Should there be a technical development board?

The only objection I have is that we end up with people not prepared to roll their sleeves up…
I saw it all the last time this was tried…I will do this/that/the other and nothing happened…I have no time for people who talk a lot and do little and tbh I feel it should be more for people who…
- Have the ability. 2) The time. And most importantly 3) The willingness to help.
I don’t want an endless array of threads with how do I get the currency information from the API or how do I install that widget on my site or what’s an an endless array?..This has to be for serious minds and meaningful action!
Hi Mark
That is why the new Tech forum will be heavily moderated, with questions on the tech proposals hived off into the subforum for questions and anything else dumped into the main forum into the appropriate place. I’ll commit to making this happen and will take my lead on what should not be there from contributers like Kevlar, Bushstar, Zerodrama, Ghostlander etc.
Yeah it’s going to need a crack team including mnstrcck as well. I think this could work if it’s administered right. Personally I really like Wikipedia’s Community rules:
1. Be Civil
2. Assume the best in othersEverything else gets removed.

I made this comment here to do with our prioritisation and organisation and felt it was relevant to this topic.

I’d like to get more feedback on my comment above on the rules
This is the Wikipedia Video:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wikipedia_basics_-_Talk_pages.ogvTwo basic guidelines for the Tech Board:
1. Be Civil
2. Assume the best in othersI think this is important so that we get to the real issues.

I’m all for openness, democracy, and avoiding condescension. Things can get moved around, but always with a smile.

Should the CoC apply?

Should the CoC apply?
Yes I think it should, and they should be linked to from a sticky thread. But these two rules should be put in bold text and everyone who takes part needs to have confirmed they have read and understood them. They must also agree that any deviation from them will result in a removed post with some kind of 3 strikes rule. That way nobody can say they weren’t pre-warned.
Shall we get this launched tomorrow? What do you reckon, looks like we have consensus.

I attended the Cryptocurrency Conference in Atlanta this weekend and I spoke to Charles Hoskinson, the creator of BitShares. He explained that Feathercoin has a great community and he would like to add it to BitShares system as an asset class, however, it is not a high enough priority. I suggest our developers reach out to him and Daniel to discuss adding FTC to their system as bitFTC/bitBTC currency pair.
Also, there were many questions about altcoins as a whole in comparison to bitcoin. The comments seemed to be varied. For instance, Stephen Pair of BitPay said they will not add any altcoins to their platform. One other presenter explain that altcoins serves as a prototype for bitcoin. If idea implemented in an altcoin is successful and the bitcoin community agrees it would be helpful to add it to bitcoin, it will be considered. Another comment I heard was a specific altcoin could become bitcoin’s replacement if, bitcoin suffered some drastic fate.
I learned a lot and got a chance to meet some very interesting people. BTW, Feathercoin was featured in last weeks episode of Letstalkbitcoin.com (episode 46, i think). Well that’s all for now.
Could anyone supply me with a list of examples of a well discussed topic on a forum somewhere, either here or on somewhere like Wikipedia so that we can help set the tone?
Also should we appoint special mods just for this forum? If so who?
Yep, that sounds right on. And it looks like we’ve reached a consensus. I’m going to lock voting now.
The point of this is to focus development efforts and solve technical problems in an egoless environment. I don’t think it has to be specifically focused on immediate Feathercoin tasks, but it should at least center around crypto-currencies in general since a problem solved for one coin is potentially a problem solved for every coin.
I’d like to nominate UKMark, aysyr, zerodrama, groll, and ghostlander as mods of the forum. They have demonstrated a consistent technical knowledge and I’m confident they would keep the discussions relevant. Of course they can feel free to un-nominate themselves if they don’t want the position. Does anyone else have any suggestions or +1’s for mods?
(ninja edit to include groll in the list of nominations)

Quick question : Is it still planned to have posts moderated before they go up or will the forum just be heavily moderated?
I’d say start with open posting and heavy moderation, but if that proves ineffective, we can try something else. Anyone else feel strongly about the matter?
-
I agree, start open and review regularly.
I also agree with your list of mods, and if you need heavy artillery, I will provide that.

Boom!
Now be kind and make things.

Did we decide on Moderators…? Also, I think there are certain things from the CoC that should apply?
-
Think half my post responded to an old post on here :/
-
I am going to explore an idea here.
What we want is a cross between a forum and a wiki.
-
This sounds like an interesting idea, I doubt I will post in the section but I’m sure I’ll be browsing alot, I’m a techy at heart but have little knowledge on crypto currency for now.
