RE: [Dev] Kimoto gravity well integration - Feathercoind 0.8.5.1
Maxcoin also uses Kimoto gravity well.
It seems the Maxcoin devs did at least one thing right ;) -
RE: VertCoin did it - with a modified scrypt algorithm
You can make a trivial change such as N from 1024 to 2048, but it also means you have to update and maintain all mining software including pools. Is it worth the effort?
“all mining software” comes down to cgminer in real life. A modified version is easy to maintain.
And there are already heaps of Vertcoin pools - so that seems to be no problem either.
Man, that could have been us …

VertCoin did it - with a modified scrypt algorithm
In the early days of Feathercoin I proposed *) that we should change from scrypt to a “slightly” modified algorithm - to differentiate from all the others coins. And provide a “slightly” modified version of cgminer so that people could mine our coin.
The code changes would have been minimal.
Now someone has done exactly that: VertCoin
The price is already skyrocketing.

RE: Rumours about Feathercoin

It was already discussed here:
OK, I did read that thread. Essence is: We did use the code from Sunny King, no?
What about the second “accusation”? Did we really simply copy the Litecoin genesis block?

Rumours about Feathercoin
There are some ugly news spread around regarding Feathercoin. Bushstar, could you please say a few words to that?
“Fueled by the bitcoin buzz in the spring of 2013, feathercoin was created as a direct clone of litecoin. The creator unfortunately, could not implement the fork properly to get feathercoin off to a good start. The genesis block needs to be unique to feathercoin; however, the genesis block was copied directly from litecoin. …”

That trend continues to this day. You may remember about 6 weeks ago feathercoin added a “new†feature called Advanced Checkpointing.
It’s a nice feature, sure, but the feathercoin devs aren’t the creators of it. This feature was originally part of PPCoin, and yet, no credit is given. One must dig around on github to see that Sunny King (PPcoin dev) authored the commit. There’s no mention of him anywhere in the release post.”

RE: Any plans for a PHYSICAL FeatherCoin like Bitcoin and Litecoin have?
Okay, I found it but had to go through Twitter to get it…lol, http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,4411.msg34196.html#msg34196
That is awesome! We should spread this picture around.
Bitcoin is in the news big time. And it seems “the media” loves physical coins, because everywhere I look I see pictures like this in the articles:
I see no reason why there shouldn’t be pictures of physical Feathercoins ;)

\[Activity\] Add Feathercoin on kraken.com
kraken.com is becoming increasingly popular. Unfortunately they have (not yet) Feathercoin listed.
I recommend we contact them and ask them to add Feathercoin:

RE: Who's our marketing guy?
(1) I’d like to commit some of my time to marketing activities in Germany. chekaZ inspired my with what he achieved (http://www.dahms-weinversand.de/ accepting Feathercoin).
(2) imho it would be nice to have a forum called “Marketing Activities”, with subforums. One for “global” and one for each country we have marketing guys in.
What do you think? -
Who's our marketing guy?
I mean who focuses our marketing efforts? Whom to talk to? etc. …
-
Marketing Proposal: Target shops that already accept Bitcoin
I recently discovered that http://www.dahms-weinversand.de/ is already taking Feathercoin.
I big German delivery service started accepting Bitcoin: http://www.lieferservice.de/
Which made me think:
(1) Maybe we should focus our activities on stores that already take Bitcoin.
They should have a much lower “inhibition threshold” when it comes to Cryptocurrencies.(2) Both stores are in Germany. It seems Germans are almost as Bitcoin crazy as the Chinese. So we should put more effort in the German market?
I am a native German speaker - with some support (from marketing pros (I am IT)) I could be of some help.

RE: Network hash rate affected by incorrect listing on coinchoose
I think that our network hash rate would be higher if coinchoose was using the correct difficulty it seems to be stuck on 101 on coinchoose.
Whining about incorrect listings do not help.
We lose ground against Litecoin. That’s the main problem.
And we lose ground, because Litecoin is listed on major Chinese exchanges.
And we lose ground to a level that becomes threatening to us - because we become vulnerable to attackes.
Any action items?
-
RE: \[Activism\] China and Litecoin
imho we should not spam, aka annoy, them with mass emails.
It would be better if our marketings pros contact them.
-
\[Activism\] China and Litecoin
Meanwhile Litecoin is traded on 3 of the 6 biggest Chinese Bitcoin exchanges:
fxbtc.com
okcoin.com
btctrade.comWe should contact them and ask if they can add Feathercoin.
EDIT: email addresses

RE: Has anyone sent, "Please add FTC to your exchange" BTC China
+1
We should focus our efforts on the Chinese market!
And we have to react quickly! Because the higher the LTC/$ exchange rate goes, the more scrypt miners will mine LTC. Which means our hashrate drops and we become vulnerable.
-
Number of transactions compared to other coins
I just took a look at our FTC Explorer (which seems to be broken by the way -> layout problem).
The average number of transactions per block is around 3 at the moment. How do we do compared to our “competition” (other alt coins)? Is there something like an “approval rating chart” online?
(for your information: LTC has around 10 transactions/block at the moment. BTC has around 500 per block).

RE: Chinese?
Be warned regarding the chineses buying in, I’m personally in the opinion that the chinese are driving up a bubble in crypto market at this rate.
I wouldn’t mind a little bubble in the FTC prices - better than continuously falling behind BTC & LTC ;)
-
RE: Chinese?
Added it to “our” feedback page:
http://feedback.feathercoin.com/forums/208241-general/suggestions/4932304-enter-chinese-market -
Chinese?
btcnCNY has superseded MtGox as the biggest exchange.
Baidu (the Chinese Google) accepts Bitcoin.
It seems China is the driving force when it comes to Bitcoin acceptance.
Do we have any marketing activities in Chinese forums, conferences, etc?
Baidu accepts Bitcoin. I see no reason why it shouldn’t accept LTC or FTC as well. Do you?
