Novice building a Mining Rig

Thanks
Recommended is 500w.
http://uk.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD-rev-10#kfhttp://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1070-g1-gaming-review,8.html - says it requires 450w each card.
http://cryptomining-blog.com/tag/gtx-1070-power-consumption/
So I guess I require 2 for 2 cards.
-
You should flash your cards that they need less power with nearly the same kh/s. So you should be able to power 3 cards with 1200 Gold
-
Is the noise a issue for you ? :)
If not you can have look in server PSU, you can find on ebay very cheap PSU with good power 1000W, and depending on the brand Gold or superior rate.
Be aware those are loudy.
Otherwhise no choice than EVGA 1600W that can handle quite a load of GPU, for a relative silent PSU.
-
Noise is not a major concern but “loudy” got me little afraid. lol
evga 1600 it is thanks
-
Thanks for the tip, looked at few videos on youtube, didn’t knew this was possible.

Which is best graphics card option for mining feathercoin?
option 1:
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1070 Windforce OC GeForce GTX1070 Internal Graphic Card 8192 MBI cant find the mining speed for neoscrypt but for ethreium it is 30.5Mh/s on ETH
Option 2 : Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB GDDR5 128 bit Graphics Card
2 X cards gives 24MH for ethreum
option 1 being twice the price and neoscrpt (FTC) being relatively easy, is option 2 better?

http://www.miningspeed.com/list/index.php?brand=both
Which one should I go for? or something else? only concentrating on feathercoin
Thanks
-
I think for that a @ghostlander is needed. :=)
-
Im not sure what the ‘best’ card is. we should probably collect some data on this since we are getting some new members more recently with the possibility of access to new/different hardware. To my knowledge, most of the miners here all run AMD and most are on older hardware still.
-
Thanks
but out of the two cards, which one you think would be better suitable for mining feathercoin?
I get it it’s difficult to tell but 8gb -4gb, £150-£350
Which one I should go for? Thanks
-
@vigospqr The amount of RAM wont make a difference. Id assume the 1070 will hash faster than the 1050 however its also much more expensive. The 1070 seems to be one of the more popular cards out there so it may be a good option as you can see stats on how it performs on other coins as well.
-
@amdd Thanks
-
Agree with @AmDD. Get 1070 if you can afford it, or at least 1060 (6GB version).
ccminer uses less 1GB, so theoretically, you could build a rig using super-cheap 2GB 1050 TI’s, but you’ll need 3-4 of them to match 1070 hash rate, so price-wise it will be the same. 2GB 1050 TI’s are cheap now because you can’t mine Ether with them.
-
@taurus cool 1070 it is. Thanks
-
I have spare MB+CPU+RAM for beginner miners - Gigabyte B73-D3V with 2 full PCIe slots and 3 small, i5 3350P and 8GB DDR3, if smth.
-
@lordas Interested Pmed you.
-
I’m getting about 700KH/s on a 1070 with NSGminer now. It’s likely to go higher in the future if I get enough time to work on an NVIDIA only kernel.
-
I get 860~ with my 1070 on CCminer
-
An Update:
Well i went back and forth, whether to do this or not. Financially i think its border line, costs are probably the same to mine, you are speculating on the price what will be few years down the line, but then you can buy the feathercoins now at probably the lowest price its ever gonna be.
Does the mining help the community, initially it does i guess, but afterwards its just competition. Was excited at first but then it seemed sluggish. and wasn’t 100% sure if i will get it running.
But @Lordas came to the rescue, provided me with all the stuff i need, a community feeling arose, End up bying these two graphics cards:
- ASUS GTX 1070 8 GB White Graphics Card (DUAL-GTX1070-O8G)
Why: £380 i think its a good price, good company, good hash rate, and apparently its an overclocked edition, above all it looks fancy (lol).
2.Asus GTX 1050TI 4 GB
https://www.amazon.co.uk/NVIDIA-GeForce-EX-GTX1050TI-4G-Express-Graphics/dp/B01M6YD55M/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1507892754&sr=1-1&keywords=1050ti+4gb+asusWhy: £150, Value for money, still 4GB, Also wanted to compare what hash rate i get on this for FTC compared to the 1070, may help in future if i wanted to build a rig or may help other novices.
Lets see how it goes, Seems like fun, Excited Again…
For Other Novices: apart from the top list you also need a processor for your motherboard (i3 pentium £100)
-
@vigospqr Cool! let us know what speeds you get on each!
Good luck!
-
@Lordas Thanks, received the package, (nice packaging)
Aim at the moment is to test and see if it works and what mining is all about, so for 1 card, Before mining I guess I need to do the following:
- Get a bootable Windows 10 USB
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Windows-10-Pro-Professional-32-64-Bit-Genuine-License-Key-Bootable-USB-/172909321407?hash=item284232dcbf:g:LsoAAOSwEWJZ10Yg
£13
very amateur question(cant seem to find the answer though), but where are you installing windows to though? another USB, or onto the same USB?
£45
-
Attach a monitor, keyboard, mouse and graphics card
-
Download card drivers
-
Install NSGminer
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=712650.0
Is this all I need to do?
Probably I am being a pain but if you got some spare time, maybe you can ignore the top and write a simple step by step yourself (with links) explaining what needs doing from here to actual mining, creating wallet etc (the full package lol).
It may help others, will definitely help me though. otherwise no issues, I will figure it out.
Thanks
