RE: A Mining Rig that heats your home
well in order to do this you would have to build a monster rig just in consideration of the volume of water involved. Probably a couple hundred gpu system minimum just to preheat the water enough so the main heating system would work less but it would not be very efficient. You could perhaps use a mining rig to heat water for tropical fish but you would have to find the magic size to keep the water at the right temp

that is always what has both frustrated me while amazing me at the same time. bitcoin and the resulting altcoins both have given people the ability to live out from underneath the thumb of governments and banks in general. Instead of embracing this most people are just concerned with profitability as it relates to fiat. Further, when it comes to trading and etc., people are too quick to give away the freedom that they have by giving banking information in order to be “verified”. To me this is the epitome of stupidity. Instead i would prefer simply to be able to use my coins to purchase things directly and from a distance. The first coin to solve this issue of purchasing power + anonymity will basically win the battle in its entirety. That is why i liked feathercoin to start with. it is the people involved with this community and their passion which if properly directed could conceivably achieve this goal. The problem is all communities start out with the best of intentions but eventually they lose their drive or their drive becomes misdirected. This one so far is leading all others based solely upon the implementation of ideas. That one fact makes it exciting and i hope to see more. In the meantime i would like to see more details about this alliance of coins because as of this moment just going upon the statement of 51% attack mitigation, i do not feel that is enough of a reason.
what an “interesting” pile of arguments. Lets talk about the reality of crypto in general. Bitcoin - wonderful idea but more concentration was put on coming up with faster ways to mine it than ways to use it. Litecoin- better implementation of the original idea of crypto but again very little concentration on actually being able to buy something with it. (before you get your panties in a bunch think from the viewpoint of John Q Public) further similarity between these 2 is their communities. both started out great with ideas and etc but then quickly turned into a troll playground with stagnation of purpose.
I hold all coins. I lost my BTC wallet awhile back and was in some seriously shitty circumstances and asked this community for help. Exactly one person donated 100 btc which allowed me to basically continue to survive. To this person I sent back 1500 BTC immediately upon locating the proper USB stick. This one person who shall remain nameless demonstrated that there is still a potential for an actual community.
Community is the thing i like most about feathercoin. People talk about fair launches and pre-mining and all that other nonsense. the reality is those that are in the know are always more successful than those that are not. That applies to everything in life.
Feathercoin is promising not because of what has been done with it but because of what is going to be done with it. Most people currently on this forum and others were not around for the beginning of bitcoin. It is easy to determine those that were not because they say things like “has no value” and etc. bitcoin had no value and the people who believed in it did so not because of some value based upon fiat but based upon the idea of crypto in general. If it were not for those of us who saw the potential none of these other coins would exist and bitcoin itself would no longer exist.
So before you sit there at your keyboard and argue with eachother about which coin is better think upon the fact that they all have the potential to change the world. Stop basing your arguments upon fiat value as fiat is the largest “scam coin” ever devised by man.
I cannot really form an opinion based upon this partnership announcement because i do not have enough information but if a partnership is done correctly with the proper motivation it could be huge. Here is hoping the motivation is proper.
RE: The attack is over and we can thank automatic coin choice pools
Ok so there was an attack. That is to be expected. What i did not expect was my dogs to stop my mining while i was at a graduation party and buying a house. We will get through it just as we got through the abysmally high difficulty. I am not worried and I will continue to mine even though my pool currently is charging an outrageous fee.
if you happen to run the pool that I mine on. First off I love your pool. Second smack yourself. Seriously, high five yourself in the face. I have been paying a fee already and donating some extra if your “hot wallet” could not handle the abuse after all the fees that you have already collected as well as the donations (there are many donators) then you are doing it wrong. We both know that at some point you must have oversold your FTC which is what put you in the situation you are in the first place. Put the fee back to what it was and stop your nonsense.
Now that I have gotten that off my chest. Back to the subject at hand. Forking the chain is and always has been a bad idea. Do not do it. Attacks are to be expected and there is very little that can be done. That is the reality. It all sorts itself out eventually. FTC is still an infant and you do not choke a baby because it filled its diaper.

RE: What does feathercoin offer people?
Well hello there smoothie. I cannot lay my finger on exactly why i like this coin so much or the community so much but perhaps this is more of a CoinMunity. I was pleasantly surprised to find devs who actually give a crap about that which they created and implement community ideas into the code. Up until this coin that was mostly unheard of.

That is excellent news! The more concentration that is put upon market integration and actual uses for ftc the better.

RE: Difficulty Discussion - Fork Update - Bushstar
Ok we can solve this issue. 504 blocks make a soft re-target 10-30% and a hard re-target for whatever it needs to be every 8064 blocks. My reasoning is this bitcoin and the magical 2016 block diff target was based upon a block being generated every 10 minutes ish. This coin is 4x that so it needs to both retarget faster and slower. Faster to avoid super long confirmations (no confirmation=no transactions = dead coin) and slower to reflect the long term sampling. The faster would be a soft re-target in other words not a full difficulty change but a percentage of target difficulty this would even out the initial hoppers hash fluctuation (what we are seeing right now) and help to ensure that the network can still handle transactions in a timely manner. Somehow in my head I have this picture of a nice calm beach and waves coming in nice and peaceful like as opposed to building your sand castle just in time to notice the tide has gone waaaaaaay out and here comes a 50 story wave to ruin your day.
I think it could be done with an update patch of sorts like they did with the bitcoin client a little ways back. Just my .02 ftc.
if i have entertained you helped you or etc donate your hashing power to a pool of your choice and let get through this!

Heya Folks!
Finally got around to joining the forum.
