Worldcoin : not a good idea?
-
I’m not sure what the original poster is talking about. but my hypothesis is the litecoins message. the new version is solving it but is not on the download(was the old version at least 2 days ago), but it is in the forum news as a zip.
For me their new coin distribution proposal scheme is more alarming as it make 35% of all coins mine in less then the first 6 months.
That’s definitely a worry. Though once the first 6 months have reached the value of the coin should really go up if people are still using it. Though the value might be 0.000001 btc or put on cryptsy’s secondary market(ltc exchange).
phenixcoin I see’s primary goal is to be a variable token coin for gaming and gambling. I don’t really gamble but I see a huge market there and loads of people gambling sites possibly jumping on it. Heck if it does it right I see the feds coming into regulate it before btc. I respect the purpose and goal.
feathercoin’s primary goal is a universal exchange item. Heck, you could almost call it the world reserve currency replacement. Not a commodity but in between a commodity and a currency. BTC really is a commodity more like gold.
worldcoin?? It’s kind of going towards of the same thing as ftc but I don’t know. Maybe the 50 cent piece towards ftc’s 5 dollar bill? This is forcing me to get off my lazy a$$ and research… damn you. I’ll guess I’ll have to create a real site that evaluates all cryptos so I can understand wdc myself in comparison. Whenever I look at wdc my sphincter tickles and I smell smoke, that’s not a good thing. I can’t put my finger on it. I put wdc in the same boat as cnc and amc even though I like the name.
This isn’t my first rodeo when it comes to partnership deals, however, the point is extremely valid. I’ve always crafted these a bit differently than most people (my background is IT training centers and schools). I worry less about the geek and more about the teams behind the coin… that’s exactly how I approached Feathercoin. When FTC was released, our only difference was 4x the amount of coins. I mean, to some in the community, that should have sunk us.
I met Bushstar, I met UKMark… I knew something special could be created if we rolled up our sleeves and gave up sleep for a few months. It was more about the people involved than the tech differences… we knew we could always make changes later.
I have the exact same feeling when I met the guys from Phenixcoin and Worldcoin. We’re simply going to dominate this space, there really isn’t a doubt in my mind. If there was, I’d be getting far more sleep. :) I should add, both these coins have others services/contacts… but there’s no reason to give away a competitive advantage right now. You guys can hold me to this statement:
Over the next few weeks, much of our competition is going to sit in a daze dumbfounded on what just happened.
My employment background also is IT training and schools with a good portion of vendor/contractor management. All the vendors wanted to say was that “we are partners with you in this.” Now my question wasn’t about the ftc team but theirs. The response seemed a deflection. My concern is wdc not pxc or ftc. Whether I will put my time supporting them. I’m trying to solve my disquiet emotion about wdc with logic through a post wanting to get a logical reasoning but I receive just an emotion based response. Which translates no actual information here so I’ll have to do a real in depth review of them.

" but I receive just an emotion based response."
I make decisions differently than you, it doesn’t mean either is right or wrong. I’ve made my living following a different model. Bushstar, UKMark, Wesphily… all were in the same meeting I attended. There was universal buy-in, I believe we’re making our best guess on the information we were given.
If not, it’s simply mental masturbation at this point. There’s plenty to do with FTC right now which has absolutely no link to partners. As someone that receives absolutely no salary from this venture, I’m investing in my own future. I make the best decisions I can with Feathercoin, we obviously have quite a few members with different points of view. I hope we continue to do the right thing here, it’s been an interesting experiment from day one.
I encourage everyone to do their own research.

This is the best answer. All of you as a group believe in what was said. Now I wasn’t there and rightfully so since I’m just a smaller supporter and forum poster. I’m not betting the farm like you. Do know that I will always be a skeptic. This is nothing against you or even wdc. I’m a skeptic in general now days.

on a lighter note… I hear there is going to be a new alt-coin with a acronym of mmc. It will have 20 billions coins with coin blocks of 1 every 10 secs. ;D
No question of salary ever came up. I have actually defended you on that a few times… As for different points of view? We should have people with different points of view. Now, how people react to differences in opinion shows their character but having everyone of the same opinion can be detrimental for change/adaptability. Change happens through dissent. Dissent is generally just simple disagreements. Nothing more or less. However, psychologically people take it as more… It’s one of the reasons I like the feathercoin community. -
Yup, we’re mostly in agreement. Like i mentioned earlier, agreeing to disagree is perfectly fine… that’s exactly the purpose of these forums. Weekend is here, ready to step away from the glow.

As a miner the association with other coins is thinning the pool of people who actually do the work and pay (bills) to support the currency. I can sort of understand bringing developers on board, from a developers point view. But if they can’t even fix a simple error message in a timely manner, it is reducing the small, but hard earned credibility we have built up for Feathercoin.
While I am going to be lazy and not read any other posts besides this one…
People are already switching to ‘coin switchers’. Mining the most profitable coin at the time. Regardless of partnership or association…
So the ‘thinning the pool’ point is moot.
I do agree however with the fact that ALL litecoin clones had the ‘upgrade’ message and most haven’t bothered to fix… but then again I run a mac, and don’t bother updating much at all… so maybe just disregard the shit coming out of my mouth… fingers
Essentially, everything is a bit of clone of everything else. The catch is with time the clone or child of something has to distinguish itself. Right now there are dozens of altcoins that are slowly distinguishing themselves from litecoin and their others. Quick software corrections are a way that ftc does it. A good question is “how long is this leeway time before a coin is just considered a copy?” Does an alt-coin need a month to get it’s footing for base support? 3 to 6 months before trying other things? What’s ftc’s birthday and pxc’s birthday?

“Right now there are dozens of altcoins that are slowly distinguishing themselves from litecoin and their others”
Maybe in this really small specialized market, but not to anyone that’s not a complete crypto currency fan. I’m okay with that, without the proper resources to hand a coin to USD exchange, they’ll be spinning their wheels for quite some time.
“how long is this leeway time before a coin is just considered a copy?”
As many of you probably remember, this exact question was dominant with Linux in the mid 90s. Some coins will be destined to end up a specialize niche items. Great, it solves an issue. Others will fight for a larger general market share.
As for your other questions, I believe it’s only important between crypto fans. The rest of the world won’t care and will look toward a financial solution that safe, quick, highly available, easy to manage, superior customer support and offers some type of incentives. Ask your friends, “What would you use WU over moneygram”.
So let me get this straight? Everything I say on here has to deal with “mom and pop?” no other discussions matter? If you are on this forum you are technically a crypto currency fan. That is the purpose of these forums or is just marketing? Mom and pop are not going login to an internet forum to talk about their money.
My statement is a generalized statement to all cryptos. They are all distinguishing themselves slowly. This goes for our beloved ftc. This is not a bad thing but it is a truth. FTC has been out what 3 months? The work the guys have been doing is awesome but a start. With that said it’s still in the clone stage, litecoin’s baby. Zero and bush will definitely give it a separate identity from the others. The zerocoin idea could push it as separate. The possibility of jane scrypt could also do it. Each of these ideas take time to implement. Until these ideas go from concept to implementation they are just ideas not reality. Don’t sell me. I already bought and I’m allowed to kick the tires.
I have “hope” that ftc will be different from other cryptos. I know that it’s differences from litecoin update messages removed, checkpoints, quick devs, and a positive community. These are it’s current definable differences from other alts. Future items don’t count until implemented. A cryptocoin at it’s simplest is software.
How about luckycoin? nothing there… maybe somebody will adopt it again. Other names like fastcoin, bitgem, alphacoin, megacoin, anoncoin, argentum, etc … I don’t know any of these. Maybe a website with a client download that changes coin amount and block size from litecoin. In two months who knows(probably nothing but always the chance).

Please, please, please, read what is being said. Even if “your” partnership does work and I’m not criticizing you for being enthusiastic or doing the partnership as such.
At the moment that is your project and is going against a lot of the reasons I joined Feathercoin. i.e. miriad confusing alt coins, scam coins, no mining or forum support and no long term development strategy .
I am also completely against gambling. I know of more than one person who is addicted to it and whilst Feathcoin might be used for gambling I am not happy that we now (seem to be) promoting gambling as a way forward for the currency …
I am extremely not happy that the answer wasn’t something along the lines of “I’ll get in touch with worldcoin and the error will be fixed within the hour, even if we have to do it for them”

From a few minutes of searching, I show Worldcoin released a patch to address the nag screen on June 30th with version 6.3.1.

I respect your opinion about gambling, obviously I don’t feel the same. The minute you start trying to control how adults spend their resources, personally, I have an issue. Not interested in debating it, I’m simply stating we see the world differently. The beautiful thing about Feathercoin is we CAN disagree. You can attach to projects that you feel are important.
-
You can keep saying ‘your partnership’ but it doesn’t change the fact that the coin developer as well as other members of the community are on-board. Hundreds of different opinions, we hope everyone can find an area they support.
-
Feel free to take Feathercoin in other directions. If you want to start a non-gambling initiative, it simply takes a voice and few people to support it.
-
I appreciate the comment on the enthusiasm
-
Major deadlines are due on Monday, I’ll try to keep an eye on this thread if I can find a few minutes.

Please, please, please, read what is being said. Even if “your” partnership does work and I’m not criticizing you for being enthusiastic or doing the partnership as such.At the moment that is your project and is going against a lot of the reasons I joined Feathercoin. i.e. miriad confusing alt coins, scam coins, no mining or forum support and no long term development strategy .

The beautiful thing about Feathercoin is we CAN disagree. You can attach to projects that you feel are important.
What I got from this post is if you disagree with justabit you can suck it.

Justabitoftime is not alone in his stance. I have a completely different mind set, background, experience, and come from a completely different age generation. I thought this partnership was the best thing for Feathercoin and the respective coins before we even had meetings about it. The meetings we have had between the coins have only solidified this.We are going to be doing things that no other coin has done (bitcoin included) and, it is only possible because of this partnership. I understand how you all are currently measuring coins because it is how coins have always been measured. This partnership is going to change that.

I appreciate your response wesphily. My reaction isn’t really about the reasoning of the partnership per say but more about the response when asked about it. When someone gives me marketing speak when I ask for an answer about it on a particular partner it causes me to question more. Saying “trust me” is a wrong answer. Heck saying “I thought this partnership was the best thing for Feathercoin and the respective coins” I can respect and accept. Though, I don’t like someone trying to hype me on something like it’s amway. I’m not mom and pop and I don’t need a slide show to talk about how great my life will be in several years. The need to make crypto invisible to the end user I get but that’s not the discussion we were having that’s deflection. I would have respected responses more if it was something like
“We are working with partnerships on many aspects in regards to crypto-coins. These partnerships have just started but as time goes on will have more interactions with websites, exchanges, and businesses. I can not really give specifics on some items right now in regards to worldcoin. Though you can join this project or that project if you want more understanding of whats going on. I hear your concerns and we are helping them as they are helping us. This partnership is still new. I know it’s not what you might want to hear right now but it’s what I can give you.”
this I can respect. Yes there is a little market speak but I’m not treated to emotional pulling about my investment in time. Also, I’m a person who can accept if someone doesn’t have an answer for me. When I invest time into something I do it for an intrinsic reward and that it’s the right thing to do. Yes I’d like an external one but I like doing things that better people around me. If I feel like I’m being used then that intrinsic value goes away and questions start to set in.
BTW, westphilly I’ve never felt like that when you’ve answered questions. So thank you.

Simply let this partnership develop - at this point nothing else makes sense - time will tell us all what it is good for.
