How often do you really need to brush your teeth?

When people enter a coin managed by nice and smart people such as Feathercoin team, the expectation is that something is being done about the rampant market manipulation. Something more than just “here you go, another alt for the biggest player to pump and dump”. As for Dogecoin, it actively abuses the inability of some people to do big numbers math. But Feathercoin was never intended as scam. If nothing is done against pumps and dumps, their amplitude will increase, not decrease with time.

The way he put it didn’t sound like he understood it. And he confused me, too, I must admit. Thanks for your clarification. The doubts about the longest chain rule were the most disconcerting part of the article.

It is very interesting that you brought up “ego” here (I’m using the quotes as I do not want to play an amateur psychologist and I’m not sure about the correct meaning of the term). I think that in Satoshi’s case, there was an element of trying to save the world, but such an altruistic act is by no means “ego-less”, as it acts likely through narcissistic personality inventory, which is considered egotist. It is interesting how poorly I understand this. On one hand, narcissistic traits are connected with altruistic behavior such as saving the world. I might have been diagnosed with those traits by my peers (though they never told me directly). On the other hand these people sometimes have their sense of self-worth increased so much, that they justify any selfish act with it and they cause great damage to the society around them. This topic interests me very much recently, as I have had intense personal encounters with such people.

Feathercoin is not stable at all. It is controlled by a single pump and dump entity. Instead of deflationary increase, that would attract investors, the price follows the curve of sudden jump and long decrease, which deters holding (if you fear it going dowwn) as well as trading (if you expect pump).

why is there a bitcoin currency symbol in the bubbles? It is confusing, one doesn’t know whether the number is in feathercoins, or converted to bitcoins…

I don’t think much of it. These are the kinds of papers that use computational models to state the obvious, just to support what common sense gives to every sane thinker. But it is good that NASA subscribed to the alarm bell that was earlier already sounded by Oxford FHI.

Indeed, because the decision to buy a good with feathercoin is tied with the investment decision. Consider the BTC pizzas. I’m just a guy at a keyboard but I really think paying in BTC has proven it gets the job done. Who here would be willing to sacrifice the equivalent of $700 USD worth of ftc to get a GPU miner for Neo developed? Certainly not me as thats all the ftc I hold… and It cost me alot more than $700 USD to acquire it.

One thing is true, that now it is not time to get rid of one’s FTC. But we’ll have to take care of the volatility to make people more willing to use it as money, which is it’s intended use. Right now, it’s an investment asset.
