+1 rep Calem, this is a great idea. I haven’t been scammed so far and I’d like to keep it that way if I can.Can we add the Federal Reserve to the list of known scammers? 8)

We need a community of leaders… Not followers.
I suppose that is the primary goal here.
I think this could possibly be achaived with this “Welcome Pack” I’m brainstorming…
Once the voting period is over, I’ll start this next idea I’ve been playing around with.

Just bumping this so it remains fresh in my mind.

[me=Calem]coughs[/me]
bump.
Sorry. I’ve been very busy for the last week and will be for another. Just making sure I don’t forget about this.
I have a long list of things I would like to do for the community. This is one of the main ones.
Oh… Just because voting has ended, it doesn’t mean comments and suggestions should.
Keep it alive people.

I am in favour of anything that helps people make informed decisions and I like Wrapper’s idea of focussing on the positives and recommending known bonafide services. That way people are aware of any risks.
Please don’t use our newsletter to write about the scammers. Let create our own and new mechanisms for dealing with scum, just not our beloved newsletter.
I do agree… Maybe it is not something that should go in the newsletter. It should remain positive and light hearted. There’s better ways of keeping people informed about the latest scammers/scams doing the round.

So… Where were we on this topic again?

Crypto has always had a high level of scammers as the anonymous currency makes it easier to get away with it. Cypto is growing up fast but it does not seem like we have left the Wild West days behind us yet. I would not put this in the newletter as scammers in crypto is not new news and I think only new news is news :)
It sounds like we should have a scammer subforum. Bitcointalk have a ‘Scam Accusations’ subforum which is not a bad title. They also have their scam forum user trading discussion. I’ve linked their scam subforum in below so we can take notes on how they do it.

Great work Bushstar. I’ll look at that. It is a very complex issue and impossible to get totally right.
We do need systems to prevent stress on moderators but keep members safe the members have discused this before in the forum and that is why we made the Market and escrow.
In recent cases moderators were vigilant and correct, but scammers were quick in operation. Built up false rep before the con, and used Troll box tactics to continue to try to con everyone afterwards.
What most people don’t understand is how easy humans are to fool.

Great idea, but we need to have a very solid platform and criteria for validating.
For example: Having been on eBay since 2000, I know some people are very impatient. Very recently there were major ice storms that stopped all delivery services throughout the US. Some got caught up for weeks, not to mention it was already clogged by holiday shipping. Despite this, tons of people not only left negative feedback, but went on to several forums to call out sellers as scammers as they hadn’t received thier “fill in the blank” item.
Right, well that’s physical shipping which has little to do with virtual currency, unless you are buying a physical item with FTC or something. But the point is people want instant satisfaction and jump at that chance to label people as scammers. They rarely stop to think of the real world and what could possibility happen. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people jump on a forum and say “X” exchange|pool|seller is a scam and it turned out to be nothing later once “X” explained, which wasn’t always immediate.

You can be assured that we will be 100% sure of a scammer before labeling them as such.

I posted a new one in the Staff Discussion thread.

Cheers. Just checked it out earlier.
