I’ve been looking at the price on BTC-e recently and coming away feeling a little glum. But then I came across a manifesto I wrote a few years back for a ‘not for profit’ record label I run. ‘Past me’ has reminded ‘Present Me’ that ‘price’ and ‘value’ are not the same. I’m sure progressing the value to people of the currency can only help the resulting price, but if it didn’t, the value to people as a service isn’t diminished if it’s useful and utilised. Although It doesn’t perfectly fit the world of CC, I’ve coped my quote in below, for your amusement haha.
…believe in free music. We don’t believe that free music is without value. We believe that cost and worth are two different things. To sell our music limits the audience we can reach. To restrict how many people own our music is to increase its value artificially. The value of our music is in its content and not in its price tag. It may not suit the record industry but people, particularly DJ’s, like sharing music, it is in our nature and we encourage it rather than demonise it.
Sorry haha ::)
