RE: Cgminer won't run on Windows 8.1
I re-installed Win 8.1 from scratch and it works…very odd…
1 thing I learned from this:
after installing Win 8.1 and running all the updates apparently this is enough to have the appropriate drivers for the GPUs, no need to download and install AMD Catalyst.
so someone says in other forums and seems correct…maybe installing AMD Catalyst cons=fused things? …mmm…anyway thanks for hte help…

RE: Cgminer won't run on Windows 8.1
sorry for the delay,been busy…
so: I was under the impression that cgminer should run even without a .bat file, as you could insert url of pool etc once cgminer starts, anyway…
now I created a bat file like this but still doesn’t run.
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.wemineftc.com:4444 -u krasticrypto.1 -p xxx -i 13 -g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 8192svennand: I’m probably doing something wrong but I would like to do the test you recommend, helpme please I’m not that good with cmd and stuff…:
I press Start+R to open the cmd line, I type in cgminer --benchmark and error message says it can’t find the archive of cgminer… where should cgminer be for this work? in Windows/programs 86x?

RE: Cgminer won't run on Windows 8.1
yes it opens but only shows that cgminer line and nothing else, it closes again right away…
there is no antivirus and my account is admin…
I’ll check out that sgminer now, haven’t heard about it before… -
Cgminer won't run on Windows 8.1
I freshly installed 8.1 and cgminer won’t work…any clue? it opens but then closes straight away.
I tried these:
disable Windows Firewall
put the whole cgminer folder on Programs 86x
run cgminer as administrator…
but no luck!!!

RE: Gentlemen, I introduce to you: the HANGING RIG !
totally agree the R290 is a nightmare.I wish I bought all 280x with 2 or 3 fans…

Gentlemen, I introduce to you: the HANGING RIG !
So…let’s suppose you live in a very expensive city…there is no space for even an extra flower pot on the floor as a matter of fact!
and suppose you have a cat which you kind of like (we miners don’t do that pet stuff… 8) ) and you don’t fancy having trapped in a hot spinning GPU fan…
and a child whom you kind of like (we geeks don’t do that kid love stuff… 8) ) whom you don’t fancy going round pulling cables for fun and being elettroCUTEd…
the answer is…THE HANGING RIG!
throw the shoes out of the house and take ownership of the shoe cabinet just like a real MAN would ! :o1st:replace the door with a fabric curtain (IKEA) for extra ventilation. I put some sticky velcro so it closes nicely but it can be removed at any time easily…
Admittedly there is no much space for the monitor but once the rig is nicely set-up I’ll just access it remotely anyway…
remove the shelves which just block air flow and replace with beams; invest 2.50 £ in a wooden beam from DIY shop, get it cut in small parts (B&Q does it for free) and invest the absurd sum of 1.49 £ on 50 plastic ties which you are going to insert in the screw holes of motherboard and GPUs…
Being hte cabinet not very deep, just 30cm, I had to use the height of it, so the 2 PSU go on top of the wooden beams.
Having the motherboard in a central position it makes everything easier to access and at short distance. At the moment I put 1 GPU on the motherboard but strapped plastic ties around to hold on the weight. This will probbaly go onto a raiser as soon as I get it delivered. For the same reason more GPU will come soon. At least4, but may be putting up 6. Also I tried the Arctic USB Fans, you can see them in the pic, horizontally placed they help the flow of hot air going away from the GPUs.

It’s all a bit messy still but I may find the way to hide wires away once it’s all finalized.
and hte beauty is: I still have enough space for an additional whole rig.I’m considering buying a big fan or aircon system from Argos, there are some like this
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4252452.htm#pdpFullProductInformation
which are narrow and would fit, what do you guys think? Will an aircon make the air too humid? waste too much energy? I must keep the noise down or my misses will show me who the real boss of the house is and send the rig the same way of the shoes…out the door! :-X

RE: Caravan Rig
AWESOME!
man you are going big!
I have a simple question: why nobody installs a system of air conditioning? is it because it makes the air too humid? -
RE: How to set-up the .conf for multiple cards ?
is it that simple? jeee…now I understand.
and first number is for card in PCI-E slot 0, 2nd number for PCI-E slot 1 etc ?

How to set-up the .conf for multiple cards ?
apologies if this is explained in other posts, feel free to point mt in the right direction. (I also googled it but without much luck)
very simply:
I’ll soon add more cards to the rig.
the .conf file I have now for my R290 is ok.
How will I set-up the .conf for multiple cards when these will be different models with different performance and requirements?
thanks a bunch!
