Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to the whole mining game, and recently have been seriously considering putting time and effort (and money!) into mining a cryptocurrency. I briefly did a CPU LTC mine a few months back just to try it out, and now I’m wanting to get back into it. My GPU has been broken for a few months now, and am currently waiting on it to be sent back to me fixed up… but I have a question.
I know ASICs have been developed for BTC and have essentially rendered GPU/CPU mining useless due to superior MHash/s/$ and MHash/J capabilities. My question is: are ASIC-like devices going to be released for coins other than BTC? I know there are talks of releasing LTC ASICs in the near future (hence why I have veered away from mining them now), but could these also be used, for example, for FTC?
I’m not very familiar with the actual process of mining itself, so at this point I don’t really understand why the current BTC ASICs can’t just be used to mine other coins instead, so if any of you could help me out there that would be cool ;D
