Open Air Exchange - FTC Meetup

Wow this is an awesome idea! If I lived anywhere near london id show up.
-
I think for now Skype would be a great idea, that way our friends from across the pond could join in :) IRC sounds good ChrisJ

I am organising one, it’s been decided lol. We can host them simultaneously and do a live webcast with big screens :)
I am thinking of branding it as Bitcoin/Crypto or Bitcoin/Feathercoin/Litecoin meetup so that it attracts more people. This should be about promoting the idea itself and I notice I got a bit of interest from the Trollbox last night when I put the idea forward.

I’m glad this is being brought up! I started a meetup project when I first got over here… it didn’t gain traction so it became a back-burner item. I would host one here in the US-Midwest.
I’m game.

I would help if anyone interested in upstate NY area lets get something together

Guys, I think Google Hangouts in Google+ is designed to handle a lot more people than skype is.

I think this is a pretty awesome idea. Why wait for BTC-e to set up a FTC/USD when you can just take things into your own hands. Power to the people!
I have since found out it’s called open outcry but apparently it’s not that easy to do because you just get a lot of noise and if you want to be a market maker you are taking a big risk and still have to deal with all the settlement.
Could you curtail the noise/confusion by having multiple people working for the exchange? If it’s one or two people trying to run it then I see how it would get unmanageable very quickly (assuming there’s enough interest in the first place). If there’s 5 or 6 exchange workers and you set up some formalized system for placing orders then maybe it would be more under control? Also, distributing the market-making responsibility among a group of people might help ease the burden.

Any tentative dates sorted? I’m keen whilst over from Australia and in the UK.
