I have both, so far I had 2 Gigabyte burned.
Sapphire (Toxic) still run fine.
It seems there is a design issue with Gigabyte 280x card (same as 7970). Voltage regulators are burning. Each time the same one at the same place (and I am not the obnly one to get this).
I was a Gigabyte addict. Now I prefer Sapphire.

I have double checked, because I have several rigs : one with 7970s and one with 280x toxic.
I run the same command line on both.
Yes I use -g 2 with success.
For information, I use cgminer 3.3.1 and the latest catalyst drivers.
My rigs are in a basement. I don’t care about noise, but I want to reduce temp as low as possible to minimize the wear out.
I use the same settings as for my 7970 gigabyte and I get a 750kh :
cgminer.exe --scrypt --worksize 256 -v 1 -g 2 -I 13,13,13,13 --gpu-engine 1075 --gpu-memclock 1500 --shaders 2048 --thread-concurrency 8192 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-fan 100 --no-submit-stale

I have exactly the same problem with the same motherboard.
I run 2 280x toxic.
Most of the time they both run at 750kh, but after a time the hashrate of one card fall to 350kh (temp 70° max, so not too high).
I use 8Gb of RAM and a Athlon X2 270. I wonder if the CPU is not a bit too weak.
Even after a reboot the hashrate does come back to the max value.
It seems that if I unplug the card for a while and plug it back, the hashrate comeback to the max value.

I would advice you, first to check if you still have enough power to add a new rig.
It seems you are running 4 rigs.
With a standard installation, you are close to the limit.
Ensure you can use at least 1.5kW more before investing.

I am running a mining rig with 4 Gigabyte R797TO-3GD with a small overclock (1050 gpu and 1450 mem).
I use a Enermax Maxrevo EMR1500EGT 88 plus to power my rig.
I have burned :
The cable I have replaced were supplying the same card. I think the card may pump too much power on that cable.
May be my riser is defective.
May be I ask too much to the PSU. ???
What do you think about it?
What can I do to secure my rig and ensure it will work and won’t burn?

Drivers are not decisive, they make a small difference only. I use 13.9 with success.
Use this settings to get 410 kh per card : -I 19 --thread-concurrency 15232 -g 1 --shaders 1280 --gpu-engine 942 --gpu-memclock 1450

with this I have 750kH per 7970, but only 350kH per 7870 :'( .
I know I can get close to 450kH per 7870 with intensity at 19.
It works well if I unplug the 7970.
My problem is that when I try to mix card and intensity I have got a lot of refused proof of work on 7870 and hashrate is reduced to 600kH on 7970.
I am thinking to replace my 7870 by a 7970, but before that, I would like to know if you have any idea to fix this.
