            If they’re truly going to be ~300USD for a 5 chip rig, I’m going to sell my rig*, max out the credit I have with my boss, and buy 20**.

            *I may not actually do this. DEM POWER COSTS tho. I paid $80 in electricity last month.

            **I may actually only buy a few and put them alongside my rig. Got the raspberry pis I’d need for them all ready to go, though.

              I pay 300 a month on electricity 8) I wont be selling my rigs as a Scrypt-Jane coin will most definitely be hitting the scene. In response to these asics.

                            True it doesn’t seem to be cost effective for anyone to pay those prices. The chips probably cost near nothing to print and gridseed will only sell when its much more profitable than mining themselves, hence the high price. At prices like that, GPUs are a way better investment. Even if electricity is too high to mine, it makes much more sense to buy ftc than buy one of these. And the argument “buying crypto is too risky because if it fails you have nothing” also applies here. If crypto fails these will have zero resale value since they are specialized for mining. So again, you are better off buying the coins. Hence, the only reason to buy one would be for the novelty/hobby value.

                            at least, BitCoin’s ASIC might be useful for things like bruteforcing…
                            there are still MANY database out there that utilize SHA256 without a seed. An ASIC with 600GH/s (2k USD) can easily bruteforce 10 characters or more within days.

                            Given the fact that people have done it with a GPU cluster of 5 (6 billion calculation/s each), for Windows XP/Vista/7 password. 600GH is 100x more each!

                                Thats my intention. Allowing our members to make the most informed purchases with their hard earned money. Decisions which will ultimately benefit feathercoin! Lets have some of the strongest adoption rates of these machines in turn giving us voting power on scrypt networks.

                                      The minimum is 10 units not 10 chips. There are multiple chips per unit.
