Honest and open Discussion: Is FTC trying to be \#2 or \#3?
-
Essentially I want to get some clarification on the goal of what feathercoin as a community intend to position itself in respect to the obvious #1 and #2 candidates (Bitcoin and Litecoin).
Clarifying this goal will help set any critics straight on the intentions of FTC. I think that if the goal is to directly compete with Litecoin in an attempt to overtake it, it may fail. The same would have rung true had LTC tried to do that to BTC.
Im not making any accusations but clarification of the points brought up above would be valuable for the entire community and future users.
Thanks

King of the Alts. ;)
I no longer see LTC as an alt and to that end we’re not even in the same league. In recent weeks it had made it’s own way against fiat rather that simply following BTC up and down.
That said time will tell… ;)
What competition? Our goals are simple:
- To provide an easy way for non-tech users to acquire FTC
- To develop a robust market to allow members of the community to offer products for Feathercoin
- To integrate an automated escrow service for the market to address trust concerns
- To develop a friendly client for JoeUser
- To develop tutorials that make it easy for people to buy/sell, trade or mine Feathercoin
- To develop strong API related tools for merchants
- To develop strong relationships with merchants interested in FTC
- To foster awareness of Feathercoin OUTSIDE the crypto community
- To foster a grassroots feel where everyone can find their specific niche
- To work with partner coins in reaching the goals stated above
There’s no catching up to anyone. We’ll succeed or fail based on our accomplishments alone. Every day, we continue to attract new members to the community and get better at organizing efforts.

FeatherCoin is e to the x.
There is no #1 or #2 or #3. If people need something we build it.
In order to play with the douchey #1, #2, #3 crowd you have to assume there is some cosmic law that requires snail’s pace evolution and no duplication, not even to explore or backtrack because #1 and #2 neglected to do something that is now critical.
Feathercoin, as I understand what we’re doing, is not comparing to the others.
Anything I develop for feathercoin will be available for all other coins. That’s the whole point of Leathercoin, the testing platform.
I have no intention of being part of a club or clique, but clusters of active people are fun to be around. All my work is for Feathercoin and the whole cryptocoin universe. But let’s face it, this community is the easiest and most active (as in producing not posting) to work with.
There is not one community that can match the surreal enthusiasm here. I wouldn’t bother trying elsewhere, there’s just no point.
My goal is to provide the best features. If we’re the #3 coin, fine. The real prize is being the gold standard that everyone copies. I want crypto to win, fraud to lose.
John,
Thanks for the info. I must have missed those points you listed above (or at least some of them).
I think my OP intent was to at least address those intentions if there are any of competing with litecoin. If not, then it should be laid out as it isnt trying to compete with litecoin. Simple really.
okay i see your point and duly noted.
My point was just to clarify to the community and other coin communities of this.
If we arent trying to compete with litecoin then it should be made known. I think we have a great community here. I just wanted to open up the discussion not open up an argument on the topic.
True saying something is #1, #2, or #3 can be viewed as absurd. But not everyone thinks that way. Just a thought.
Yeah, you’re onto something. People look at their own progress and process it through their built up perception and that makes our trajectory hard to follow. So much of it comes from the off the shelf software market. The idea that we don’t have features because we want to include people skews the valuation. People assume this is a finished coin so they get angry. Also they think the market is a magical unicorn. And a positive response to a coin they didn’t expect makes them feel like we must have violated a cosmic law of the market.
If any goal could be clear as as possible, it’s that Feathercoin will never be finished. No, sir.
Incidentally, if the rivalry gets really nasty, I’ll start calling #1 and #2, FinishedCoin #1 and #2. Scout’s honor.

Smoothie,
I’m glad you brought this to my intention, we don’t have this information documented anywhere. Added to the list of items to complete.

I feel it’s its own thing. Same way people used to purchase with sticks and stones, then shells, then gold and silver, then bills, and now cryptos. None of the previous currencies competed with each other, they just evolved into something more convenient or worth while. The same way, while Feathercoin isn’t a currency all to its own, it’s doing its own thing to make it stand out and be what it needs to be. Will it be #4 in value? Maybe. How about #1 in value, overlapping even Bitcoin? Although improbable, it’s possible. It just depends on how much people like how it evolves.
It’s kind of like dollars and pounds. They never intended to compete, but they both came out to serve the same purpose. It just so happens due to the economy of one country, one currency is worth close to twice the other. Feathercoin is there for those who prefer it, and other coins are available if not.
Just my two cents :)
I was going to post a “Spirit of Truth” link where he goes into, “it’s not a competition, it’s a cooperation” … but if you know SoT, what followed that line was not apropos.
So, well said John! “What competition?”
My interpretation of something a LTC Dev said may be wrong (I don’t think I misinterpreted though), but your “FinishedCoin” may be more true than most want to believe (especially when talking about LTC).
What I gathered from what he said was that he and Coblee are not going to be doing anything regarding adding merchant features (or any features). They are focused on just making sure the existing structure is secured and reliable and it’s up to “corporations” (I believe he said) or others to add anything else to LTC.
Which is fine. But if LTC fanboys are thinking they (the current dev team) are going to innovate LTC past this point, it sounds like they are mistaken.
So you know what happens then? All the LTC fanboys will blame FTC for not helping LTC innovate. lulz
I’ll say it again, “what competition”?
BTW I’m starting up DunningKrugerCoin (DKCoin/DKC) and it’s waaaaay better than all of these other coins and we’re already #1 without even being released.
-
I love it when free marketeers (where’s D’artagnan? I always thought that was a joke name) say it’s up to corporations to innovate.
*clears throat*
Um excuse me, but please get run over by a stampede of giant ferrets. Failing that, go jump in an alligator cage.
*feels better*Innovation has no club, no class, no separation, no roles. You either innovate or you don’t. There is no special group. Now, I understand that we should have a reference implementation, and it’s wonderful that Armory exists, but to hell with passive free markets. It’s navel gazing at its worst. There is no special category or privileged group which is expected to innovate.
You either build or you don’t. Clearly, they have no intent of taking care of gaps that are leaving people stranded in a corrupted economy, so sayonara and thanks for playing.
Free market. You keep using that phrase, but I don’t think it means what you think it means.
