Anybody having riser problems?
-
I recently purchased 6 - 1x to 16x risers, 2 - 4x to 16x, and 2 - 8x to 16x from several different sources. Out of all those risers I could only get one 8x to 16x riser to work. Could I have gotten that many bad ones? I even went back and tried the “Bad ones” on a good configuration and still got nothing. I just find it hard to believe I could have gotten that many bad ones! Any ideas anyone?
And the 1x to 16x riser, I also tried in the 1x as well as the 16x slot and still nothing. Right now I have the 8x working in my 3rd 16x slot. I want them all on riser because the cards run so much cooler with risers versus being stuck in the board. This 8x riser works in all three of my 16x slots. I can’t get squat out of the others at all with any configuration.

Really might just be crappy risers. If you have a voltage meter you could try to see if all pins are having the same resistance (ohms) which would indicate they all are correctly pined out. also depends on how they were packaged. The risers are rather touchy at the cable connections.

Test the motherboard also by plugging in the cards directly, and if you have another motherboard lying around test the cards on that also, by I’d say Christian is right.

The motherboard is brand new and it’s fine. It works great with one of the 8x to 16x risers. Probably just bad risers that’s all I can figure.

I had to turn off eSATA on my mobo to make it possible to run 3 5970s.
