Chat Box

I just thought of this. Do we want a chat box above all the forums on the main page?
This could be a good place to field quick questions without having to start or join a thread.
Let me know what you think, we should not be too put off by the state of the BTC-e trollbox.

Based on the maturity of this community it could and should work.
But if it’s slowly becoming a Trollbox 2.0 then we should remove it.

Also could we set up a web of trust like http://bitcoin-otc.com so that we can buy and sell from each other?

I think we should have, for this is a fastest way to communicate with each other.
suggestion, if you agree :) , please don’t put it at main page so that it will not affect the loading speed when we are entering the site. instead put it beside “UNREAD”. Thanks ;)

Seems like a good idea to me.
I know there are other forums that I’ve used in the past where there was a resizable chat-box above the main forums that allowed people to chat while logged in. Some people used it more than the forums lol
But definitely moderated I’d suggest, with access granted to verified members, rather than an open chat which I think could and would be open for trolling.
I’d actually thought about it before, but never thought to suggest it.

How about something like litecoinpool have (irc channel built in to web browser).
Then everybody can chat with eachother eiter in public or person to person.Have a couple of Bots to controll some trolling phenomenon, able to use kick/ban on bad behaving trolls and so on.

I think this is a great idea, but you all are right, realistically we will need troll control…

[/quote]And if so inclined, if it’s an IRC server based chat, people can connect using their favourite IRC client. Which I always prefer over web based things.
In the IRC realm too, you can have actual Ops and Bots.
There is as much involvement with a dedicated IRC channel as there is with forums, I can’t see that being a bad thing to engage in at all.
Perhaps rather than a run of the mill irc server, someone can look at a decent irc network. Just not dalnet please not dalnet… Oo

[/quote]I think that would be a great idea. We could even have a separate page dedicated to chat. I think chat is a great way for the community to instantly connect and solve problems in a more real time way.

I am going to get the styling on the forum tidied by Ben Hohner the chap who has done such excellent work on the rest of the site. There are a few quirks in the current style and Ben can bring it more inline with the work he has done elsewhere. Ben is a good chap who has refused to give out the source code to anyone else who has approached him :)
When he is working on the style I will get him to look at implementing and styling the chat/shout box. If it gets busy then I’m sure there will be people who will be happy to moderate it and if not we can always pull it down if it gets out of hand.

I like the idea of this, that way we dont have to see the trolls :) But would need moderation in case any turned up.
