Mac mining and becoming a developer
-
Hi FTC community,
I’ve had my eye on mining for a while now and I think I’m ready to jump in. I’m happy to give it a shot on my macbook for now to feel it out.
Has anyone had any experience with Macminer? In particular, I’ve tried to set it all up but I’m getting stuck at locating the macminer folder and the .conf files in the /libary/applications support directory
I’ve tried both Macminer 1.5.57 and Macminer 1.5.42. I’m on macOS version 10.12.6
Here’s a youtube link to what I’ve been trying to do:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKtK_Eb9dv8Also I’d love to get started in becoming a block chain developer but have no coding experience whatsoever. Would someone be able to help me with some tips on where and how to get started?
Thank you greatly in advance!

Yes, the video and query is about FTC mining so I moved your post to mining ( more people might see it).

Thanks mate!

Re: where to start : Do you know Github? I “started” with learning that (software or project change control)
You can clone projects, build source code, watch commits via email on related projects to your interest.
Start small coding, looking for issues to work on, or help with a project, doing testing etc, to build up knowledge and experience in that “area”. -
@peeet - if you follow my MacOSX Guide - you basically have you’re build environment done. ;-) and you learn how to build software from source.

I have zero coding knowledge so Github is foreign to me but I’ll get started. Is this how you guys first learnt how to code? Or did you learn from other sources and developed your block chain knowledge through github?

I worked as a Manager / specifier / Tester, coding is more of an expertise, you need to be going to University and specializing in a particular area e.g. Databases, User Interface design, graphic processing, etc.
You can learn some aspects of coding, or work in a team to develop a project. Code Academy was good.
It depends what your skills are, or what the projects might be, maybe you are artistic and can look a design, or such. -
Great, thanks mate. I appreciate the response!
