So far I like feathercoin. I love the security aspect of it, and I also think that adding a small degree of centralization will make it more appealing to people and governments.
There’s nothing good that can possibly come of any amount of centralization. Any perceived advantage is an illusion, and a dangerous one at that.
But I’m interested in your reasoning. Why do you think single points of failure are more attractive to people and governments? Is it because it makes it easier to subvert the intentions of the majority? Why is having a benevolent dictator for life a better model than distributed consensus in a trust-less environment? Centralization is about consolidating power, so why should people choose a coin that has been stripped of it’s enabling features and leaves them powerless? What exactly is the argument being made here?
Isnt the point of the checkpointing feature supposed to prevent from a 51% attack? please correct me if im wrong, but right now this is centralized and in time will become decentralized as things progress.
As for people giving up liberty for security, unless you’re an anarchist you do this in the real world. Personally im a libertarian so i believe that there is a very small amount necessary for the security of everyone but a small amount is just that a very small amount. What ive heard so far appeals to me, its not centralized holding, its not centralized computing, its a centralized check and balance system that is planned to become decentralized as things progress

RE: Why feathercoin?
I know to a lot of you this idea sounds rediculous, but this is already happening for other coins, i know so many people that bought btc, and converted it into ltc, and doge because there were specific things that they wanted.

This is a natural and could also be a giant marketplace…When people trust the currency they will also more broadly accept it as payment. Most people also in the crypto community still prefers fiat and that has to change.
This is exactly the problem that i’m trying to fix. Nobody else is going to trust in our currency if we don’t fully trust in our currency. I’m not saying give up every other currency and only use feathercoin. I’m saying that if you want this to work then you have to be willing to put some blood, sweat, tears, and money into this. You cant just half ass it and expect it to work.

What I suggest is introduce a payment system called featherpay or feathervisa where the advertiser can list a module or script in the advertisement stating that they also take feathercoins and the amount of feathercoins needed to purchase the goods, you may have todo this in conjunction with 1 or 2 other coins because the market is still in it’s infancy.
I can’t tell if you didn’t read the entire thread, or just don’t understand basic economics? The entire point of what i was saying was to get people to invest in feathercoin. If there are multiple options than this kills the whole idea. If i have the option to pay in doge, ftc, ltc, and btc, wht is making me want to bu in ftc?
Now don’t get me wrong i do think that we should be involved with these multi-coin wallets as well, but even more than that we need people to want to invest in feathercoin, and the only way to do that is to give them things that they want to buy.

The word WE also includes YOU, so don’t be shy and go ahead…
Don’t be so aversive to criticism, that’s exactly what this community doesn’t need. I plan on doing just that, but since i noticed this problem in the first place, i figured id share the idea with everyone as well.

What sorts of items would you be interested in buying in the marketplace?
In general the market seems to consist mainly of peoples leftovers and overpriced goods. Now we can sit here and grease our egos and pretend that what we currently have is going to work, or we can be brainstorm on ideas that actually will work. I think that we have two paths that we can take here. We can focus on getting big companies to back us, and accept feathercoin as payment for their goods that they can then transfer into whatever currency they choose. This is a great option but it really doesnt touch on the community aspect of feathercoin at all.
The other option that i see is for us to create original content that will only be traded for feathercoin, not dollars or feather coin, strictly feathercoin (it would also be nice if the feathercoins acquired from these transactions were kept in the feathercoin market as well). If we produce the right kind of content then people will be lining up to transfer their existing currency into ours. One of the first things that i saw for sale here comes to mind, and that was a bottle of wine. Now I know that everyone here doesn’t have access to a vineyard, but maybe you like to make clothes or you know someone who does, or maybe you have a friend who’s just perfected his homebrew, earlier today i saw a thread from someone who was super stoked about selling his first track for feathercoins.
So its really not anything specific that i want, its really just more original stuff that i can only get for feathercoins

Why feathercoin?
So far I like feathercoin. I love the security aspect of it, and I also think that adding a small degree of centralization will make it more appealing to people and governments. I also like a lot of the upcoming ideas that are emerging here. The filesharing protocol seems to be the most interesting thing I’ve read so far.
One of the things that led me here was the video on the FTC website. It led me to believe that there was a competent marketing team, and also a decent marketplace. So far I see none of that. The marketing team is something that will come with time, but as early adopters we really should be at the forefront of ensuring quality goods are being traded for FTC. One of the biggest criticisms of crypto-currencies in general is the fact that you can’t buy very much with them. If we beef up our marketplace with goods that people actually want to buy at reasonable prices than people will be begging to dump money into our economy.
