[Solved] How to Update a Wallet - Tips and guides, backups
-
The more I read up on downloading new wallet for windows the more I am confused. Copy wallet, delete old wallet, upload, download, run, save, , addnode, copy keys, data files, beta, which ones, blah, blah, blah.
That’s like me, telling you “techies†to jump out of a plane and work out your parachute on the way down, or pick up that snake and put it round your neck, not knowing if it is poisonous, semi-poisonous or a harmless grass snake.
This is the one thing, I bloody hate about crypto, bloody wallets-updates. I can’t be assed with all this now; I am tired and have a headache so am off to f**@&*^ bed.
Sorry everyone about throwing my teddy out of the pram but what I need is an idiot’s guide to windows, wallet update.
I will give the best idiots guide that I choose to use; 20 FTC for your time for posting it, but if I loose my coins in the process tough shit you get nothing.

There has been a post about this:

This should be a much easier process than what you have been describing you are doing. I am new to this myself, and I created this user largely to post this reply directing you to another post. I’d be happy to take a small fee of 5 FTC for someone else’s work though. :-P Hopefully this post saves you 20 FTC ,unless you want to throw 5 FTC my way for saving you some coinage, that is. ^_^
Just make sure to back up your wallet, just in case something goes wrong.

[/quote]First of all those are multiple concerns. You are confusing different situations for one situation.
If you are installing a new version, you always back up your wallet. Obviously, after backing up your wallet, you make sure the back up is in new clean folder where the software stores its info. This could be done better by asking you if you would like to load a wallet.
If you have data corruption or if you send from an old version and you upgrade before the transaction confirms several times, then you are going to deal with keys and importing and all the rest.
Otherwise, you have nothing that you must do other than backing up your wallet and never sending right before upgrades.

Thank you BikerGSX
You got the ball rolling. Hopefully for yourself, and now for me. Ha
And a big thank you and a handshake for you Uncle_Muddy. 1+ Rep
I have not upgraded yet, need a new stick. (maybe today)
If I cannot follow that guide, then it is hopeless for me. lol
I think I could have done it anyway, but I value greatly my little feathers.
It would break my heart to lose needlessly any of them. Yikes
Oh, I already have a USB backup but I want two or three at least. Oh yes.
Thank you again. I/we would be hopelessly handicapped without the community.

Well the four days are up and the winner is: uncle_muddy.
I am sure everyone would agree and anyway the judge’s decision is final. He stuck to the brief and did an excellent tutorial that any caveman could follow. It was all done in 15 minutes and after I had finished I wondered what all the fuss was about, even if that was mostly me fussing. Working with the guide did give me some peace of mind and kept my heart beat down.
As a true Featherman he didn’t expect payment, but I am a man of my word and have sent him 20FTC towards a well-earned beer. Anyway I had to test the new wallet out and he was a perfect contender. To me that was coins well spent.
I’m pleased that the tutorial has already helped out other members and fkimbe you are welcome. I know other new members will find it helpful, unless I’m the only caveman on this forum.
Cheers uncle_muddy.PS: Thank-you to zerodrama who’s replies always lives up to his name: calm and straight to the point.
