13 to 18 year olds having their details on the Feathercoin map for potential FTC exchange

So one of the reasons of the map is to make it to where community members can buy/sell FTC because you’re wanting to distance yourself from exchanges and be less reliant on them.Okay. So the focused means of exchange for the coin I’ve been mining will be person to person.
So where’s the goddamn sense in removing my username and location for safety reasons if that’s how you’re wanting FTC to be exchanged?
Fuck you guys. Seriously.
I’ve got about 1000FTC. It’s not much, but I’m selling it. PM me for offers people, I’m out.
I am sorry you feel that way. There needs to be some formal rules put in place for this project so that people do not get upset when we take under 16s off the map. It would be irresponsible of us to list minors as a potential point of Feathercoin exchange.
Under 16 is arbitrary. 18 is the accepted age of majority. You guys are legally protected by COPPA for anyone over 13.
Cookeville’s a big fucking place so no one’s going to stumble on me without me wanting them to find me, and my rig and means of exchange is in a fucking indie video game storefront where I’ve got my boss and if necessary fucking mall cops. I’m fine.
COPPA is not an International law and we need something that should try to cover everyone. You are right, formal rule should be 18 not 16. Please stop swearing on this forum.

COPPA is not an International law
Because there isn’t one. You want one for my country of origin and how it effects me? That’s what I gave you and I’m older than it. Don’t play a semantics game.

You guys didn’t have such a priority on this when you allowed fleshlights in the marketplace without a content filter. You didn’t have any problem with a cam girl posting on here and my communicating with her. Why the big deal now? The embarrassment of your other failures and wanting to take it out indirectly on the community?
Who’s next for not being on your little map? The disabled? The mute? People who don’t pass an IQ test? People who make you feel uncomfortable? Who?
Please stop swearing on this forum.
Stop giving me reasons to.

Oh boy…
-
Whoa now.
This discussion was about market manipulation and how can we as a community dilute it’s affects. On topic
Person to Person exchange is one way and shouldn’t be a sole focus.
Other exchanges outside of BTC-E. Cryptsy, Mxcnow, Coinmkt, Bter, etc… Find way to bring up their volume in ftc exchange.
Person to Business exchange. Either on-site or webbased plugins.
I personally don’t care if chrisj has my IP address. However, some don’t like that. Though my ip address will show I’m at different locations at different times around my country. That said the discussion about “local feathercoins” should probably be in projects forum with a posty in the main one referencing it. Most people don’t really read the projects forum but should. The reference to person to person exchange was an idea floated out by chris in this conversation.
My 2 cents…

I’m not sure what to say. Does the community have any thoughts on 13 to 18 year olds having their details on the Feathercoin map for potential FTC exchange?
I’m interested in thoughts as I do not personally have experience of this but have what I consider to be valid concerns of safety.
Sorry for the collateral damage, but that really set me off. Things are looking stagnant and I know that has people on some edge. But for it to be discussed as the alternative right after I get a couple of PMs telling me what’s to be done with any of my personal info, it was a real wtf moment.

Might as well start a new topic on it so I don’t keep crapping in jeremiel’s thread.I don’t think we’re given enough credit. I have a localbitcoins.com account for crying out loud.

I split this as new topic, HopeStillFlies has raised some valid points that need to be addressed.
-
I agree this is important and it would be great to hear how others feel about this.
HopeStillFlies, sorry to have offended you.
I didn’t take offense. I’m 1/4 troll so I have some thick skin. ;)
The problem that’s happening right now with feathercoin is we technically had one singular voice with Justabit. One single person managing projects and interacting with members. One person constantly talking about feathercoin everywhere. Now we all must find our voice together as a group. We need to collate our ideas together and move forward. Right, I’m trying to setup a wiki to help with the management so everyone can understand everything we are doing so that issues like this are easily resolved by a mere reference.
I didn’t try this earlier because of the UNOCS thing I felt my voice didn’t matter so why should I even attempt. Well, your voice matters. We should focus on inclusion of as many as possible into our projects. Though the people doing the majority of the heavy lifting for those projects should get final influence.

I think we have got our wires crossed here. @hopestillflies, please forgive us. @Tuneman1980 and I just started the map for fun to see if we could get some meetups and p2p exchanges of Feathercoin going. When I noticed your age on your profile I thought I would check first with you and Ruth if it’s okay; I don’t know anything about law and at the ripe old age of 33 all I know is that I should check first before doing anything.
So I thought I should check first and now it looks like I have caused offence which is hurting me more than I thought it would.
You were not taken off the map, I wanted to make sure it was okay first before you were put on and I have sent emails to other people too checking with them first but it I seems I have screwed things up a bit here. Hell, if you give me your gmail account I’ll give you admin rights to the map itself and you can help us build it. I hate authoritarianism as much as you do!
As for “distancing ourselves from exchanges” it’s worth noting that if Crypto exchanges were regulated the same way as regular markets you would be discriminated against because of your age. Fortunately we do have the technology with things like Bitbargain and Localbitcoins.com that we can have p2p exchanges that can get around this.
I am very sorry to see you go, if that’s the case. I really messed this up and you will be welcome back anytime. If there’s anything I can do to make amends please let me know.

The map only lists city not address. That doesn’t tell you much. Overall its safer than a facebook account with low privacy settings (anyone over 13 can post their full address to facebook). Also, from what I am looking at this map doesn’t actually facilitate any way to meet up in person. I say let him list his city.
It’s the start of an idea. Doing a simple manual proof of concept.
You know who Aaron Swartz was? Was involved in a few projects you may recognize: RSS, Creative Commons, Markdown, web.py, reddit.com, Demand Progress… Do you know how old he was when he did that stuff? He was 13 when he won the ArsDigita Prize. He was 14 he became a member of the working group that authored the RSS 1.0 web syndication specification. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Swartz
Aaron didn’t achieve what he did because he let people tell him “no, you’re too young” and accepted it. In the end he died being a martyr for our rights. He committed suicide at the beginning of this year because he was facing a life sentence for downloading and redistributing works in the public commons. Read all the way down to the JSTOR fiasco for the full details of his battle against government oppression and censorship, and the tragic story of a hero forced to take his life before the age of 30.
You should respect people regardless of their age. Value their contribution. Treat them like any other member of the community.
That doesn’t just apply to 13-18 year old’s either, Bushstar.

As far I can see, the only details listed on the map are the person’s FTC forum nickname and city. Age is irrelevant. HopeStillFlies, minus the profanity, sounds like a fairly well grounded person. I doubt she’d be arranging to meet with user “NotaPedophile” at 11:45pm at the back portion of a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Kevlar +1 - I remember meeting people IRL off of Microsoft Comic Chat/IRC circa 1996/97 when I was a young lad. Met many great people and apparently I’m still here - getting to live to tell the tale. It was nice to be treated as a peer rather than a peeve.
-
I share many similar experiences. Conferences are the bomb.
HopeStillFlies is the exception to the rule however there’s no substitute for safety. The road to Mordor is infested with orcs.
You only need a meeting point, not a house address. Meet at the food court at the mall in full view. Permanent locations with pseudonymous currency? lol.
That’s right, it’s the start of an idea to help get Feathercoin out to a wider range of people. We first started it so that members on the forum could have a tool to arrange their own meetups on the site and then it occurred to us that it would work well for p2p exchanges as well.
If we want Feathercoin to be as distributed as possible do we want exchanges to be the only place where you can buy them? Or do we feel that more options like p2p make it stronger? I wouldn’t say that p2p should be the focus but rather it should be one of a number ways to get hold of them.
This is one of the reasons we are asking for peoples’ locations here:
http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?topic=3674So that we can start to make it easier for people to buy and sell Feathercoins peer to peer. But this is work in progress at the moment.
Local Exchange of coins person to person is an excellent idea, this is what happens with Bitcoin everyday, and where is Bitcoin on the Crypto Spectrum… doesn’t mean you can’t use the Exchanges it’s just another option, and also gets you away from your mining operation and out of the house meeting like minded people. I think it’s a bit extreme to blow off Feathercoin just because they are trying to add another string to the Community Bow…
But that’s just my opinion ;)
