Unless the two profitability calculators I tried are wrong, I am slated to get less FTC per day mining than I was before the hard fork :-/

There wasn’t a supply problem to fix.
This x100. The only supply problem with currency is that governments can increase the supply of their fiat as often as they want and making everyone that has that fiat have less value. Infinite supply equals infinite inflation equals terrible long term currency.

RE: Bootstrap.dat for Feathercoin?

- 1, having just updated the client on my server it took forever to fetch the chain again :-\
My question is, is the bootstrap not just a large section of the chain, in which case would it not take the same amount of time to fetch anyway? Providing a 1 gig file to download somewhere is bound to cost in bandwidth, whereas I get the impression the client downloads it as peer2peer - or am I mistaken?
When I did the process with Litecoin, it was considerably faster to download the file directly than it was for the p2p way to happen.

Bootstrap.dat for Feathercoin?
I just reinstalled the client because I formatted my computer (saved my wallet of course ;)) and wow … downloading the initial blockchain info takes a long time. What would it take to make a bootstrap.dat available for new users? I’ve learned that there are workarounds from http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,4885.msg43883.html#msg43883 but thinking with an eye to the future, it would be great to include downloading the most recent bootstrap as part of the install process to make it nicer for new users that don’t have the knowledge or the access to those use those workarounds.
I say this not as a code savvy developer but as an end user. I realize what I’m saying could very well be incredibly difficult to implement but I thought I’d at least start a conversation about it :)

RE: Renting mining rigs
Rough math says that the same amount of bitcoin for renting can buy you more feathercoin than the mining would get you. Maybe I’m missing a benefit…?

RE: Welcome back everyone
Coming from someone ignorant about what forum software is available and doesn’t use PHP … what would you recommend?

RE: USD to FTC! Coinmkt.com
THAT is exciting!! I’ve been waiting for this to happen :-) Buying more Feathercoins has been a chore to say the least

RE: Welcome back everyone
As long as we are looking into changing forum engines and site redesigning, having dedicated and branded Feathercoin Forum apps would be awesome and should help lend credibility to our community.
edit:
I say this fully realizing that I have no idea how hard that would be and that I couldn’t help… -

I have posted an update here.http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=7031.msg53583#msg53583
Moving to VBulletin would be a good option as it is more actively developed though it is commercial. Not sure that I would rate phpBB any higher than SMF.
Surely, we can get donations from the community to purchase VBulletin? I don’t have much to offer but I’d be willing. It wouldn’t take much from each person if a bunch of us chipped in :D

Put me on a waiting list!

RE: How many coins do you have?
260 by mining. I unfortunately only get about 6 a day :( I’d love to build an awesome mining rig though…maybe with tax return money :D

I found it :-) I think I had to wait until I had 10 posts maybe? At any rate, +1 rep occurred :-) -

Hmm, I don’t wanna say it but this is more bad news then good I believe… If you sell a mining rig now you can maybe even make a small profit on it.
My investment isn’t profitable any more because those willing to invest more are outpacing me. New technology sucks, and we should just stick with what works. :o
I was listening to this yesteday: http://letstalkbitcoin.com/e71-blockchain-tools-and-litecoin-devs/
And I was just dumbfounded at how the Litecoin guy was talking about ASIC.
He said, and I quote, “The main reason why I decided to use scrypt is because I realized early on that it would be hard for alt currency to survive with Bitcoin if it was fighting for the same set of miners. Back then the Bitcoin miners were using GPUs so I wanted something that was hostile to GPUs but worked on CPUs, so scrypt was the choice, and one of the good things about scrypt is it scales well with hardware.”
30 seconds later he says, “I believe when ASICs for Litecoin do come out, it won’t wipe out the GPU miners.”
It’s like he’s totally delusional. He’s so absorbed in the whole ‘scrypt as a solution to ASICs’ chant he doesn’t even realize he’s completely contradicting himself, and ignoring the overwhelming evidence: GPUs wiped out CPU mining, and ASICs wiped out GPU mining. He said himself, scrypt scales well with hardware. What on earth would then make him think that in an increasingly competitive marketplace a vastly inferior solution would still have a reasonable place?
Scrypt ASICs are coming. They’re going to put your GPU farm out of business in short order when they do, just like the Bitcoin ASICs did. This is ENTIRELY a GOOD THING™. It will create a larger market demand for specialized hardware, driving difficulty and demand up, increasing the valuation of scrypt based coins, greatly rewarding early adopters and severely punishing those who hold on to the old ways for too long. This is entirely as it should be, and I for one welcome our new ASIC overlords, and feel no sympathy for those of you who are crying over the rapid rate of progress.
well said :) To be clear, the only thing I’m lamenting is the fact that I won’t be able to gain any MORE coins when that day comes that our ASIC overlords rule supreme. Increased difficulty in mining new Feathercoins is ultimately a VERY good thing since it increases scarcity and by extension, it’s inherent value.
Good point about the ASICs creating a new market for specialized hardware. Demand in any market is a good thing for currency as a whole. +1 rep

RE: Rising difficulty
Seems strange the latest rise in hashrate though, yeah it has increased on exchange, but still not high enough to be on the top profitable mining coin chart. meaning where is the extra 5-6k Mhash coming from?
working prototypes of these maybe?

First Scrypt ASIC coming out of Alpha Technology?
https://alpha-t.net/shop/
and the article I read
http://www.coindesk.com/alpha-technology-pre-orders-litecoin-asic-miners/
Thoughts? I’m afraid this will affect lower-end card miners like myself (single HD7850 at 330 khash.) Personally, I can only try to mine as many as possible before these ASICs cause the difficulty to rise too much because I’m not sure I’ll be able to convince my wife that $2,225 is ok for me to spend :)

CPU: AMD A10 6880k (I like this one since it has an AMD 8670D inside and I can use it to mine just not to leave the CPU doing nothing)
What kind of hash rate are you getting from the 8670D?
