@wrapper Good. Heat does not have to be seen as a loss in mining. We just need to be able to utilise it better.
@all Do you think it would be possible to fork feathercoin to Proof-of-Space? Would that be something the community would be interested in? Also, how realistic is this tech from being realised and will we see large mining farms pop up full of hard drives and CPUs?
@wrapper , Interesting read. Energy costs are holding crypto back as well as adding to the environmental issue. If we were to incorporate this hard drive method into a pre-existing coin it could massively improve hashing power and it would soon saturate the market to the point, everyone had one. I mean, if I could retro-fit this technology and it increased my hashpower by x4, I would still use all 4 of my GPUs instead of shutting 3 down and getting the same hashpower from one GPU for ¼ of the cost.
But for a new coin or in the form of a fork of an existing coin, cool!
That is, if I have understood it correctly. The reality with such an algorithm would be, you only need a good CPU and a HHD and not a high powered GPU. This may open crypto currency to more users rather than just appealing to gamers, fringe scientists, and computer geeks.
Maybe if we were to cover our GPUs, CPUs and HHDs in Peltier plates and use them as thermoelectric generators for powering cooling fans. The fans could blow air over the cold side of the Peltier plates to help increase the heat differential across the plates. This in conjunction with other heat recovery systems may be the way forward.
I was thinking of making a water heater or coffee machine and power it with a Bitmain AntMiner C1 (water cooled) but my eyesight is not what it was and I have limited funds and care commitments.
Anyhow, maybe in the future our appliances such as washing machines will earn us coin as we wash. That said, I don’t run my tumble dryer since I became a miner. I just put the clotheshorse around my rig to dry our clothes instead. :smile:

It should have failed back again when http://p2pool.neoscrypt.de:19327/static/ came good.
Maybe the software takes the better pool for my settings. p2pool.neoscrypt.de is still my prioraty pool.

So i turned up Mem clock to 1300 and turned down Core clock to 970.
Mem Clock shows correct values in GPU-Z but Core clock (gpu-engine) still reads 1000Mhz although set at 970Mhz, not sure why.

I get the same results with no settings, when i reduce values, hashpower goes down.
But now that i am hashing, why do i get 50%+ stale hashrate?

The command window opend on each time and i saw some writing but it went blue screen with white vertical stripes before i could read anything. Had to reboot to get rid of the stripes

yes for sure. Once a basic bat file has been made and exicuted and… you have created a conf file by hitting [S]ettings then [W]rite while running, you no longer need the bat file. You can get rid of it.
You can then just run the nsgminer.exe to start mining and arguments will be read from the conf. This way i get to see all the defaults and make changes as needed.
Tommorrow i will edit the “nsgminer.conf” file with the GPU core 1000MHz and GPU memory 1500MHz arguments and post results.

I then ran the bat file and then once running hit [S]ettings then [W]rite to make a config file.

is the un-edited conf. I just changed fan speeds to make all cards run at the same temp (cards in the middle of the rack run hotter than the outside ones)
The --gpu-vddc value is what is set as default.

AMD Catalyst 15.12 drivers are the best for mining eth, Later drivers yeald lower hasrates. I will try a driver update tommorrow while nursing my hangover. :smirk:
These are hard faults to find. It will hash away all night on feathercoin and then just stop and display “wait”. It has mined 127 ftc over the last two days but it’s no good to me if i have to reset it every few hours.
As i say, i used to have an Antminer U3 like this. It would work for days and then just go “ZOMBIE”. I guess “WAIT” in NSGminer is the same as “ZOMBIE” cgminer!
