@taurus Should the Feathercoin development team re-balance the mining algorithm to once again make it possible to mine on regular computers again?

RE: FTC News
If someone would send me the “News” I would be willing to maintain it on Busy.org
-
Modification to the forum
Two suggestions.
-
Modify forum to send email notifications of events that you follow
-
Add a SMT to the website to generate STEEMesque currency
The first point would also serve as a reminder for people to return to the Forum. Life tends to intrude and instead of checking on a daily basis I was last on a week ago … but had 6 notifications do look at.
The second point is that on STEEM I get paid 4 cents every time I post (if not more). Hmmm post there or post here. Incorporating a SMT (https://smt.steem.io/smt-whitepaper.pdf) would allow people to get paid for their posts on this forum.

RE: Can we please get more traction on Reddit, too?
Another site which needs to be promoted to the Feathercoin community is steemit.com or busy.org. Both of these sites link to the STEEM blockchain so if you post on one it also appears on the other. This is particularly useful as it generates Steem dollars which in turn can be exchanged for other currency. One aspect of this would be as a way to generate additional income that could be used to improve the Feathercoin blockchain (used for additional development etc.). Another positive is that holdings of alternative coins could be used for price stabilization of Feathercoin.

RE: FTC development vision
I have a couple of suggestions for things that FTC could be used for. I feel that its role as a “currency” should be not discounted but perhaps downplayed. I feel that a this coins utility is to go beyond the concept of transfer of value and look at alternative usages.
Two areas that haven’t been explored yet are to have a cryptocurrency to be used as a means to authenticate logins. If a website has a specific wallet associated with a user, the person can “pay” to be authenticated. The website can charge a very low price and can use these funds to replenish the users or to use it as a fund raising option. I am afraid that the speed the blockchain would need to be increased to seconds instead of minutes.
Another area of possibility is to consider using the FTC blockchain to track products. One of the companies that my company deals has been in manufacturing for over 100 years. Some of those products manufactured 100 years ago still are being used today. They have boxes of microfiche of the schematics etc in case a part needs to be re-manufactured. Provenance.org has the catch phrase: 8 out of 10 UK shoppers want to know where their food comes from. Provenance makes it easy for your business to bring trustworthy information to the point of sale, helping you build brand trust now and into the future.
My suggestion is that the Feathercoin could be used to store manufacturing data and be used to follow products along its supply chain. Imagine a widget has a QR code glued on at the manufacturer. It would include all the information (specs, warranty etc.) associated with that product. When that product is sent to the wholesalers, distributors and retailers and finally the customer the blockchain would be updated. Finally if a person bought this used Widget they would have the complete public record to follow. If this was a car … it could also include any repairs, accidents etc. Carfax on a QR. -
Second Newbie posting...
Fixing the forum. While I appreciate the necessity of having people post on the Newbie forum to prevent spamming, I have found that it is disconcerting that I need to post twice (as recommended by someone in the shoutbox). I suspect that reason is to prevent spammers.
However there are a couple of alternatives that I would suggest as a solution. The first would required setting up an arrangement with the programmers at satoshipay.io. My solution would be a pay to play option. The people at satoshipay have come up with a mechanism that allows people to buy satoshis from Paypal or by transferring them from a couple of different places (eg. coinbase). You can then use the Satoshi Sun as a way of having a paywall to pay for revealing content. If nothing else it is a quick way to buy $50 worth of Bitcoin. My suggestion would be to have a feathercoinpay (or what is the name of the least unit of feathercoin) with the same functionality but would be necessary to pay to post. The price could be ridiculously low but it would really annoy spammers. The proceeds could also be used to fund raise. A mechanism could be made to repay the posting values to everyone who isn’t marked as a spammer at the end of a month.
My other suggestion is to connect the forum to the STEEM blockchain and to give an opportunity for this community to earn $$ while making good posts.

Thanks acidD I will review the projects section and post there. -
RE: Making Feathercoin Used More
As a moderator can you point this in the direction of the powers that be? Could a post be made on Steemit which we could direct members of the Feathercoin community to upvote? For instance my voting power right now is worth about 4 cents. A series of posts and upvotes from the “Feathercoin” community could generate enough income to pay for revisions to the code.

RE: Making Feathercoin Used More
@acidd
I am more than willing to help. A number of years ago I attempted to interest a group of retailers in Ukraine to use Feathercoin as a payment processing system. I set up in a cafe and bought coffees for anyone interested (in free coffee) to demonstrate the ease and speed of transactions. Of course I bought the Feathercoin back from the cafe at the end of the day. This was when 1 FTC was nominally around $1.00 USD.One question is if Feathercoin adjusted its function to be used for more than it is currently used for, would there be push back from existing users? Should a survey be run quantifying how it is used.
Let us say that Feathercoin could be used for authentication. In the website database an association was created that linked a user to a wallet. When a user went to log in, they would “pay” to enter. If the payment came from the correct wallet, they would be allowed entry. This would require the speed of the block target to be very fast. The website would collect the fees and redistribute it back to its users or collect it for their own purposes. Perhaps a partnership with Satoshipay (https://satoshipay.io/) could allow users to fund a browser base wallet.

Making Feathercoin Used More
As many people are aware Ethereum is used to create smart contracts. It is one of those advances that could displace BTC as a preferred coin of choice for buying things. For instance Amazon could create its own Eth based coin which would provide a built in escrow account. I would buy something from Amazon and pay in a coin that would be held in escrow. They ship the product and it arrives on my doorstep. If I approve the product the money goes to Amazon, if I don’t the money comes back to me and the product is returned to Amazon. The biggest pro for Amazon would be the 1 or 2 percent credit card fee. The pro for the consumer would be not exposing themselves to having their personal or credit card information hacked (boycott Equifax).
For the past 3 months I have been participating in the STEEM community and have found that it has an interesting utility: rewarding participants for posting content and voting for content while having a 3 second posting speed. Consider the possibilities - this competes directly with Facebook, could be used by forums like this Feathercoin and would reward the participants with $$ and could change the way online news media work. It has a unique way of protecting wallets having time delays.
I suggest that Feathercoin needs to get beyond the idea of merely a transfer of value. Historically I believe that it was used as a form of Universal Basic Income (UBI) in a town in UK. What ever happened to that project? I have a few ideas which it could be used for: an authentication method for logging into websites, tracking manufactured products (eg https://www.provenance.org/)
Regardless of the idea, I believe that Feathercoin needs to expand beyond its current concept to reach new horizons.

RE: Marketing/Community expansion?
-
Create a mechanism similar to Satoshipay. This allows developers to put content on their page behind a feathercoin paywall.
-
Create an API which web designers could incorporate into their pages which would act as a mining tool. The tool should be created in such a way that the miner would reward the visitor - perhaps populating the wallet of the first option. This could be marketed as a customer loyalty program.
