You seem to use an USB connection from the motherboard to the GPU.
I’ve never seen that.
How does that work and what parts are needed to build that setup? It isn’t USB. It’s PCIe x1 over a cable which looks like USB.
Something like ASRock BTC Pro Kit, but more advanced.

you can find them on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-E-1x-to-16x-0-6M-USB-3-0-Powered-Extender-Riser-Card-Adapter-w-Molex-Bitcoin-/281279202978?hash=item417d8c06a2:g:p6EAAOxyGwNTFnY9

I can confirm that these are in fact USB cables, however, instead of using a ribbon cable the pcie 1x signal is sent via the wires in the USB cable… so pretty much re-purposing analog equipment for another digital purpose. There is a pcie 1x adapter I plug the USB cables directly into and I also use a 90 degree USB elbow to get under the 2nd PSU. I am guessing this could be done via an cat 5/6 cable?

Came home and it was over 90f in the basement and mid 70s around the house… is this February?

Looks more like a proof that global warming is ongoing.
I assume the outside temperature is not very low at the moment, right? -

Same weather here. My yard and driveway (gravel) is a muddy mess!

Good FTC prices today, looks like I got paid to keep my house warm 3 winters in a row. Thanks guys!

As the seasons change stay tuned for part 2 - Ahh Im melting in here! -2016 Gpu summer miner efficiency tuning

So after doing so looking around trying to figure out what to do, here is my plan for the spring for the farm.
-
Build another rig, I ordered a CPU/MOBO/Ram combo from a friend on the forums and have several GPUs sitting
-
Bake in the oven and try to resurrect 2 dead 7970s
-
Get a copy of ethOS and mod it to include nsgminer for easy mining of both FTC and ETH
-
Spend a bunch of time re-flashing GPUs to get them all stable and maxed out for efficiency
-
Install 1 or 2 8-12 inch duct exhaust fans in the basement to suck hot air outside
-
Get an electrician friend over for an evening to increase my available circuits to mine with
-
If I move to linux mining, rebuild 5 or 6 GPUs per rig

Mother nature is drunk and cant figure out what the weather should be. Went from nearly 70f on Friday to 27f and snowing today.
Cooling will be an issue once temps maintain themselves above 50f. On Friday I came home to 87f upstairs and in the 90s in my basement. Opened up a bunch of windows to vent and got it back into the 70s. Then woke up to open windows and it was snowing outside LOL

Lots of work to come, I have a rackmount AC unit on its way along with a bunch of Edimax smart plugs. The current plan is to build or buy an rack locally and then vent the hot side outside via a 6 inch duct.
I might just build a rack from wood and ignore rails and ears… we will see.

I have been lazy about my uploads, have pics on my phone from the last 2 months or so, ill put them up soon.

Smart Switches FTW, reset one rig twice already while away from home

Still too lazy… maybe sometime soon for pix.
Txt update:
Holy crap its hot in the house, temps upstairs are in the 90s and I need to do something about it. Been looking at getting 2x 1800 CFM carpet dryers with 4 inch duct adapters. The plan would be to have the first one on a smart switch and the 2nd on a temperature controlled switch.I undervolted and underclocked a everything I could after I set a personal best for power bill last month… Managed to drop about 15% total power usage and lost 3% in hash rate. I already had done work with my older rigs and so there wasn’t much to do with them.
After a month of use of my Edimax smart plugs I am really impressed. I enjoy seeing power usage in real time and not having to plug in a kill-a-watt when I want to see a server’s draw. I probably averaged more than 1 reset a day, mostly due to one or two rigs remaining unstable for a day while undervolting/clocking. The plugs will pay for themselves in 2016! I only failed twice in a month at resetting a rig as you have a small window to power down and power back on for the motherboard to reboot rather than shutting down. The trick I found with the smartphone app was to make sure you are getting realtime power usage data before attpemting a reset, that way you know you have a good connection to the switch!
For those of you that remember my boxer from The White Mountain Mining Consortium pix a while back. He passed away suddenly 4/22 and is missed very much so.

It has been about a month since this guy left us for good. Looking through photos on my phone is still really hard to do.
I have some photos that I will be uploading every couple of days so keep your eyes peeled.
I decided to bake a few of my older GPUs to see if I could get any more hashrate from them. I tried a sapphire and a MSI 7970, sadly I didnt get either of them to come back from the dead!
