I have two computers mining: Home computer is mining randomly and another second hand computer is dedicated only for mining. I use GUI-Miner Scrypt with basic settings that it offers for my cards and MSI afterburner to control GPU core temp between 70-80c and Teamviewer to connect to computers by laptop and if needed also by Android phone. Below are specs for computers:
Mining dedicated computer (located another place in a cool basement):
Intel C2D E6400
Asus P5B Deluxe
2GB RAM
ASUS HD6970
XFX HD5770Home computer (mining when not used for other things):
Phenom II X4 965
Asus M4A785TD-V EVO
4 GB RAM
Sapphire HD5970 (lucky to buy this second hand card for 40€ to replace my old 8500GT :) )And here is picture of my home computer with HD5970. Another picture can’t have, cause second computer is not here, but nothing special to see on that other. It’s a normal black ATX case with side open to make it run a little cooler.

I have been mining mostly on give-me-ftc pool and as an alternative on fcpool. Here is screenshot of GMFTC graph page as a ticket proof.
Graph page say ltc, but it’s from their ftc pool… You can see pool’s ftc address on bottom of the picture. -

Not exactly a way of reducing a computer heat, but I say room temp play really big part in here. Find and use really cool location out of your hot apartment. I use place where I only cost electric and my friend’s basement gain the free heat. No extra fans or cooling needed, so this way also reduce total electric consumption for mining. It’s easy to connect anywhere with Teamviewer.
And the biggest bonus in this! When rig is away from your home, wife wont complain of your mining hobby and “home turning to be a factory”… so kind of I can say this is a way of reducing heat [2 tickets] ;)

This is one of my smaller rigs that is going for an upgrade in the next week or so.

Good way to reduce heat is having an open case and good air flow and fans good amount of in take for blowing air in as well as having out take fans to get rid of heat.
Also other ways is to have a well vented room or have in a cold place. Or you could go one step above and use water cooing to reduce heat and noise and this is something am tempted to do on my next system build for a custom modded case with water cooing custom made. -
Number 1.
Here’s my ‘rig’. Not exactly a great setup but it’s the best I can get.
I have, in my pc:
Sapphire 7770 Radeon
Intel i5-3550
2x1TB WD Black Hard Drives
8GB Ram
Asrock Extreme4 Z77 Mobo
4xDVD writers (used for ripping cds :P )
500w Silverstone Strider PSU (hoping to upgrade soon)
Cooler Master Elite 355u or somethingThe computer is also used so mining does not run continuously. However I managed to get the 7770 cheap at £85 with a free gaming mouse so it was quite a good deal. I get about 150kh/s. The stock clocks are 1000mhz on the core and 1125mhz on the memory but I’ve changed those to 965mhz and 1360mhz to get a good ratio for mining.
I could probably push the card further but I don’t want to stress my PSU to badly as its only a cheap model and I’m not sure it could handle a larger overclock, really. I’d also love to get a better graphics card but again the PSU is the bottleneck. When I’ve upgraded that to an 800w model I’m hoping to get a 6950 or 6970 as they are rather cheap (around £100 if you can get a good deal on eBay) and are still good and capable for mining. I’ve already got about 120 FTC (I know its not much but I’m happy with it) from mining and are getting around 5-6 more coins per day.

Number 2 & 3 (makes sense to put in one post)

There’s my guiminer-scrypt settings. I find the interface more helpful to use than cgminer which gets annoying when I want to stop mining for just a short time.
I’ve had to restart the miner (and pc) a few times since I started mining so the accepted shares aren’t as high as they should be but I think its enough proof to show I’ve been mining for 200hrs =)

My rig consists of4x Gigabyte 7950 GPU’s, installed with arctic accelero 7970 coolers.
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3
PSU: Corsair AX 1200W
GPU: AMD Sempron 145 Processor ( cheapest one I could find )
Ram: 10GB
Hashrate: 2400 khash/s, which is perfectly normal. All GPU’s are installed with risers, temps on the GPU’s are maximum 70 celsius usually :) Has never crossed over 73 celsius. This is however with the fan on ( good to just buy the cheapest 30cm fan and put it next to your rig if you have an open rig ).
This rig is my first and has been somewhat really expensive. I would advice people to buy their components used, especially older graphic cards like 6970 and 6950 may be quite cheap and give a decent hash power.
Hi there!
I was wondering something. I copied the motherboard model info you posted and put it into the search window at New Egg. The board that comes up only has two PCI 2.0 slots. Are you running some sort of a splitter bus cable? I didn’t know you could do that, but, then again, I haven’t built a computer in probably ten years, so I’m a bit out of date (aka a dinosaur). BTW, nice rig! It looks like you took care to build it nice and sturdy. I’m going to rip off your idea of the wooden frame for my setup!
Thanks!

My 2 rigs are almost identical.
I had one computer that was falling out of usefullness, and the second i purchase used from forums. As far as i know I’m all out of spots for cards. Even if i could add more cards, i need a bigger power supply.
Rig 1
XFX 780i nforce
Core 2 2.6GHz
4GB Corsair Dominator
MSI 6950/70 unlocked voltage and shaders 490k/h
HIS 6950/70 unlocked voltage and shaders 490k/h
Saphire 6950/70 unlocked voltage and shaders 490k/hRig 2
EVGA 780I FTW
Core 2 Quad 2.3
4GB Corsair Dominator
XFX 6950/70 unlocked voltage and shaders 490k/h
MSI 6950/70 unlocked voltage and shaders 490k/h
XFX 6950/70 unlocked voltage and shaders 490k/hHeat: I had to move the middle cards on both rigs out of the case. I used 2 pcie extensions, 1 each, and zip ties to hold up the card. ??? Just helps keep the sandwich of heat down.

These screenshots should prove, that I’ve been mining Feathers at least from June 17 to June 28 :)

Item 1:
Currently I don’t have pictures of my mining-rig, since it is also not very special. I am mining with an old Pentium 4, 2GB RAM and 1TB hdd. I use a HD 5850 which is getting me around 310kh/s 24/7. My rig is very stable and it located in the server room at my work. There it’s being cooled with AC. My rigs 5850 is stable around 74 degrees celcius.

Item 3:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://pool.d2.cc:3333 -u sheepson.1 -p x --worksize 256 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 5824 -g 1 --intensity 19
This is my cgminer .bat file which is getting my 310 kh/s on a HD5850 (out of the box) nothing changed.
-
Item 4:
My way of reducing heat is pretty unfair since my rig is located in the server room which is cooled by Airco!
Although, other ways of cooling your rigs are placing fans and create a good airflow.
-
Item 5:
I’m sure a helped a new miner somewhere :) hehe.

Configuration of cgminer to achieve 2.5MHash/s with 4-7950 graphic cards
coin123.org for more details
Question1: How can I get my first Feathercoin mining rig?
Answer: I am not sure which configuration of a mining rig is the most efficient, but I designed my own mining rig with $1,700 to achieve a computing speed of 2.6MHash/s. My first mining rig is made up of 4 Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7950. The detail list of the rig is list below for your reference:
Rig list:
Graphical card: Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7950 OC with Boost 3 GB DDR5 DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 11196-09-40G

Hard Drive: WD Blue 500 GB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 5400 RPM, SATA II, 8 MB Cache - WD5000BPVTQuestion2: What is the best configuration of cgminer to achieve 2.5MHash/s?
I list the screens of cgminer configuration file and running speed of my rig. If you set the same configuration with mine then the temperatures of the four cards are lower than 70, without the Lasko fan as depicted above.
Question3: What is performance of rig in a pool?

Here is the RaspberryPi 256MB Model B (first gen) having a single core ARM processor that is use to mine FTC. Using pooler’s minerd, and overclocking the CPU to 900MHz(stock is 700MHz) This little fellow is able to get 430Hash/s. Unfortunately, the pretty powerful GPU is not able to use for mining. it draws about 4W from a USB wall plug. Just a microusb for power and a Ethernet cable for internet and SSH access. Runs headless.
If the USB wall plug is higher rated, eg. 2A 5V, this little fellow is able to overclocked to 1GHz, this will give a hashrate of 500 hash/s.

Even though the raspberryPi is using a cool Arm processor(single core), It does get pretty hot when mining 24/7 (>60C), so added some heatsink compound(the white paste on the CPU) to the CPU, this improves the heat transfer by reducing air pockets between the heatsink and the cpu surface. added a “large” passive heatsink to it. Temp is about 53C without any active cooling.
