How high was “too high”? If the service was consolidated with some other coins and shared maintenance costs would it help?
It was over $100 per month for server costs I think and the text messages also had to be bought in bundles and so the more people used it the more it cost. Of course there was the ongoing engineering costs and bug fixes on top of all that.
Companies like Blockchain.info are well funded and can afford to make their service free for the user as a loss leader to build good will and scale the business. For us that’s going to be much harder. The question is do we try and do it ourselves or partner with a bigger business like theirs?

The problem as far as i know is that very few people actually used the service, which made it obsolete and every loss is to high cost for the creator.
The biggest difference is that myriadcoin has done a good job promoting the service out on the forums (other then their own), i contacted them btw regarding them not beeing first, and the dev said thanks for notifying and changed the information (even included feathercoin in the edit text).
Imo there should be less focus on the feathercoin forum and more on the bitcointalk etc. People need to know about feathercoin before they actually go to the feathercoin forum. How will they know when feathercoin isnt throughout the days up on the main altcoin page beeing discussed.
Feathercoin will become an novelty coin for the few and loyal if it doesnt move outside its own forum to enlighen and involve other people (that includes trolls,knowhows,amateurs,pumpers,dumpers and competitors)

We need to promote our “products” (market, wallet, POS device…) - one at the time, each week something different, and we need to make it a chain reaction, bribe the people: retweet about Feathercoin market or make a post on popular forum, and you’ll get XY FTC…? I’m willing to invest in this if others will follow…
We need crowdfunding for both development and marketing actions…
So, focus on one aspect of FTC per week and pump it? sure, I’m quite happy to retweet any FTC info that pops up and pass it along by other means, I have already invested in FTC, I don’t need to be paid “XY FTC” I just need more opportunities to actually spend it. Best way to grow the economy, people being able to use it when and where they choose, that’s the hard part.

And if you look at Myriadcoin they have an separate sisterthread for each new function and or bounty etc, which kinda makes em all over the place on the altcoin section.
Making em hard to miss, and easy for people to stumble into.
What Feathercoin at the moment has is an weekly newsletter which is each week with or without “new” functionality. Which by all means is great, but it does not capture the techies, and it isnt something that captures new people. Theres no “specific” new stuff/functions etc that captures peoples attention/want to investigate/look into. Which then again makes it an kinda feathercoin fanclub kinda thing, and doesnt help for the value or adoption from other users.

Such an large “release/news” and thats it? Myriadcoin doubled in value over night on SMS launch. And only 52 views on an freaking ATM? Im betting nearly all of the 52 views is from feathercoiners clicking the link from the feathercoin forum…
The system “as is” is in my opinion broken, which kinda is reflected on the value of the coin
First start in my opinion would be to move away from the feathercoin forum and move alot of the chat in the bitcointalk OP thread. And when theres something new, bounty or whatever. Dont put it on feathercoin forum! let new people outside see that theres an buck or two to be made and make em dig into what feathercoin is and what comunity it has…

The problem is that people see Weekly news, and if they are not allready into feathercoin or invested and have an stake in it. They dont bother to read it.

I agree with that. I think most new entrants in to this scene aren’t really in to forums so we could have separate announcements under the News section in the on the main site then schedule out tweets and facebook posts for the different timezones. We can do forum post as well and link it to it, it’s to make sure it gets full exposure.
A lot of this is about getting the right sequence of activities. Back when Mark worked so hard on the wallets there just wasn’t the demand from the public, most of the demand was just speculative and people were flipping coins on exchanges. Now the crypto scene has become more embedded in the minds of regular folk I think they are doing their research and unlike the early adopters they are looking for coins that align with their values rather than technical innovation.
So if we’re all game we should try pushing again for some of that early work that Svenn and UKMark and Nutnut did, if they are up for it.

That part is dead as far as i know. I havent talked to Ukmark in ages, and i think we agreed that the wallet was to risky investment.

I am very glad I am small part of this comunity since the beginnig.
Until theres some changes in an positive direction im not gonna recommend any of my friends to invest. So im not gonna go screaming on forum for people to pump/invest their money either.
I think there needs to be alot more than some propagation and consistency. Theres the Feathercoin ATM in the mix, which is an great feature for sure. But what else?
What is beeing done at this very moment? I remember 6months back how entusiastisk alot of people was and new ideas/directions where talked about, but non really got realised.

I might be wrong, Ive not been on the feathercoin forum much lately, usually browsing on bitcointalk, And therefore arent enlighten about the latest development for feathercoin.
I do know a load about myriadcoin,darkcoin,microcoin,Dogecoin,Aidencoin and so on though, which kinda underline my whole point earlier.
Im not gonna get into an “new algo” discussion. Allready said my case on skype. And i dont think people liked my opinion.

Mining section seems to contain mostly pools trying to recruit miners, doesnt seem to be any miners there anymore. But why would them, even most of the core team dont mine feathercoin anymore

Newbie section seems to have more spam/commercial than newcommers.
and in general looking over the thread it seems its generally the core people that discuss everything. Small to none new blod with entusiasm and the devotion to bring feathercoin further.
