowledge that keeps the currency improving iswhat’s making feathercoin stronger.
Quick quiz by way of analogy:

Answer: Apple was first to market, and now Samsung ships the most units.
Yeah, Bitcoin got to market before Feathercoin, but that’s no guarantee that they’ll be the biggest cryptocurrency by market cap in five or ten years time. Feathercoin can’t be Apple (according to the analogy I’m making above), just so long as FTC isn’t Micro$oft (in regards to its efforts in smartphones - which were late off the mark, and a pretty dodgy value proposition in terms of product) I think the future for Feathercoin is bright.
That’s my 2FTC worth. 8)
If you can come up with something credible, that allows for international transfer of money from one country to another, with fees that beat the other money exchangers, then I’m a +1, and will even plug it to many of the foreign workers and expats that I know.

Even for those who are familiar with Feathercoin may find the “Why Feathercoin?” section interesting because, for those who are involved with FTC on a daily or weekly kind way, the past few weeks have been a bumpy ride to say the least, and I’ve tried to put that into perspective to some extent.

I tried your suggestion out of exasperation. I ‘touched’ a bunch of locale files with suffix *.qm. When I ran qmake the result was the same. The *.ts files were some kind of xml files. Perhaps I should have 'cp’d or ‘ln’d from the .ts files. But it seems I’m stuck in this cul-de-sac for now. :’(
I was just checking out the timeline created by Pyxis and it struck me that Feathercoin will be 6 months old on the 16th October - just 12 days from now.

I’ve got a bit of time this week. I’ll have a crack at it. I’m not an expert on FTC, just a forum stalker - which is an advantage because I’m not associated with the feathercoin project or team, which means my edits should pass muster.
I note one of the main criticisms is that the article is working from an original based on the Litecoin page. I think we can do better, especially for the introductory section in which we could provide an overview of the technology - especially that which is unique about FTC - and of the motivations for establishing feathercoin, and its ethos, etc.
I’ve no trouble writing documentation, but if anyone’s got any recommended dotpoints or links to source info that would help. Feel free to PM me or reply here in this thread. I’ll look into the links above and see if I can apply it.

I did this, and /usr/bin/lrelease was working - at least according to ‘top’ it was using 99% of CPU - but there was no result forthcoming. I killed the process. This is the same as what happened before. It could be a problem with my version of lrelease. I’ve no idea.

I’ve now tried both the .deb packages you’ve provided. Both failed on my HP Touchsmart, though again, I’ve got an amd64 machine, and it may be it requires a .deb compiled for the 64bit platform.
BTW, I did screw up the feathercoin command, but tried the correct ‘feathercoind’ command with various flags and got nothing.
So I’m truly stuck without an FTC wallet for the time being unless I upgrade (stable version won’t be ready till December) or can figure out another way to compile the source code. All the same, I do appreciate your help Wellenreiter. ;)

I just tried your xubuntu .deb - it doesn’t seem to work. Generally any kind of ubuntu package will work on linuxmint if it’s the same version. It’s worth noting though, that I’m running amd64 - I’ve had troubles before with packages not specifically for the 64-bit platform.

Thanks for the tip Wellenreiter. I was totally unaware of this bug. And it looks like I’ve got it as I’m using a version of LinuxMint based on Ubuntu 13.04. It seems like a problem with qmake as you’ve pointed out.
I tried your tip on using ‘ln -s’ to the dir /usr/bin/lrelease and tried running qmake again. At first I thought it was working as the command line indicated something was happening - well, no error - and the CPU was ticking over. I got suspicious after 15 minutes when it hadn’t resolved. “top” told me it was ‘lrelease’ that was running, no sign of qmake or make. I killed the process and it only then threw up the familiar error. So it appears that it doesn’t work.
This qmake problem it seems based on the bug doc can only be rectified by upgrading the distro. :-[
I was going to have a crack at making a .deb package and sharing it, but I think I’m going to have to not do that for the time being as I’m in no mood to upgrade just now (indeed, there won’t be an upgrade of a stable release for a month).

I checked inside the locale dir and found that the locale files had a *.ts suffix rather than a *.qm suffix. What to do?
I’m keen to update so I can get my wallet up to date post-fork.
