Legit idea or actual joke
-
Alright. I was joking around today on btc-e trollbox with tuck and the idea of a crypto collectable card game came up. As a joke of course. but then I got to thinking. it could be done in html5 and be kind of fun. Eventually, could pit people against each other.
Is this really stupid idea?

I wrote a whitepaper on this subject about a year ago. The company I was working for was creating their own, and asked me if it was a good idea. This was my reply. Let me find the link for you…

Here’s the abstract:
Online Collectible Card Games (OCCG) is a genre of games that allow the players to collect cards, combine them into decks, and play the decks against opponents through the Internet. Players get engaged in all three levels of the game, and we relate these levels to the theories of what makes a computer game fun to play. The purpose of this document is to understand the business goals of a Collectable Card Game and maximize our opportunities for revenue by focusing in on what aspects of a OCCG are most fun and profitable. -

[/quote]Good read. Thanks. The gist I got was pay real attention to all three levels otherwise you’re wasting time, aka don’t half-ass. If I did it would purely be an academic exercise for myself. One to get better at html5 and two to have a reason to create a game.

That’s more or less the jist of it, but I hope the arguments for doing so were relevant and topical.
Each type of player is served differently by the game, and the meta-games within it like collecting and trading. Rarity is good, even when it’s artificially created. The 10-90 rule applies here, where 10 percent of your user base will make you 90 of your profits, but the entire community, specifically the remaining 90 percent, needs to be there for the 10 percent to have a reason to exist. Freeimum models work well here, because they provide the initial fix and spark the investor mentality.
Let me into the beta when it’s ready?
