All the coin articles nominated for deletion, except for possibly Novacoin, look like they are on track for either ‘keep’, or ‘no consensus’ which defaults to keep. This is the second attempt at deleting the FTC article.

/b/… I assume 4chan. I’ll pass ;) I don’t go there.
No comment on Craptsy. oops, I just did. ::)
Okay okay, I get the point about dumping the Dogecoins now and putting them into something with staying power.
Hmmm… profitable you say? Let me see that a second…
Ah, but .00029 * 3900 Dogecoins/day = $1.131 a day or $33.93 a month.
For FTC it is .33 * .07 = $0.0231 a day or $0.69 a month. That doesn’t even pay for the electricity. :)
Hence, I’m mining Dogecoins right now :)
(edit, correct for fallen FTC price)
Except it’ll NEVER maintain that valuation. Not even for a month.
I don’t expect it to. Let’s just say I’m glad to find a coin this old junker of a computer can mine…for now.
One of these days I’m gonna invest in a proper mining rig…

RE: Competitors
LOL at Coinmarketcap. I’ve seen that happen before, with EZcoin.

Surprised no one on here has mentioned Crypto-Trade. I have been using them for a while now and I have had no problems with them. That and they offer Paypal withdrawals ;D
I did…above…but I suppose that post was a tl;dr.
Oh, and they also have a FTC/USD trading pair ;D
Have you tried their PayPal withdrawal and how well does it work?

RE: Exchange alternatives
I’d be interested in good exchanges too until if/when Cryptsy gets their act together. Seeing them add more coins to the LTC markets yesterday morning when our withdrawals and deposits were stuck 15 hours was the last straw. I did think Cryptsy were good people who were just in over their heads with an overloaded and buggy site. Now I think they’re just greedy.
The other sites I know about and like are either low volume or low number of coins, or both. Of course if a lot of people switch to Crypto-Trade and Vircurex they will no longer be low volume. It also remains to be seen if they could handle a big increase in volume. (Edit: Vircurex’s LTC market is buggy. I haven’t had any issues with the site otherwise.)
I keep hearing about BTER and Coinex.pw. Have not used either. They look like they are the closest to Cryptsy with number of coins listed. How are they - high volume or low? Reliable or not?
I do not recommend Coins-E. They are supposedly under new management. I’ll believe anything has changed for the better if they ever credit the hung deposits from July and August to my account. Support is still completely nonresponsive.

dogecoin is going to be next bitcoin…also im going to be next president of United states :P
At least it’s something my not-exactly-much-of-a-mining-rig can mine profitably. For now.

RE: Feathercoin USD live rate?
coinmarketcap.com has the USD rate too, along with about 30 other coins.
If you click on the price coinmarketcap shows, it will show all the exchanges it averaged out to get that price, and what the current rate is on each exchange.

A friend of me bought/traded BTC for FTC using btc-e for me which worked instantly without any problems, not sure how it’s reputation is for withdrawals tho.
BTC-e is fine for both deposits and withdrawals of FTC, BTC, etc. It’s trying to deposit or withdraw USD that I keep seeing complaints about which is why I wouldn’t attempt it.

RE: Best Exchange Site?
Re Vircurex, I’ve never had a problem with them. I’ve heard stories though. Best I can tell it’s a one man show with a low trading volume. Also I do not know of any way to get USD onto or off that site right now since they only accepted VouchX, and VouchX was discontinued months ago.

RE: Best Exchange Site?
Yes…they show PayPal on their front page but they only allow PayPal for withdrawals, not deposits. Plus the fee is 9% for using PayPal. See here https://www.crypto-trade.com/fees

RE: Best Exchange Site?
Again if you’re talking about getting USD onto the site from the US, Crypto-Trade may not be what you’re looking for either. From outside of the U.S. is probably fine. They take OKPAY, PerfectMoney, and Payeer. I don’t know anything about Payeer, but the other two do not accept U.S. customers last I checked no thanks to the govt’s absurd war on offshore banking.
-
RE: Best Exchange Site?
I should mention, those three sites are mentioned are great if you only want to upload cryptocurrencies and trade them against other cryptos.
If you want to transfer USD in from the U.S. to trade with then no, I do not recommend attempting it on BTC-e. Haven’t tried it myself but I’ve read there are too many problems getting it there.
The best bet for buying BTC with USD from the U.S. is Coinbase but they require you to link your bank account. The best used to be Bitinstant and they used Moneygram to take your payment rather than taking any banking information, but they are down and nobody knows when their supposed relaunch is going to be.

RE: Best Exchange Site?
The big U.S. exchange (Cryptsy) is the one I trust the least right now. They need to get their site fixed. Unless something has changed overnight, deposits and withdrawals are still taking 10 hours to go through, trades are either taking hours or not registering at all, orderbooks are hours out of date.
Three exchanges that work and work well for what they are, in order, BTC-e, Crypto-Trade, and Vircurex. But, well, one of them is in Russia, one in Hong Kong, and one is I’m not sure where, so if the U.S. is your preference you’re probably stuck with Cryptsy. Good luck. I’m tired of trying to get anything to go thru on that site and am finished with it.

RE: Feathercoin Linux client?
My successful build recipe is what I posted above. The whole sequence is:
unzip FeatherCoin-master.zip
cd FeatherCoin-master/src
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-
[this should produce a feathercoind executable which you can move to /usr/bin/]
cd …
qmake “USE_UPNP=-”
make
[this should produce a feathercoin-qt executable; again, move this to /usr/bin]Include the quotation marks around USE_UPNP=- when running qmake but not when running make.
I am running Trisquel GNU/Linux (a Debian/Ubuntu derivative, but entirely made up of “Free Software” in the FSF sense), on a 32 bit computer. The above has always worked for me compiling a Feathercoin client. I just tested it again to be sure.
Is there maybe an issue here with 64 bits not compiling while 32 bits does? Just a guess.
-
RE: Feathercoin Linux client?
I’ve always had to compile with UPNP support turned off. When you compile try:
make -f makefile.unix USE_UPNP=-
and
qmake “USE_UPNP=-”

RE: BBQCoin
I’ve seen more press for alt coins in the past few days than ever before. I’m talking about mainstream press - Wall Street Journal, CNBC. Things are going to get interesting, and I mean that in a good way.

RE: Holiday gift idea
Yeah good point. I was thinking of it along the same lines as giving someone a 1 ounce silver round, they would understand it has value and could either keep it for the long term or cash it in. Or today, many people have heard of Bitcoin and would welcome a gift of BTC. Few people have heard of FTC and may not understand that 250 FTC is worth $20-25 right now, and potentially much more if they hold on to it. Also I’d be concerned about the gift being taken the wrong way and they’d think we’re trying to drag them into Amway or something like that.
