I can do a mock up of what I think would work well. Also maybe switch backends. Give-Me-Coins use Vanilla: http://vanillaforums.org/. We could also use NodeBB: http://nodebb.org.
Wow I love the look of Nodebb, but my goodness that is going to be a lot of work, no? Do you want to volunteer for that project? :D

Awesome! So much is happening on Feathercoin at the moment. Now is also correct timing for webpage update. Chris, I sent some contents ideas on your PM. Received? Hope you find couple useful things from there.
-
I have an unused VBulletin license for 3.x or 4.x
Not the latest and greatest but many huge forums are still on 3.x
I will donate it to the Feathercoin community if it’s wanted. -
Ah you know what I did and put it in my Evernote for safe keeping and then never replied, sorry! I loved those ideas especially the one about letting the merchants download artwork like “Feathercoin Accepted Here”. Really good, I will make sure they make it in to the mix. +1 rep.

Hi, it’s nice that you always want to keep the innovation going. At the same time, your homepage is quite nice already, it’s one of the best cryptocurrency websites. I guess it could always look a little nicer of course, I think megacoin has a particularly nice looking one. But your website is one of the reasons I decided to get into feathercoin versus other cryptocurrencies that had more technical innovation. I do also think it looks quite modern already and the video you put up looks very current, many adverts on TV look like that at the moment so it espouses professionalism and appeals to the masses. You should make a whole ream of these style videos on different themes IMO.
So by all means keep innovating but I’d be careful not to go too far and try to fix what isn’t broken and make a royal mess of it like Google is doing with YouTube right now.
BTW I think taking some stylistic cues from the classic infographics style would work well for feathercoin, it is a friendly style but can express serious subjects and I notice a lot of people into crypto tend to be about late 20s to mid 30s, the age group grew up with infographics (Usborne etc), plus the style has a strong British tradition. Example: Royksopp’s video for remind me
A switch to NodeBB would be a very welcome one. I’m happy to volunteer my time on getting it configured and running. It’s a fairly straightforward stack: NodeJS, Reddis, and Websockets (excuse me while I fangurl), so a couple of “apt-get install” and “npm install” should be all that’s needed to begin.

As someone else mentioned, the video is great. It offers a friendly / positive / intelligent group with a lot of hope in feathercoin. I’m sure it was part of what convinced me to join and mine.
But having said that, the current still image (of the video) that is shown to potential new users is a random guy (to the newbies) with a near empty pint glass, maybe not the most professional image to lead with. You should be able to change this image in YouTube admin…and lets face it, this is what people will see when they first find feathercoin.com
I run a pretty popular YouTube tech channel about a million views, I think I’m pretty good at YouTube optimisations (keywords etc) and would be happy to offer my help with that.
Yeah, I gotta agree with that. I look at that picture every time, and all I can think is “I’m not saying it was Aliens”…

If we are going for a site redesign you must incorporate the colour blue.
“Blue is a calming colour that is associated with terms like peace, truth, honesty, stability, confidence and wisdom.”
More on blue
Hey thanks for your feedback. I just tried to change the still image and it hasn’t updated yet. I will leave it for a few hours and see if it updates.
Can you link me to your youtube channel, your help in the future will be much appreciated.
If the YouTube channel hasn’t had too many views, you can only select between three pre-selected frames from the video, if you have more views you can upload an image. It can be a frame from the video extracted via video editing software, or another more custom “thumbnail”. So you might be limited to just the three right now.
Sure, I’ll send you a pm with my channel.
Oh there is a massive delay in setting the thumbnail and it actually doing it. It is supposed to be the circuit board, not Ruth. *Facepalm*
I was wondering. I mean Ruth is very photogenic, but you didn’t exactly capture her best likeness. I wouldn’t mind Ruth there at all… just maybe not frozen mid-word? Or a circuit-board. Whichever. :)

I’m a little late to this thread, sorry.
Having had my head under the hood of the SMF CMS… my first thoughts are porting to a stronger future proof CMS.
Three come to mind: Wordpress / Joomla /Drupal
Wordpress is great but is essentially a glorified blogging system with some ace bells and whistles now. Has a strong forum in BBpress http://bbpress.org/
Joomla is a solid and robus CMS, easy to use once you get stuck in and has thousands of addons from cart systems to blogging and forums.
Drupal, I believe is almost the standard for CMS’s to aspire to be… I haven’t really got stuck in to Drupal.
Any of the 3 options will require a DB port to the new system, this may need to be written… but it may be already be available. I personally believe bridging forums etc if we move to a new CMS is a bad idea. So it is all or nothing for me if we port.
I can’t really get involved in skinning the theme till we decide on the CMS to be honest.
I would like to add that I have not seen a single SMF theme that begins to compare with themes available for Joomla or Wordpress.

+1 Entimp.
Joomla is real nice. Drupal is fine if you want to do a LOT of customization, but it falls down in a lot of places really badly. Other than that, I agree with everything your saying.
I don’t know that a database port is a requirement, more of a nice to have. So long as you keep the old forums online, it’s possible to just start fresh.
Discussing platforms for the new site, I’ve made good experiences with Zikula. It’s not a well known as Drupal or Joomla, but very flexible and powerful, which also may be a drawback, as it also can be complex, if you use too many different modules.
There are also hundreds of themes available. But my major question is, if you think about including a wiki module to store howto’s, handbooks, and tips and may be a FAQ module to handle all these ‘what is the best power supply’ and ‘which GPU should I buy’ type of questions.
