How many feathercoins have been premined?
Feathercoin had to start with a difficulty of 0. Just as LTC did as well. The fact is that many many times more people were mining and knew about crypto currencies than when LTC launched. Sure the big miners will clean up in this situation and take a lot of the initial coins. It’s not a pre-mine, it’s a fact of life. Live with it and carry on either advancing crypto currencies or trading for profit (whatever your motivation is). But seriously, listening to the trolls and the negative people at BTC-e helps no currencies at all it just drags us all down.
Actually Bitcoin started at a high difficulty. Bushstar didn’t expect this much attention.

You could have just built a community around litecoin, the coin you copied. That would have been an incredibly honorable move everybody would have appreciated.

Bullshit. When we tried to build a community, the Litecoin devs literally stole it. They don’t want participation. They want a plantation. If you’re going to argue about coins, you should know the history. We tried building a hot community where people could contribute. You know what happened? The lead developers created their own forum and cut us off. It is impossible to contribute in the litecoin and bitcoin communities. The developers don’t give a damn, the miners don’t want to build anything, the forum visitors argue all day about conspiracies, the moderators think they are God.
We had an in forum market from day one and the litecoin developers declared their CLOSED forum to be the OFFICIAL forum. They ruined their own chance to shine. Who the hell wants to wait for them to wake up to the needs of the average person? Oh yeah, maybe 20 years from now.

Every person in this community is valued by the community, be it the Developers, the Artists, the Musicians, the Marketers, the PR, the Pool Operators, the Miners, the ones that go out of their way to help others out & write tutorials or gather information regarding exchanges and further adoption, the ones who do continued research into ways to better and strengthen our community even further, hell even the ones who beat down the narrow minded rhetorical trolls are… We are a community, we are one.
FEAR THE FEATHER
-
IMHO, the current single biggest difference between FTC and LTC, other than the community, is the “limited slip differential” of a maximum 41.4% change in difficulty at retarget time, coupled with shorter retarget intervals.
I find it difficult to see how FTC is considered a straight copy of LTC, when we have introduced changes to fix problems not experienced by LTC, as it was started at a time when there was much less awareness of cryptocurrencies and hence less chance of wild swings in difficulty.
LTC has also failed to let their community know whether they are looking at options to make the system more robust in the face of attacks, such as 51% attacks. They may be, but have not communicated this. The FTC developers have been making it very clear that this is one of their priorities and are keeping the community up to date with what’s happening.
We should lay the myth that FTC == LTC-Hashrate to rest.
FTC != LTC

Not everyone would have appreciated that, the bitcoin folk would still have sand in there collective vagina’s, a chuck of the current litcoin community and hell every other alt coin also would be sore from sand itch, no matter what you do in this life or how good it is, some people will still complain.
Your need to answer the question why a create a new coin leads me to believe you don’t fully understand its benefits.
Lets explain that with an example.
The Ford Model T, a car, one of the first mass produced cars.
Now if car manufacturers didn’t create new models (or copies with changes) of the Ford Model T, everyone would still be driving the Ford Model T today.Copying a coin and changing it here and there, its digital evolution.

For starters I am not even sure what timezone Bitcointalk uses now, let alone back then, as if I remember correctly the server locations (IP’s) were changed around the beginning of May.
TBH Forum time has never been my preferred choice for time reference, I much prefer to set my watch by UTC as does the Feathercoin blockchain. ::)

I don’t know if the original poster is even going to reply now (or if we scared him off), but here’s what I think - for the record.
A lot of us are new to cryptocurrency, like me. I thought it was awesome. But when I looked at the Bitcoin and Litecoin communities (actually I had difficulty ever finding a Litecoin community!), I found them very selfish, greedy, and unhelpful. They seemed to have the attitude “Don’t talk unless you’re already rich in Bitcoins and have a cool rig.”
Maybe they’re nicer than that. But that wasn’t my experience.
I’m here because the Feathercoin people are nice and helped me get going. Right now, you have be a pretty smart techie to get started mining, especially if you don’t have fancy hardware. Over here, they made it simple to understand and they always respond quickly and positively.
People like me believe in an open source world. We want an open source currency. Bitcoin and Litecoin have become something for “the elite.” (super fancy hardware, expensive prices to buy in, etc) We younger people don’t like that. We want something for everyone, even after all the coins have gone into distribution.
FTC has a free, open, and helpful future because the developers believe the same way.
That’s actually a really good point. I was new too, trying to determine what ltc pool to mine on, still plodding around bitcoin faucets, gave up trying to mine bitcoin pretty quick, seemed there was too much info and not enough guidance.
I had no idea what cgminer was nor did I really care, I was still trying to work out what it was all about. And there I got stuck reading the bitcoin talk forums.
And by chance I saw the feathercoin thread when it first appeared. And as I was reading, I still had no idea. Why would I stop mining ltc, I thought, and get on this new thing… there seemed so many other new coins, floating around… but just for the sake of it, I decided to download the client and read.
read, read, read.
As there was a growing interest, it seemed to be right. so I learnt how to configure cgminer, and looking back now, it’s funny how I didn’t even realise that I was learning more about crypto currencies than I’d ever thought I would. Not because I intended to, but because I got involved in FTC and with everyone else who was drawn to it, was compelled to do as much as possible.
For some reason, it didn’t strike me as a gimmick, even though I thought I was still just doing it for the sake of it.
Over time, I found myself not just interested in how it works, but seeing it succeed. And then BAM, the community exploded with support, devs, leaders, people engaged full time in doing what they could.
And that’s when I saw all of the haters crawl out of the woodwork. Ahh the jealousy was palpable.
So while I can’t personally offer much more than contributing to the network hashing, I feel as if at least I’ve been supporting it from the start. I can’t code, draw, persuade or sell anything… But regardless, whether we fly or get plucked, I feel committed to the end.
And I know we’ll succeed. The ddossing proved to me beyond a doubt that we can handle a shit storm. The feather will weather.
So, when I see someone come along and say “Well what is good about it?” all I hear is “What is good about it for *me*” and I know that people will, selfishly, only be interested in what they can get for free. Even if it’s nothing more than the glib joy from denigrating something they’re not even slightly interested in.
Hell, google Feathercoin. It was not long ago, you got google trying to fix the obvious spelling mistake for you. Now you see a different story.
I’ve learnt more about this whole thing by being involved with this coin. Even if I never made a real life dollar in all of that time, I’ve taken something good and unique from the experience. Wishy washy? Ha. It’s a lot better than being someone full of seething anger and hate who can’t wait to find fault and kick kittens in a rage. :)
This community alone, is worth the time and effort. Just look around. If you can’t see that, it’s because you’re not interested in looking.
I do reply, but I cannot comment on every post. It sounds very reasonable what all of you say, but I still think that’s not the way to go. Videos, radio interviews, all kind of advertisment for a crypto currency is just too much. It might work for goods, but not for a currency. Feathercoin looks more like a marketing ploy to most people. If you succeed - well done. If not - told ya. ;)
It’s as easy to mine litecoins as feathercoins. The difference is that some bitcoin and litecoin miners see new miners as rivals. The coins you mine are the coins they lose. New feathercoin miners are not yet competitors, because they do not “steal” coins from others, but secure them by making attacks more difficult. That attitude will change as soon as feathercoin managed to survive… be sure. :)

I don’t understand how it’s ‘fun’ to jump on a site you don’t support and spit venom all day. As long as you stay within the code of conduct, you’re free to do what you want. I’m just thinking ‘wow, what would it be like to spend my day against something’. Just an observation, everyone is entitled to their version of fun. It’s like walking into Toyota and talking about how Ford sucks all day. :)

Actually, he’s been quite civil in my opinion. He seems interested in the project.
Perhaps advertising a currency is going a little too far. At least we’re having fun. And he wants to have fun, too. So we should just keep encouraging the poor guy to jump in and throw his weight in with the rest of us.

I don’t think anyone really knows the answer to the OP. I like to think none, but the dev has to keep some back to gift to the community surely?
Actually we do know the answer to this, but certain people choose to ignore basic knowledge of both blockchain facts, conception of time and that of the basic English language, Premined Pre meaning by definition: before in time, rank, order, position, Ie: NOT AFTER - public announcement.
The first block was mined after public announcement = It was not premined. Whether it was 1 second, minute or hour after public announcement is irrelevant, unless people are really looking to split hairs and in that case your closing statement has more than been proven to be the case, to me anyway.
I feel the OP has now had his question answered in full, so I’m now going to pull the Mod card and lock this thread down, should any substantial evidence come to light to dismiss the OP’s answer above, then please feel free to start another thread, preferably stating all evidential facts and not just troll box hearsay. 8)

Just one further post to add that all future versions of the Premine Question will be answered as follows:
