Where to store your coins

But seriously, to answer your question:
Exchanges get hacked all the time. The best place to store your coins is on a paper wallet: You can secure that like you would any other important document. Safety deposit boxes work well. It’s trivially simple to create multiple copies for redundancy to eliminate geographical hazards like natural disasters, and it requires no technology beyond a cellphone with a camera to retrieve the coins.
[/quote]I agree completely but I don’t fully grasp the… analogy… XD
hehehe…
But seriously… Don’t keep your coins in exchanges… Learn how wallets work and hold your own. Get in the habit of backing up. Always keep your wallet encrypted.
I’m yet to try out a paper wallet, but that’s what I’ll be doing soon.

If that doesn’t I’m sure this will:

I use all possibilities but most coins are stored on several wallets on my PC/Laptop/Touchpad. I think a wallet on your computer is the safest way. I had never problems with viruses although I have a free anti-vrus program and I also had never data losts so I’m confident in storing my coins on my computer. Additionally I do always a backup, if the amount of my coins have changed a lot.

Paper wallets are the safest, since only a robbery or fire will lead to a loss of your coins, which is less likely than a hacked exchange or crashed hardware.

I currently store my coins in my wallet on my PC. Its encrypted and backed up. I have heard much talk about a paper wallet however I have no idea how to get/create one. Could someone advise me on how this is done or point me in the direction where I can get this information?
Thanks in advance.

Creating paper wallets are extremely easy. It’s so easy it feels very counter intuïtive.
Also paper wallet generators are created and maintained by people. People make mistakes. (Even the experienced programmers ;-))
So making a test paper wallet first is important! So here the steps:
Go to featheraddress.org
Save the page to your desktop or somewhere else. Firefox File->save as. Chrome (control s)
To be sure disconnect your internet.
Open the locally saved page again. Firefox File->open. Chrome (control o)
Move your mouse for randomness
Print the address(es) on the first or second tab.
Towards those adresses you will send your coins. (this to me felt strange, you dont normally sent money to a non-existent bankaccount)
First test it out with a small amount of coins, and then see if you are able to import again !
On the client: help->console, # importprivkey privkeystring “label is optional” (I use a qr scanner app on my phone to get the private key, then send it by mail because could not find a proper free desktop scanner for ubuntu)If this works send the rest of your coins to the different paper wallets, a paper wallet needs to be imported at once so dividing your coins to multiple paper wallets can be wise in case of huge price increases.
Don’t forget to print the wallet first, then send the coins to that wallet. -
Thanks both, I shall give it a try. I take it there is no harm in having the paper wallet in addition to the one saved on my PC?

You can however dump the private-key(s) of your wallet(s) and print that to paper. In that case you have a paper backup of your private key and still have your coins on your client. You are still vulnarable to computerhacking(virsusses, trojans etc…) tough.help->console

Ok, thanks for the clarification.
