Whats the purpose of encrypting the wallet?
-
I know the most important thing is the wallet.dat file, and placing it on a USB or online is important, but why would you encrypt it via the wallet program? i.e.
If someone happened to find my encrypted wallet.dat file, don’t they have access to all my coins then?
thanks

After you’ve encrypted your wallet you need to enter the password you used for encrypting the wallet every time you send coins. So it’s extra secure.

If you encrypt your wallet, everytime you want to send some coins, or add a new address you need to enter the encryption password. I could upload my encrypted wallet.dat, everyone could download it, could see my coins but they couldnt do anything with it, cause the dont have the password. Its a protection.

COOL, thanks for that, I didn’t know that, I hope I still remember the password. Can I test that myself, i.e. send like 0.01 of a coin to myself?

Just add a new address, its going to ask you for your pw then.
